  • Our desert road trip is coming to a close, but we still have more to explore before returning home. From blowing sand and colorful outdoor art to a video game-inspired ghost town, we continue our dive into the Mojave Desert.
    Onwards, we go! Today we travel deep into the Mojave National Preserve to explore some remains of old mining ghost towns but you probably already knew about that if you saw our video on it already. 😄
    After a long trek doing some offroad driving, we return to the pavement and winds whip up carrying loads of dust - just in time for our stop at Seven Magic Mountains! These colorful towers in the desert provide an interesting contrast to the starkness and miles of sand.
    Afterward, it was time to get our geek on. In Nevada sits the remains of a living ghost town called Goodsprings. This small little town has a past in the mining industry but players of the popular Fallout video game series might recognize some of the buildings from Fallout: New Vegas. Being in town was a tad bit surreal, to say the least.
    Finally, as we reach our home state of Arizona once again, we set out to find the last remnants of Joshua trees, in a place where the Mojave and the Sonoran Deserts collide.

    That is the fewest people I've ever seen at Seven Magic Mountains. Last time I was there I even saw an Uber driver looking for someone and a food truck setup. The Fallout stuff was pretty neat. I ran across a place in LA awhile back that I knew from LA Noire and was pretty excited about it.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Před 10 měsíci

      🤣 An Uber driver? Dang! That's kind of funny. Oooh. LA Noire is a great game too! It's absolutely so strange when you come across a real life location you previously only knew in a game, isn't it?

    I laughed when you brought out the Pip-Boy. Goodsprings is neat, bunch of Fallout memorabilia in the store and bar; aged Nuka Cola and Sunset Sarsaparilla bottles and stuff, they definitely enjoy the business from video game fans and offroaders. I've gone to the bar for breakfast and dinner. Solid burger and the cinnamon roll biscuit is good. I believe you can request eggs from chickens raised in town, so they're super fresh.

      We're both pretty big fans of the Fallout series so a visit to Goodsprings seemed like a must-do. We saw that they had a Fallout event last year... might have to make a trek out for the next one in November. 😅

    Absolutely Loved the Fallout New Vegas references while you were filming Goodsprings...Funny thing is that even though the bikers might have ruined your chance of filming the store and saloon, it's almost fitting that they were there. If You recall from the game, the " Powder Gangers" tried to take over
    Goodsprings. Those bikers ARE the Powder Gangers!

    It seems like I make the same comment to you again and again..........but I cannot tell you just how much I LOVE your vids! You do the very type of exploring/travelling that I used to do many years ago. I miss that kind of adventure so much it hurts, but you make it easier by taking me/us along with you!
    And I know I've said this before, as well, but.......the deserts of the Southwest are so very magical! Just loved your footage, especially in the "botanical garden-like" area, because you capture the beautiful colors better that way! Oh, I would give anything to experience the smell of the creosotes after a light rain! There just isn't a more beautiful aroma in the world, IMO. Except maybe night blooming jasmine!
    And I have **probably** also told you before, that personally, I actually LOVE the "from the cab" footage! Helps me sort of get to experience the fun of the drive. I know it can be exhausting, but DANG, it is so much fun, and so very uplifting and healing in these circumstances.
    Blah blah blah! I'll stop now. OH, except, gotta also shout out to whoever (your wife?) does the editing and choosing the music! That's some major talent behind the scenes there!!!
    👍👏

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Aww, thank you! 😊 Yup... It's me (Amy, Glenn's wife) who edits the videos. Glenn does here and there when he has a project he really wants to do, but for the most part he's filming and I'm editing. Appreciate the nice words and we're so super happy that we can bring you along on trips. 😄👍

      @MissAstorDancer Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@CactusAtlas - Hi, Amy! Do you also choose the music? I would think that would have to be the case, but then, I'm completely ignorant about making vids! In any case, the music choices are always so excellent, and accompany the footage beautifully! Thank you, BOTH for all your hard work!

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I do choose the music, yes. Basically Glenn comes home with the footage, I grab all the clips off the SD card, and then take over everything from there. Thank you again. It means so much to us. 😊

    The “mountains” were an installation by an artist that took 5 yrs. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m a “leave no trace” kind of girl.

      @CactusAtlas  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yeah, we definitely fall into that category too. Much like one of our last videos on Goldome Mill, art can be subjective but it really is a beautiful area on its own.

      @00Mandy00 Před 9 měsíci

      People do little spirals near “Spiral Jetty”. Holzer’s “City” is in Basin and Range NM, not that it’s really see-able. The ultimate “trace” in that sense. That artwork really affected by view of art. He also did “Double Negative” near Las Vegas.
