Chase, that's for showing people this fantastic alternative to the GoPro. I bought the 5000x Elite when I first started riding back in December and it has been wonderful, great way to get into the action cam world without the rediculous price or extra unneeded frills. Love the channel, keep up the good work.
I saw these on amazon for about $70 and immediately bought 2 of em... love the WiFi connectivity and can't complain about video quality

I have a Gopro and just for the fact there's no LCD screen nor a Dashcam mode, I'll take the SJCAM
At least I can use the camera 24/7 instead of sitting in the house and only being used once in awhile like the Gopro.

Probably you used your GoPro mic. How strange that sounds, the usb port seems to be sensitive for certain types of microphones.

If you take some sandpaper to the accessories on the articulating edges, they work very well.
I have a gopro but I have been interested in the Sj4000 as a backup camera - but this looks quite compelling!
The advantage the SJ has over other budget cams: The firmware gets actual updates. Quite frequently. Like... they now support up to 128 GB SD cards etc.
I have a regular SJ5000 that I picked up on Ebay (legit SJCAM, beware of knock-offs) for $80 new. The quality is pretty solid, but I would use it as a secondary cam that you don't need the audio from.
Personally, I recommend to check-out a GoPro alternative. The brand is called SJCAM and they make great cameras, sometimes costing 30% of the gopro. And the image quality is the same or even better.
Check out Sony HDR-AS200 or now the HDR-AS50. Cheap, loaded with features. The image stabilization is mind blowing!
Chase are you going to ever do a review on actual cameras too? Because the bokeh in the shots is really nice both you and Moto have some awesome camera equipment and i am just curious as to what it is. Awesome and professional review as always.

only card i had laying around was a 64gb sjcam 5000 records with it fine
If camera accessories wiggle around just grab some sand paper and sand down a little bit because there is a polished finish where screws are going, and you won't have problems with it :)
I currently use the Xiaomi Yi 1 with a few software mods to upgrade the bitrate etc. It's my favorite budget camera and since it's Sub $100 i don't have a problem drilling and soldering on an external microphone adapter. If i had a gopro there is no way i would risk it mainly because of its price. In my opinion it's the best camera for a budget motovlogging channel.
I am looking to upgrade to the Xiaomi Yi 2 that has just come out. LCD screen and considerably better. Definitely should check it out!

I bought the Xiaomi Yi for $60 and it is just as good as a GoPro Hero 3.
It has much better color balance than the sjcam. The lens rectification mode is really nice too. It is the best $60 I've spent in a long time.

+Guimatics I bought it directly from Xiaomi's china website ¥399 ($61) The only downside is the app does says the camera is only for use in mainland China, but you just click okay and it works just as normal.

I run the SJ4000 at the moment with external mic mod. Make sure you check out the Dazzne P3 though, that's going to be my next camera I think.
Used it once, won't recommend it, the color temp changes constantly, pretty frustrating. Plus, you can use external mic, with some mods, some of my mates have done that and the audio quality is.. err.. not the best, to say the least.

Chase you should totally do a First ride of the brand new 2017 SV650. suzuki brought it back and since you love the fz07, it would be the perfect comparison
I would recommend the Lightdow LD4000 @ $40 on Amazon for standard 1080p recording. Easily comparable to the Hero cmeras up to the Hero 3. Also have a wifi model for about $15 more.
You should test the ion line of action cameras. I use a ion air pro 2 to vlog with and the quality is outstanding. Also can be used with a external mic. just need a 3.5mm to 2.5mm jack adapter for the mic.
These cheap alternative action camera's are really picking up in quality and dropping in price. Awesome if you just need another camera angle but don't want to fork out for another GoPro name brand!

Awesome video. Must definitely say the video quality isn't too bad. However I do prefer the Firefly 6s over this one any day, esp when you're talking nearly 30 dollars cheaper too? Would be an awesome second or even third camera to install on the bike itself

I just bought a GoPro for $130 it was the first GoPro that they ever came out with why not just buy that one it works perfect and the quality is great.

Checkout the Xiaomi Yi cam. It's supposed to be rated as close to the GoPro.
You could look at the asx action pro-x. Pretty sure it's about $80 and it's a pretty good camera. Not sure how it compares to the GoPro though

It would still be pretty amazing if the Hero 4 was near the 500 mark here in brazil instead of the 2000 that its sold for.
The SJ5000 in comparison is pretty accessible here coming at 600.

Xiaomi Yi2 and Git2 both have the same chipset and stabilization, SJ5000+ have the same chipset (Ambarella A7LS75) than the gopro 3.
i use the sj4000 for vids, to add a mic to it, you have to open up the camera and actually solder one in... it was annoying, but i like it
I do not agree with this review. The video is amazing, the new firmware allow 64gb cards, the accesories do fit perfectly on go pro mounts, old review not updated review. For the price it is amazing.

Chase I bought the eken h9 I like it and you are correct on the mounts I have to get go pro mounts because mine broke
i have got xplore sports 1080p cam and it cost 60 euros and you get it all mounts.
if you buy gopro cost 500$ and you get just two mounts.
xplore sports cam is 4k and it has all the fuctions like gopro and is wifi remote with gopro app

You should check out the Xiaomi Yi it's a pretty good and very cheap alternative option.
update the firmware of sj5000x elite to 1.4.6 and then change the bitrate to high, its a huge inprovement in audio and video quality
not as good as the firefly you reviewed got one because of that review and love it

have you ever checked out of reviewed the Ion Air pro 2 or air pro 3, i use the air pro 2 and its pretty good, all settings are set from the app. no inter changeable battery sadly but will go a good couple of hours almost non stop on record. i think i got about an hour and 45 minutes of footage on the one charge non stop

Hi Chase...I was just about to ask you in the middle of the video about the comparison between firefly 6s and sj 5000 and there in the end you said it. I saw your firefly review long back and bought one recently from gearbest. I am very much happy with the buy but just one thing concerns me is that the lens heats up very much. Do you face same issue?
Monoprice has a "MHD Sport 2.0 Wi-Fi Action Camera" that was $60, says it has mic in, although it's not 4k. I was going to pick one up in the fall, wondered if you had used them yet.

Xiaoyi Yi is the best budget camera.
I just picked up the SJ8000. I actually found it at a pawn shop because I was looking for a deal on a used go pro... I found my SJ8000 BRAND NEW in the box for only $50 AND it came with every mount and extra imaginable.. I checked some videos online that compared the video quality of the SJ8000 vs go pro camera... and I use a 64gb card in mine. I just cannot justify paying what they want for a go pro when there are other options at a fraction of the price.
I think the reason I found it brand new in the box at the pawn shop was when I turned it on everything was in Chinese... I have to search around in the menu until I found a way to switch it to English... I think someone bought it online and then thought they could not change it to English so they just sold it at the pawn shop...lol!

Hey Chase, good video thanks. Have been looking for an option to chin mount, and wanted at least 1080p/60fps... Now, with the SD card... My current camera is a Sony AS20 and should only take a max of 32Gb SD card... but am using a 64Gb SD card with no issues. I want to try a 128Gb card to see if that will work for long distance rides... but can't just now.
Question: Do you have opportunity to put a larger SD card in the SJ5000 to test a larger card?

And WAY cheaper than the hero 4 black. Yeah no lcd screen, but as you said the hero 4 black doesn't have one anyway. ~$350 brand new ~$240 on ebay.
Try comparing against the Git2 Pro, $150 and I know the battery does 90 minutes.

Just to add to your review but on my first day with the sjcam the handle bar mount broke. I switched to the adhesive mount and on the 3rd day my camera is somewhere in the ditch

Why would you compare hero 4 with SJ5000x if you said in the begining of the video that the quality is not comparable?
Gopro has a variaty of model with different price tags, why not compare the SJ5000x with a GoPro Hero, which isn't so priceey and still performes better than both firefly and sj5000x ? :)
gitup git 2 weird name for a camera but it's really sweet. kicks the crap out of all these cameras. Maybe not the xiaomi yi 2, but it's got that camera on build quality, and resolution is really good.
second that it also has the best image stabilisation I've seen yet.
