  • Powerful, muscular and unmistakably Ducati, the 2021 Ducati Diavel 1260 is an imposing machine. Originally launched in 2011 after debuting at EICMA the previous year, this year's Diavel is the third generation of the performance cruiser.

    I have the 2021 and though in most reviews I recognize many of the shared critiques about the bike's handling and personality, the brake pedal position is one I do not. It could be due to rider physiology. I'm 1.83m (6'), with an average foot size and I have zero issue with pedal location. That particular item aside, I personally find most of the design or performance quirks that get negative feedback are the attributes that make a Ducati a Ducati. The 1260 Diavel in its current iteration is, in my opinion, an exceptionally well conceived machine. How many bikes can perform across the spectrum of cruiser, sport and tourer with such vigor. It's an absolute joy to ride - except in stop and go traffic.

      Great comment! That’s what makes bikes such a great topic to cover - one person’s quirk, is another’s deal breaker. The Diavel is mental and overall we’re better off for having it. It’s certainly completely different to almost anything else on the road. Thanks for watching, we hope you enjoyed the review!

    I was looking for something sporty after a decade of adventure bikes.
    I never considered the Diavel until I test rode one. It sold itself in about five minutes. Soon enough I had a red 1260S in my garage.
    It is a weird motorcycle and is all the more enjoyable for it. Defying classification is, for me, part of the appeal. What is it? It’s a freakin’ Diavel!
    Keep up the great videos. I enjoy Aussie content.

      Thanks, Tim. We really appreciate the support. The Diavel is a beast of a bike, and happy it’s found pride of place in your garage!

    Fit the Termi exhaust, gets rid of the 'butterfly effect' of the exhaust valve AND sounds freakin epic.

    New to the channel here. Very nice review. I have been dreaming about a Diavel for quite some time. Having a scrambler myself, mainly used to commute around town, I'm not a crazy rider hunger for speed. I enjoy the Diavel particularly because of its looks and the included tech. Watching your review made me think that maybe it would not be the bike for me :/ even tough you mention it is comfortable, which for me is a must, the fact it does not behave well in low rpm/speed might be a deal breaker. I still have to test one and check for myself though

      Hey! Thanks for the comment, and for checking out our Diavel review. Would definitely recommend a test ride - you certainly have to check it out for yourself before making a decision. It’s a gorgeous bike, and an absolute weapon to boot! Just don’t expect it to behave nicely around town. 😉

    Nice review though I thought your style was rather reminiscent of Alan Wicker and a bit too laid back (especially considering the bike you were riding). Your tone of voice right at the end of the review was much better, it sounded more confident and spirited (9:15 onwards).
    I have the red 2021 1260s with a Termingnoni exhaust, the sound is like a NASCAR and the engine mapping further smooths out low end cruising around town. I agree with the break lever position but, this is mainly due to being used to "normal" naked bikes where the footpegs are further back and after a few days you get used to it. I highly recommend getting a clutch slave cylinder that decreases clutch lever pull by 30% (not that the standard lever is tough). I wouldn't recommend this bike for commuting through town but, again, you soon get used to it and I regularly feather the clutch in 3rd to get a smooth, well-controlled ride at low speeds.
    One thing I must point out is that this bike is not for shy people, you don't exactly disappear into the background when out on this bike and it draws a LOT of attention, not only from other bikers but also from pedestrians and other road users.
    This is by far and away the best bike I've owned and out of the 3-cylinder, 4-cylinder and now the 2-cylinder, the 2 is my favourite, the torque and the sound are both addictive. If Ducati does come out with a v4 version, I think it will be a mistake.

    Rear brake pedal angle issue - I found the same but for me it was the ergonomics of the saddle that caused it. Tried an air hawk and everything is so much better. I think the standard saddle is too scooped out....

    Hi. First of all great review. Second- one of the few tests of the 1260 model (without S). I just ordered 1260 (black) but I still hesitate or not to add and choose 1260S (?) The biggest difference in suspension (S model with Ohlins suspension). Is it worth it? You have a comparison, between? I like all black look, so my first choice was 1260 (without S) Any advaice? Please..

    • @MOTOLANE
      @MOTOLANE  Před 2 lety

      Hi Mirek. We would definitely recommend the 1260 S. Not only do you get fully adjustable suspension - which is a must on the Diavel - but you also get the quickshifter as standard. Well worth the extra $$$ if you can afford it! Hope this helps.

      I ordered mine yesterday and got the non S. I added the quickshifter and termignoni race exhaust and it's still cheaper than the S. Ohlins is very good suspension but for the majority of riding the non S suspension is more comfortable and still provides superb handling. Here in Australia the S is $6,000 more.
      Get mine in June/July, cannot wait!

    Surely you could tune that rev range a bit to make it better at low speed?

    • @MOTOLANE
      @MOTOLANE  Před 2 lety

      No doubt you could play with the fuelling/mapping to smooth it out. Just not sure how much of an impact it would have when the exhaust valve cycles?

    I have a 2013 thinking about upgrading what you guys think

    • @MOTOLANE
      @MOTOLANE  Před 2 lety

      Hmm, if you do, would definitely recommend you go for the Diavel S over the base model. However, given Ducati are currently refreshing their entire lineup, perhaps wait a little and see if they update the Diavel as well. There’s been major updates since 2013, so it’s a different bike regardless, yet if they do release a new model you’ll either benefit from a discount on the outgoing model, or the latest from the 2022 model year. Win win 👊

    • @chachim3014
      @chachim3014 Před 2 lety

      Word is they will either go with the V4 next year or a hybrid engine. For me the L-twin sound and character eats the V4. I rode the Multistrada V4s and yeh it's absolutely rapid but lacks the character of the L-twin. Don't get me wrong the V4 is still a great engine just doesn't give you the same feel and sound as the 1262 engine.
      I was gonna wait for next year but when I found that out I pulled the trigger on the MY22. It's a well sorted engine for Ducati whereas the V4 is still having some teething issues.

    It’s a muscle bobber. That where it rips the competition. Subjective but it’s positives could put a lot of people off. The kind of bike you need to ride before pigeonholing it. One thing holds me back, the belt drive! But I like it a lot otherwise.

    • @MOTOLANE
      @MOTOLANE  Před 3 lety +2

      It’s certainly not short of character. One wicked bike, and certainly glad we got to spend a couple of weeks on it. Thankfully the Diavel 1260 is chain driven, it’s the xDiavel that’s belt-drive, which we’re yet to ride. Cracking bike overall though.
