I really feel like going for an XDiavel, can't get over how much I like it, but I always have second and third thoughts about how my passenger would feel on it. My girlfriend used to love my '13 Ninja 650, then I got the Monster 796 and she sure as hell commented how the Ninja was better for her. Not the seat though, Monster's seat is plushy, but the heat and body position bothered her... so I'm sure as hell she won't like the XDiavel :(

The best way to describe riding it is like wearing your favorite pair of shoes or holding your favorite bat or walking your most trained and loyal dog.
At 160 mph leaned all the way over on a high speed sweeper on 294 it was planted like a tree.
A feel of a Ferrari with two wheels and pure comfort. Pure joy...then when the bike feels a straight coming it melts and pushes your ass like a Bully.

I drove the Diavel S and it´s a beast. Loving the typical sound and willingness you wouldn´t expect from this kind of bike. Even after all the vids and articles you read, it´s only when you drive it you really appreciate this unique bike.
On an optical sense, I liked the XDiavel even more and the belt is a bonus considering maintenance and cleaning.... There is still more then enough torque and power available, only the placement of the footpegs weren´t my thing. Good that you mentioned Ducati has a kit for that because that I did not know.
So even for people who know a thing ot two about the Diavel, an interesting vid! Thx for that

    • @papatruss
      @papatruss Před 3 lety +2

Looking at the bike I would have to say no. Where would it go, it's all belly pan forward of the pegs. On the X there are places to attach them under you. I had the same dilemma, I too preferred the Diavel's looks over the X but had to go the the X for the simple reason that at my age my knees just don't bend the way they used too. I've had my Ducati for nearly a year now and love it. One word of warning they are very highly strung. So far the clutch slave has had to be changed and the Ducati alarm they fitted messed up my electrics, which in turn drained my battery over night. Also if you want to do anything on it it is so fiddly and awkward. You need specialised tools and everything is very expensive.
Have you tried the Triumph Rocket 3 GT? I also have one of them and the riding position is very similar to the XDiavel. You can't throw it around as much and it isn't as fast but the low down torque is amazing! Pulls like a freight train from low revs all the way though to the red line with ease, I bet you could tow a caravan with one.
I find if I just want to go out and have some fun then the Ducati is best but for a more comfortable ride it's the Triumph, you hardly have to change gears on the Rocket whilst your constantly trying to find the right gear on the Ducati.
      Love both for different reasons.
edit: and I also had problems with my back break going all spongy on the Ducati. They needed bleeding a few times. I have had the Triumph for over a year and so far she has cause me no trouble at all. The Triumph is much more solid and reliable, whilst the Ducati is like a race horse that needs so much more attention.

I’m eventually wanting to get back into riding again but told myself if I did, I either wanted a Diavel or the X Diavel. I was unaware one was more forward facing with the pegs and one was belt driven.
I am absolutely floored by the looks of these machines and I thoroughly thank you again for the comparison but I may have to eventually flip a coin to ultimately decide since I’m infatuated with both and can’t decide which to pursue!

@@smilinjoe23 I'm in the flip a coin camp as well... just wondering since you've been on both, if the comfort / handling would be resolved if I put Ohlins on the X?

@@jones3892 i do not have ohlins on the xdiavel, so I wont know. But the S model on the diavel 1260 has both rear and front ohlins suspension. I heard a lot of complaints regarding the rider's lower back riding on the x diavel due to the foot control position, rough suspension and handlebar. I do feel less strain on my lower back after modifying my seat with mean city cycles and rearward handlebar.

@@PlaidDad It's not that hard to lube and adjust the chain. Some people have issue abt rocks breaking the belts which cause more to replace than lubing and adjusting a chain. I believe it's 700$ just to buy the part.

Informative thanks! I will probably go for an Xdiavel Black Star with rear mounted pegs as you described at the end of the vid

I don't understand why someone would change the peg position on the XDiavel. If that's the feet positioning you want why not go just for the Diavel? I went for the X because I wanted that feet forward thing as I'm getting old and my knees just don't bend the way they used too. 20 or 30 odd years ago I would have gone for the Diavel. Is it that you prefer the look of the the X or the more smoother engine? The Diavel is much more of a hooligans bike. Are more of a gentleman? :-)

@@papatruss I prefer the looks of the XD and mid mounted pegs give more control IMO and puts less pressure on the small of the back on long rides... just my preferences tho' :)

@@rich0006 Cool. It is a good looking bike :-) Going over bumps on the X can send shockwaves through your spine! I try my hardest to avoid them. Have you thought about the new Rocket 3? The ride is way smoother and puts a lot less stress on your back. Really good on long trips.

@@papatruss - your experience of bumps hammering your spine makes a great case for using mid mounted pegs IMO as that would change your whole posture on the bike to stop your back being the target for shocks.... Yea a Rocket 3 is on my radar too - do you have one?

@@rich0006 Yeah, but unfortunately my knees don't do that anymore :-( I really need my legs to be as straight as poss. I have had many bikes with mid controls before, I've been riding for over 40 years and you do have so much more control too with them. I just have to be careful when our riding, keep my eyes peeled for pot holes! Sometimes I feel like I'm on a slalom course LOL.

Sat on the Diavel 1260S yesterday at my dealership and could almost flat foot it (5'5 short inseams), but unfortunately they didn't have a xDiavel on the showroom floor. Is there a noticeable seat height difference between the two?

Question, is the Diavel 1260s , concerning passenger comfort for long road trips, comparable with a multistrada 950 S? Or should i stick to my 950 S for those trips?

If you see this, quick question. Which would you say is more comfortable for longer rides? I'm in the market for a new bike and have been having a hard time deciding between the 1260S and the XDiavel. I've see reviews that say the XDiavel rides really stiff and since your legs are out in front, the shock goes right into your tail bone and up your spine. That worries me as I plan on putting some miles on whichever one I get. However, at 6'2'', I thought the XDiavel would fit me better. You're professional input would be greatly appreciated.

The XDiavel bumps do indeed go straight through to the spine. Also you can’t take the weight off your backside do it gets a bit numb. The 1260 has near perfect riding position for me (5’10)

I own the Xdiavel s, which I absolutely love but it has some serious issues which makes it expensive to own. My latest issue on my 2016 is the drive pulley getting loose because of which the belt is slipping and the dealer is forced to also replace the belt so all the benefits of the belt drive tossed out of the window. Wish these basic things were covered by Ducati
