🏕️Backpacking The Stunning Zion Traverse!

- This video is a small summary of the amazing backpacking trip my daughters and I did of the Zion Traverse route in the Zion National Park.
The Zion Traverse is a combination of several trails in the backcountry of Zion National Park. It used to be a 79 miles route but it is now been reduced to a 40 Miles long route because of a landslide on the trails continuing from the Grotto trailhead onwards. The trails included in this route are The La Verkin Trail, Hop Valley Trail, Connector Trail, Wildcat Canyon and West Rim Trail.
We did this trip in April and it was an excellent choice because all springs were flowing from the snow melt. We had to skip the connector trail because our campsite on the La Verkin Trail was 2 extra miles (4 miles two ways) above the stated mileage so it we ended up hiking the same amount of miles without the connector trail.
Regardless, this was such an amazing experience and there were so many stunning views I lost count!! I'm so proud of my daughters doing the whole thing. It was tough but absolutely amazing!

Hey, neighbor! Thanks for the great video. I did that route many years ago before the Park needed to assign campsites/tent sites. My hike was much more of a stroll than your ambitious agenda. I took six days and five nights. Only six or seven miles per day with lots of sitting and staring and late starts. Was warmer over Memorial Day so slept under the stars! Breakfast in bed. Power lunches. Sitting and enjoying a lovely place is my main enjoyment in being outdoors. Laziness? Sloth? Dunno. Don’t care. My hike. Was really great to see those scenes through your lovely cinematography. Looking forward to your next one. Driving past your city this Monday. I will wave.
That's awesome!! It must've been so cool! The biggest challenge for me was water. I had to plan it from one water source to the next. Maybe back then there were more springs or the creeks were not contaminated. Nowadays they are... You can't drink water from Hop Valley 🥺! However, it was absolutely amazing! Thank you! @@DebCampos It was lovely. Can you not drink Hop valley water because of the bacteria or because of the cattle? I strained it and filtered it and drank it anyway. Potato Hollow had a pipe stuck in the ground that dripped water into the pool. It was a little more palatable to use. And the other springs were fine. Cabin spring was not running very fast but I was able to get enough water. My last night I spent near cabin Spring.
I'm not sure because all they say was that it is contaminated. I believe it's a bacteria because they say the same for all creeks and rivers on Zion... I thought about getting water but then decided to just carry extra 🙂👍!
It’s great your daughters backpack with you. Y’all did an awesome job. My two adult kids go backpacking with me and we always have lots of fun and many laughs. Happy trails!

Cool trip. How early did you need to make your backcountry camping reservations/get your permits? Cool that there seems to be dispersed camping allowed. That was a wonderful family adventure. I hope your daughters enjoyed it. They are badasses indeed. I may meet up with a friend at Grand Teton National in the next couple of weeks. My summer hikes will be mostly in the area. I would like to record some GPS tracks and set some waypoints from the southern terminus of the Idaho Centennial Trail this Spring. Then, who knows? 😊
Thank you my friend. It was one of the most beautiful holes I've ever done. Every 5th of the month they open permits for the following month. It gets full very fast during Spring and fall... The Grand Teton has been in my radar for a long time. Gotta be bear aware though. Seems like you have a great itinerary for this summer!! Awesome 😎😎👍👍!

How did you manage water supply, did you plan on caching some water along the trail or did you just rely on spring water?
What shuttle did you use to get to trailhead and how much did it cost? Is the shuttle running on schedule?
What was your meal ration look like for this trip? Did you hang your food away from tent or was there any food locker?
Also how does "toilet" work on the trail? Did you use wag-back or just plan to do it on the outhouse along the trails?

Hello, I'll try to answer most of your questions.
- Since it was early April their springs were still running.
- I hung my food always.
- You need to use a wag bag. I hate it but is mandatory.
- I had a friend drop me off at the trailhead while my car was parked in the visitor center. I live close to Zion.
- I wrote down the food I'd eat each meal and packed that amount.

I used all trails! All the trails are super well marked though. It'll be hard to get lost. I'm glad you're going. It was so far the most beautiful hike I've done!!🙂🙂
