I have one of the lower-level Sony ES decks, the KA2ES. I don’t use S very often, but when I do, it’s usually with Type 1. Dolby S was the main reason I bought it, along with having three heads and some serious tape tuning options.
IF THE DECK HAS DOLBY S. IT WIL HAVE AUTO DOLBY HX-PRO TO. BUT IT RECORDS THE REC. LEVEL LOWER. AND IN THE MANUEL STANDS IT ONLY WORKS ON EVERY DECK THAT HAS DOLBY HX-PRO. AND ON THE DECK YOU SEE ONLY DOLBY B. C. AND. S. THE DOLBY HX-PRO GOES AUTMATICLY.
Hx pro makes nothing to levels. It controls a level of bias depending on how many high freqs are in a signal at every moment. Kind of helps highs to sound better

I never owned a Dolby S deck, but always wanted one. This 3-head unit is very nice!

I would say this is the best deck for recording you have there. :-)
Good luck finding a new or mint condition unit these days.
Is it really necessary using Dolby-S for this kind of music? Tape-Noise would be a beautiful accompaniment to this monotone house-sound.

What filetype you used to make the recording?
that was just an mp3 320 kps iirc
I would be interested to know if I would hear an improvement in sound if it would be a FLAC or WAV-file.
