I really do think that the underappreciated strength of El Estepario Siberiano is his imagination, as you were saying. He is not afraid to push the boundaries of what is possible on drums and even do some stuff that seems impossible. This, combined with his insane dedication and work ethic, is what produces these amazing videos.
That and he does these covers better than original with the most minimal kit
I want him to keep doing his own thing. No matter what that might become. He's a great entertainer.

i was going to say exactly the same thing: when you take away all the flash with the kicks and the chops, his left hand is the heart of what he does. it's doing all mannter of some of the most incredible, subtle things at such high speed, things that jazz drummers can't do. his technique is flawless.

I enjoy your commentary and enthusiastic enjoyment. Slipknot isn't my cup of tea but EES did a beautiful Handpan rendition of one of their songs. From the little I heard about the way they released their last drummer of ten years, I'd be leery of working with them. They broke up with the guy by sending him the equivalent of a post-it note! Perhaps there was more to it, but damn! Last point. Lots of folks want him to join a band and he has in the past, but why? He has an immense, worldwide audience and the freedom to pursue his creative urges as his own boss in his own home. In a full time band, he'd have to do exhausting tours and be constrained to holding down the beat and regurgitating the same content night after night. I think it's cool that he has the courage to pursue his own vision and inspire others along the way. Kudos!!!

They released their original drummer, who was also a founding member and main songwriter for the band in a similar fashion through an email. Slipknot is a revolving door of band members at this point and I'm no longer surprised anytime they "part ways" with a member.
It wasn't a Slipknot song he did on the handpan, it was a System of a down song.

Every little thing in a drumkit have becomed more and more advanced over the years..but the PILLOW in the bassdrum remains😄
I tell you what, Varus picked the right guy to endorse. Five cymbals, a snare, a tom, a kick, and a double pedal... he makes unbelievable grooves on these songs with what amounts to a beginner set. Definitely fun to watch and listen to. Great reaction.

I'm a fan of someone who can accomplish what he does on such a small assembly but... I'd also absolutely love to see him in Slipknot hamming away on a full (larger) kit! And we have to realize that the different songs call for it also. I was told by more accomplished drummers that if you can't play it on a minimal size kit then there's no way that more is gonna make you any better. I believe Estepario has proven beyond reason that fact!

Could he do it? No question. Is he the best fit? Probably not. It's not a skill issue (obviously) or that he can't restrain himself to play in a band (he has and does now, from boring business stuff, to stage performance, and now in the studio). Jorge himself said they'd be better off calling up Eloy Casagrande, who is one of the people he looks up to in metal drumming. I tend to agree. Eloy is absolutely phenomenal. Jorge absolutely loves Slipknot and exeptionally skilled himself, so when he says he wants the best for the band and that he knows what that would look like, you can believe it.
You don't want to miss his recent renditions of Godzilla and Knights of Cydonia. Cheers! Love your work dude

In your evaluation of the compatibility of fitting into a previously formed musical unit: a key issue of substance is composition.
A new, unheard track - how does the drummer orchestrate the song?
Does the rest of the bsnd hear it that way?
Is the drummer willing to play what the producer knows will work on the finished track?
Those are often snags that new band draftees have to work through….

ive watched a lot of your "reaction" videos (and other peoples reactions...etc) and i had to say.... I know it must be tempting to stop and comment about certain sections, and thats fine if you have something REALLY worthwhile to add. But this one just rocks so hard, just letting it run was the right choice. It's rough when you get head nodding and into the groove and someone constantly stops it to add their 2c. Thats not the case on every clip or every situation but it was well done on this, and your take afterwards was spot on 👍

Coincido contigo en que sería una bueno ejecutando las canciones de Slipknot, pero lo prefiero en CZcams, solo por puro egoísmo...me encanta verle cada semana subiendo música que siendo vieja suena incluso innovadora. Su cover de los bongos o el de Gangnam style o el de Blinding lights son fabulosos... Incluso el de Eminem cuando se vuelve loco tocando. Es único y diferente y muy muy trabajador para conseguir esos resultados.
Y sobre todo...nadie le corta su libertad creativa. En la única banda que lo veo sería en la suya propia (que ahí anda), en la que él corte el bacalao. Grande es poco, ENORME se le acerca 👏🏻🥁🤘🏻⚡🔥.

He's making more online and has way more freedom and less drama. Extremely good musicians can take away from the rest of the band and have to tone it down sometimes.
EES as we all call him now, he's a beast! But I just realized what he has done for us drummers. His ghost notes are so on fukking point, and you can hear 'em, everyone can in his mix.
All his drumset sounds so crisp, and he got the chops! But I still think it is his ghostynotes that makes him swing so good!
I've been playing drums in a bluesy hardrock setting since 2007 and I learned about ghostnotes in about 2011 and that's a game changer. Damn.

The first time I saw an estepario siberiano video I doused my kit with petrol and burned it. Sold the aluminium for scrap and bought a triangle.
Jay would be a perfect fit in Rage Of Light. They've never had an official drummer, all the drum tracks are digital written by the guitarist/keyboardist.
They say “never meet your heroes.” I’ve been a slipknot fan since the beginning. I absolutely love their music. That said, they seem to have a problem with each other and I can only imagine this young man, who has admitted slipknot is his favorite band, going in there starry eyed and being run over by the apparent assholes that are in that band. Step has all the ability in the world to do whatever he wants. He has the world by the balls right now and I’m not sure that he’s not too humble to realize it. If I was him, I’d do a tour if they ask but I would not commit to anything other than that.
If he ended up with them, not a single person would be upset lol doing this with his own spin on it elevates an already great song.

thats because Corey and Clown hire " stopgaps and fill-ins " ..... in order to maintain control . Someone who will keep their head down and their mouth shut and not ask for a big slice of the pie . However EES is a legitimate "successors " and a considerable upgrade . Let's see if the Slipknot brain trust wants to do a few more legecy tours and call it a day OR if they truly want to regain their crown .

Luana Dametto does a lot of drumming videos of Crypta songs on their Official channel, the whole band does. She was also in Nervosa with bassist/singer Fernanda Lira. Luana uses a small kit, 6 piece Tama with 4 Paiste cymbals. She makes speed drumming and blast beats look effortless, her main influences are Brazilian drummers Aquiles Priester and Eloy Casagrande as well as Jay & Joey, she cites Slipknot as the biggest influence on her musical style and career. Check out her playthroughs of From The Ashes, Trial Of Traitors, I Resign or Kali, she's impressive.

Rusty, think about that. EES fills in and then a "NEW EMPLOYEE" drummer has to follow THAT, on his first day on the job??? No pressure there. I don't think anybody wants that challenge, I sure wouldn't want to follow a goat especially on the first "trial" performance.
Looking at EES always reminds me of the video by Chris Cunningham for Aphex Twin's "Monkey Drummer" track...
It's something about EES' movements that has a sort of robotic quality about it that doesn't rhyme with the amount of groove that he plays with.
edit: that's not a suggestion for you to react to, unless you're interested in reviewing beats by drum computers that are visually emphasized by a partly CGI ape-man-robot's drumming. That said, I do think you might want to watch it off cam, because it's a weirdly interesting video, even though nothing really happens.

I agree with you, he needs his freedom to grow, he’s so young yet. I can’t see him at this point in his life to be tied down….. I wouldn’t if I had his talent. Like Bozzio, ya have to be picky and maybe shine with several bands. 🤷🏼

There are a few pro musicians in my family (not me). My grandmother always said a great soloist is seldom a great member of the chorus. Given Slipknot's musical style and percussion arrangements, though, I think EES could be a pretty good fit. As you say, though, assuming it would work for him.

As amazing as El Estepario is, there is one element that we’ve not seen. We definitely do have tons of evidence of what he can do with a piece of music _that already exists_
we don’t know how he would react with a brand new group of musicians who were setting about writing a bunch of brand new songs; that’s a whole different galaxy from doing covers. I hope to find out though, I love this guy.

The problem with EES playing in Slipknot is that he would draw too much attention from Cory and the other characters already in the band. Now, if he did a small tour in country with them to see how it went and the character he would bring, would be interesting.
