There's a bit of the sea claimed by Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and China. But especially China. Why do they want it? And how do they stake their claims? Especially China.

Yes, and they draw 11 Lines on here even two more than PRC. Particularly, Taiwan still owns one island called"TaiPing Island" （太平岛）on east part of the sea. Incredible and chaotic. Anyway, welcome to the Far East, chaotic, complex, historical and a little peaceful.😂🙃
The one place where the ROC and PRC have consistently worked together.
Their claims are a bit different now as the PRC and Vietnam came to an agreement for some areas, which the ROC doesn't recognize.
It also gets more complicated by the ROC officially holding to the One China Policy but in practice recognizing that they are a separate country from the PRC (officially abandoning the One China Policy would piss off the PRC more than any ROC government has been willing to do). However, regardless of their claims to the Mainland, they still claim the Spratly Islands and their military conducts sovereignty operations there.
That's the weird thing: they never relinquished any claims that they had before they separated, so technically they believe they should. That's just on paper, though.
They said "China", not "rebel provinces". ;)
Well taiwan isn't a real country so who cares.

There is always two.
Well, besides the "nine dash line", there's another thing called the "eleven dash line", which was claimed by Republic Of China (a.k.a. Chinese Taipei or Taiwan), since they own several islands there.
Didn't know about the Eleven-Dash Line! That has more dashes than even the Nine-Dash Line of the PRC!
Taiwan
Taiwan is part of China, so China technically has two lines - the nine dash and the eleven dash, if both were used then we would probbo have a twenty dash line.
Taiwanese will hate you for that calling them part of China.
Our CCP governmemt is weak. This is the reason some of us Chinese hope that the Kuomintang can lead China if mainland and taiwan unite.

I love it when they do that. I've filmed in front of market stalls before. They almost always insist you buy something or you're not allowed to film there. I love those moments because I don't end up buying anything, they try to get me to go away, get the cops involved and the cops tell him there's no law against what I am doing and he has to leave me alone.
I dunno, I can see from the shop owner's perspective that it might be frustrating, since people will tend to stay away from an active filming so they don't get in the way. If they're there for more than a minute or two they might actually be driving away potential customers. Probably not, but there's my best attempt at giving it a fair shake. Of course there's no excuse to get police involved since no law is being broken, but again they might genuinely not know that so it's still easy to feel a bit sorry for them.
At the very least, I don't think it's appropriate to feel proud about upsetting someone, but I guess that's just me.

This is a very educational video, though I think it would be more complete if you guys also mention the Paracel islands, which is a bit north of Spratly islands and being claimed by Viet Nam, China, and Taiwan, just like the Spratly (the actual control of the Paracel via military means is currently held by China, though, after they took it by force from VN in 1974).
(Occupation on the Spratly islands are not as uniform, being split between Viet Nam, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei, the first two hold the vast majority. And VN is also an ethusiastic participant of the island building fest over there too :)) )

Thanks for explaining though. This is a big issue in our country right now. Especially of current government switched sides from US to China, giving them a tighter grip in claiming our sea. One of the islands there is the Kalayaan Islands (Freedom Islands). and YES, there are Filipinos living in that island. These greedy Chinese government would use all their cards just to claim the disputed waters.
We always claimed these island even before your grandpa was born.

The truth is, that there are a lot of ships passing through that region of the ocean anyway, so in proportion to the number of successful voyages, there is nothing about the Bermuda Triangle that makes shipwrecks any more likely.
This was posted in August 2016. There was a decision by the UN in July that year that China’s claims are invalid. There is long established law on maritime exclusivity zones, that china’s claims completely violate. Look up what % of vital international trade flows through theses waters. If China controls these currently-international waterways, then future trade wars will become hot very quickly. Philippines has older maps that claimed the Scarborough shoal/Panatag Islands to be own by the Philippines. It dated back 1700's, compare to the historical map of China that were released in 1930s/40s. So, Philippines has more right to claim Panatag Islands, and that's a fact!
