    It looks like I did not mention one thing that was in my notes that I thought I did mention. That you can shoot at 20 FPS and 30 FPS, Nikon does not hinder the frames per second with this lens, like Sony does.

    I like that there are quality 3rd party lens coming out for the Z-mount now. Gives Nikon shooters a wider variety to select from. This lens looks like a solid option for a Nikon shooter with a full frame Z mount camera.

      Hello...have you tried the Nikkor Z 24-120 f/4 S lens? I can say with confidence that it is quite sharp and operates flawlessly (at least on a Z7 or Z8). I'm sure you'll enjoy either lens.

  • @HR-wd6cw
    @HR-wd6cw Před 11 měsíci +6

    I'm just glad as a Nikon Z user that Nikon has finally allowed Sigma and Tamron to make native Z lenses now. About the only complaint i have is that Tamron's 70-300 for Z, which is more than the F-mount version from Nikon, lacks in-lens stabilization, which if you're charging $700 for a lens, it should have in-lens stabilization (yes, the FF cameras have IBIS but this is only helpful up to a point). But regardless, I do like that Tamron is bringing some of the lenses offered for E mount, to the Z mount now. The more third parties that get on-board, the better the system will be because people will have options, and I think that's what Nikon really wants now that they've built-out their core set of lenses under the Nikon badge (such as your holy trinity of both fast and "slower" f/4 lenses). Although I would like to see Tamron perhaps do something like a 28-200 for Z or a 28-300 perhaps (that hopefully is sharper than the Z 24-200 at the longer end), or even a 24-240 to allow Nikon users to compete a bit more with CAnon and Sony travel zoom options (not that it's a competition in that particular segment with travel zooms).

  • @OriginalWatchcow
    @OriginalWatchcow Před 11 měsíci +7

    A prismatic VR stage in the lens makes the light path longer, adds weight, cost, complexity, and can tecuce sharpness. As you said already, the target market for this lens is cameras that have IBIS, so i dont count not having in lens VR/VC as a problem.

    I’d totally get this lens IF I didn’t already have the Nikon Z 24-120/4 S. I know this lens is a little different but there’s just too much overlap for me to justify. That said-I’m glad Tamron came out with such a cool lens!

      I have this lens for Sony E mount, it is amazing, but 35mm is very limiting and I need to carry with me second body with a wider lens. 24-120 feels to be an amazing range, I would say it is more useful than 35-150. Though f2-f2.8 is noticably better than f4. There are always some tradeoffs.

      I’ve had the Sony version since it came out (about 18 months ago), and it is absolutely fantastic! Started on a 7iv, but now on a 7RV. It gets the bulk of my shots. Love it!!interestingly, though, I just purchased the Tamron 28-200 f2.8-5.6 specifically for some upcoming overseas travel. I like to pack light, and it’s significantly smaller and lighter, which should serve me well for extensive walk-around shooting. As much as I love the 35-150, at 70 yrs old, it gets a bit heavy on the shoulder after a few hours. YMMV, of course 😊

    I just bought the Nikon Z 24-120 f/4 instead of this lens . I almost went for this Tampon I mean Tamron 😮😅😂.

    The reason for these two lenses over this is weight . I’m building live music light weight video kits .
    I’ll get the Nikon 14-24 S f/2.8 to replace the Tamron 15-30. I still have Nikon DSLRS d-850-810-500. Then now the Z9 . I’m building a mirrorless system also and a saving weight Trio. 14-24 S f/2.8 , 24-120 S f/4 and probably the 100-400 S f/4.5 to 5.6 .
    I have the Sony 16-35 f/4 PZ and 200-500 G . I want for this setup the 28-135 PZ . I have been waiting for an updated optical, faster focusing new version. Looks like I may have to get the older version and deal with the lesser af .
    I have many many Nikon F mount Zooms and Primes going from 1959 to the 70-200 f/2.8 fl vr e I adapt also I can adapt Sony af glass and have Leica M I adapt .

    If something like this came out before I purchased 6 other Z lenses, I may have considered spending the 2 grand. It would have come out much cheaper in the long run. Besides, my slower 24-200 works just fine outdoors with a wider range than the Tamron. Think I'll put that money toward a Z8.

    Do the Nikon Z8 and Z9 offer the feature some Canon cameras do, called "same expo. for new aperture"? This feature will let the camera maintain the same exposure if you zoom in and out with a variable aperture zoom lens. So as the aperture changes, the camera adjusts the ISO, shutter speed or either, as per your choice in settings.
    It also works if you change lenses (e.g. to a slower Max. aperture lens) or fit an extender. The camera auto adjusts one the values to maintain the same exposure it had before the lens/adapter change.

    Jared, can you double check the aperture vs. focal length stats. These appear to be different than the stats reported for the sony version for this lens. So, either one of the sets is incorrect OR this Z mount has managed to provide a wider aperture for a longer time period, which would be amazing.
    Sony lens reports - 35-38mm = f/2
    39-58mm = f/2.2
    59-79mm = f/2.5
    80-150mm = f/2.8
    Your video reports
    35-39 2.0
    40-74 2.1
    75. 2.2
    85-129 2.7
    130-150 2.8
    Please advise

One of the things I enjoy is stage/event photography like yourself. Are you leaning more towards the Tamron lens than the 70-200 trinity? Any insight if Nikon's TCs will work with this lens?

    Hi Jared, at minute 05:28 you talk about aperture change throughout the zoom focal length. It's seems to me like it is different from Sony which is very odd, 2.1 and 2.7 are not common apertures and 2.5 (in third stop increments is missing).
    One other thing, I wonder how Nikon is allowing this lens to debut on its Z mount given the fact that it is an amazing unique lens and priced relatively okay, and so far the Nikon strategy is to allow third party mainly tamron at this stage that are mid-priced mid-level same as Canon EF more or less With Sigma and Tamron.
    What are the odds that this lens will make its way to canon RF before 2033...? (and I am a Canon shooter haha)
