I took the start scene as being mark and omni man in another dimension rather than being a look at the future. We see angstrom levy use a portal to get out at the end of the scene and he looks normal rather than the deformed state he ends up in at the end of the episode

You are correct. The reviewer totally missed that VERY IMPORTANT plot point.
Pretty sure the opening is from one of the alternate realities. It's mentioned that our version is one of the few where Mark goes against Omni Man.

I didn't read the comics but i assumed season 2 had no way to out do season one but this season is strong so far
We just watched a show about dimensions, how do you know it was the future and not another dimension?
