I can read between the lines. He wanted the Daily Show, but they didn't want to make him a permanent host. He's not about to wait around and see what happens next. He's appreciative of the exposure and he'll move on.

Whoever is Roy's manager is pretty genius. Everybody is gunning for Roy to get this job, Jordan Klepper talks candidly about him, Jon Stewart does a rare appearance of support, other correspondents clear the way for him.
And then Comedy Central comes out and gets cute.
Him leaving the show has created this huge void as far as I'm concerned. Knowing he's not there makes me want to watch the show less. And I know I'm not alone.
By doing this, hopefully they see a very strong "you only miss something when it's gone" kind of feeling. And he gets the appreciation he deserves. Right now, he's not, but I see it approaching that way regardless.
Roy is the genius. Why your need to transfer that to some 'handler'.
When Jon Stewart himself shows up as a goddamn Jedi Master to support him getting the gig you would think Comedy Central would have listened...

What I'll really miss is his Daily Show Beyond The Scenes podcast. There you not only got his funny-as-hell side, but more of the depth of his intelligence, empathy and journalistic skill. Roy Wood Jr. deserves his place as one of the most beloved thinkers on the scene today, and while he's one of my favorite comedians, he does so much more than that. Bless the man, and all he contributes for the rest of us.
I’m gonna miss him cause I literally watched the daily show for Trevor and then for him. I’m gonna be so sad! I do hope they bring him back in January but if not / I pray something better comes along cause I need him in my daily life!!

I am really going to miss his Beyond the Scenes. He did some serious research in important issues and delivered solid interviews.
I think Roy deserves to be the lead in a sit-com. Maybe HBO or Showtime, so you won't be censored.

From a business standpoint it’s actually brilliant. When you have a job somewhere and get promoted you get a raise. Now he can go on a comedy tour and then when/if they come crawling back you hit them with a crazy number. No, that doesn’t work for it’s anymore… We need THIS now.
