Roy Wood Jr.'s correspondents' dinner set was excellent.
I just checked it out, and he starts right out with such a perfect joke, damn 😂 Just glad to see a comedian daring to go there, beyond just taking sides.
Roy killed it at the Correspondent's Dinner. He deserves to be the new host of The Daily Show.
Actually way better than Conan’s.
This is one of the most analytical discussions of a comedy set I've ever heard. You have to be a genius to do the Correspondent's Dinner.

I can't imagine working on the spot like Conan and Roy, chopping and changing your jokes, editing your script on the spot! That's high pressure environment, but makes them geniuses in their line of work. Very neat to hear how Roy stacked his set, to make the jokes progress in levels, and to go after people on both sides and how to time it right. There's a science behind all this!
Super interesting to hear the crafting of the order of jokes and the thoughts behind it. Really makes you appreciate even more the skill that is required to do what they do and how they make it seem so effortless, like it's just a natural conversation.
Thought the exact thing. Love listening to comedians talk through the technical aspects of a set.
Great to listen to Conan talk about the craft of comedy. It’s easy to assume joke writing and performance structure are just a given with these people. It’s a difficult set of skills and Conan is world class with presentation. Love this timeline, thank you for all of the great content and love Team Coco ❤
That killing with kindness part is so hilarious because you can picture it happening. I can guess how infuriating it is when you're busy doing something then someone tries to be cordial and converses with you at the same time, which would be great if the talk is happening on another occasion.
Roy is awesome, so glad Conan got him on the show!
Roy Wood Jr and Jordan Klepper for Daily Show Hosts! Have 2 anchors like most news shows. They banter back and forth, have them both try to do a news story about the other's culture. Like Roy does some white people news story, Jordan does something about a black entertainer. It would be perfect.

I always love the anxieties and inner workings of the comedian mind in these awkward situations and their fear of bombing. There's nothing greater than comedian's telling each other about gigs where they bombed. IConan having to follow the most powerful man in the world that's also charismatic and knows how to work an audience is hilarious.

I think Roy's set was the best correspondence set I've seen. None were bad.. Seth Meyer's was funny scorching t-rump but he definitely caused him to run for President..

He was hilarious(arguably the funniest host ever, except maybe Norm), but he also was serious and tried to use the opportunity to speak directly to the people who need to fix/stop what they're doing in journalism

This was a very interesting discussion, but possibly the least funny episode. Roy was obviously more interested in having a deep conversation, which is absolutely fine and I enjoyed it a lot, but it wasn't as funny an episode as I may have been hoping for. Please don't get me wrong, listening to Roy was riveting. Just a different kind of episode.
