- Birdy uses his gyrocopter to "muster" (round up) cattle on a cattle station in Australia. Rob Dubin stopped by for a visit and filmed Birdy doing some demo flying. This is a clip where they mounted the video camera on the gyro to do some flying. Birdy is a professional pilot and the manuevers you see should not be attempted by novice pilots. For more information on gyrocopters see www.pra.org and www.rotoryforum.com.

'Reminds me of the "Road Warrior". Those flip-flops are hardcore. This is a perfect representation of when man and machine become one. Excellent flying! Amazing talent.
You are my new hero. Well done.
Thankyou for useing the sound of the machine. It helps the realism of the video, much better than the usual music[ or some such noise] on many video's,
This man is my hero what a fantastic gyro pilot
Fun video to watch. That looks like fun and the surrounding area looks quite pretty.
The pilot wore flip flops... that is rather funny.
And there was I thinking that microlights were the way to go! Sheesh! Unbelievable. Outstanding.
of all of the videos on youtube with gyros this one and part one are probably the best two if a person has a mind to learn abit about flying this machine. The sounds of the gyro and movements of the pedal in concert can start a fan in the right direction.
regards
Love the flying boots!
sandals? thats hardcore.
There are now parachoutes on airplanes (small ones). There has to be a way to engineer a parachoute for gyrocopters. True they may not need them, but there's nothing wrong with being extra safe. Just figuring out where one could go is the issue. On the bottom or towards the back? But if you landed you'd land upside down or on the nose (of the shoot was on the back).
AMAZING PILOT THAT BIRDY GUY IS !!
Amazing !! I want it !
No, in Texas the flip flops have heels on them to dig in the dirt and stop the gyro if the brakes fail on roll out. I think this is in Oz.
MAD MAX!!!
I can't believe how SHORT the landing roll out is.. WOW
"Never seen a man beat a snake before.... Who are 'ya?...."
Have you seen the enclosed 2 place machines? The new Sport Copter is pretty sweet lookng. also the Magni, ELA, and other european models are very nice looking with fairings.
@extere I'm not sure what the gyro started out as. It has been modified by the owner. A lot of it is custom built for his use.
This gyro is a working gyro. Birdy herds cattle with it in the Australian outback. Looks aren't important.
Who owns Bartertown?
Ha Ha. True Aussie. Wether mowing the yard, using an axe, walking in the scrub or flying a gyro the only suitable foot wear is a pair of black double plugger thongs. Good on ya mate.
That's the name Birdy has named it. Not sure what make it started out as. It's an Australian make.
Australian outback.
Cool, but don't your toes get cold?
Say Birdy.. might be a good idea if you get them rotors in for an x ray.. lotsa stress there mate..
This looks like a Benson with a stabiliser.. and Ali blades i assume.. cant imagine what sorta tricks you would get up to with some softer Carbon blades.. good on ya mate..
Is this what you call a Birdys Eye View... ?? heh heh...
looks HIGHLY dangerous
Looks like you have lost your fear of dieing with that thing. Looks like fun.
Birdy calls his gyro "Feral". I assume it's because it's wild and untamed.
At 3:11 he gets pretty close to the spectators
Hehe awaome Japanese riding boots
This is quite possibly the UGLIEST gyrocopter I have ever seen.
Just for clarification, what do you mean when you say "feral", does the pilot have a liscence? (do you need one in Australia for a bird that small?)
I know in the outback there are plenty of bush pilots who don't have liscences, is that the case here?
i think feral is a name of gyrocopter.
im impressed with your skills. check out the joints, you put too much stress with that maneuver. how much horse power does this have?
Real nice. if you fly like that in belgium,
you are going to finish in jail very quickly ..
