In the 1840s Americans caught a fever to fulfill their Manifest Destiny - to expand from coast to coast that eventually led to the Mexican-American War. President Polk was elected in 1844 as a candidate promising to secure what many Americans felt was their god-given right, to capture the Oregon Territory and California- at whatever cost.
This is episode three of our "Westward Expansion" series that teaches students the beliefs behind Manifest Destiny, how America had been expanding since its colonial days, and how Polk's decision to send troops into disputed territory led to a war that greatly expanded America's lands while Mexico lost nearly half of theirs.
History For Humans is dedicated to helping all students learn with on-screen text, engaging multimedia, powerful historical images, and an engaging story that guides the video and full lesson plans to ensure comprehension and critical thinking!
    I do hope you enjoy,
    dan :)
