2019 Dynamite Debut: 1.4 Million
2024: 500k.
Anyone who says this isn't a cause for concern is delusional.
Thatâs before punk debuted in 2021. So they were averaging 900k to sometimes a million pre Punk arrival.
And it's not like it has a streaming platform.
@@williamhowe1 if they get a deal with WBD I think theyâll be on Max
"B-but, the other place had years of bad ratings too! "
@@XombieLejon66 The other place had a streaming service.
AEW lost 300K since they aired the footage of Brawl Out in an attempt to make CM Punk look bad
That was such a low point from a booking perspective. Forget about how it shattered the spirit of AEW, it was just such a mark of like "this could be WCW and this would be on the documentary" where before AEW didn't have those just sad moments
Fr. It made them look so bush league. And if you think about, the only logical choice to bring down the Elite in storyline seems to be Punk.
So brawl out was their finger poke of doom?
@@osu3167 No showing the clips was the finger poke of dom. They could have fired and blamed Punk and been above it, but they went down below Punk's level
â@@blablablaa14 It's almost as if punk wasn't the only problem in that entire situation đ
I still can't believe they decided to start shit over Colt fucking Cabana. A guy who has never been regularly featured and was brought back once for a petty showing before being shooed off tv again.
What a wild ride
Sheldon, Howard, Leonard and Raj-the 4 pillars of AEW
Imagine having a product that is so pathetic that you have to blame your low ratings on the show that comes on before you? Iâve never heard WWE try to make that excuse. Iâve never heard NXT try to make that excuse. Even TNA never made that excuse.
hilarious
Should replace Raj with Penny lol
This is funny đđ
I think airing the Punk/Perry brawl hurt the perception of AEW a lot
This. A lot of their own fans weren't cool with AEW sinking to that level for cheap heat/ratings from a guy that isn't even in the company.
It affirmed why I stopped watching AEW over a year ago. Anyone who fears for their life after watching a slap and a 3 second chokehold almost definitely doesn't have the right mind for booking pro wrestling.
its just not a really fun show
It was already hurt since before Brawl Out. After Cody left, TK started booking random matches but still had the MJF-Punk storyline. But after Punk was suspended and then gone, shit went downhilll
âThat doesnât work for me Brotherâ -Sheldon
I read this in his voice and it made it that much better lol
Crazy how the decline started when triple h got full control of creative
Started when Vince left & the whole punk debacle that leadership (TK) refused to resolve, punk included cause heâs a moron in that situation also.
Was that after the perverted CEO stepped down?
Classic: a nerd losing to a jock đ
â@@eptx830 Pro wrestling is where jocks and theatre kids mix. The "jocks" in pro wrestling are just roided out nerds.
Well thatâs factually not true. AEW started declining when Vince was still running things towards the tail end
âWhen Sheldon Cooper is your biggest draw, thereâs a problem.â
This statement perfectly summarizes AEWâs inability to produce stars or retain stars with drawing power or mainstream potential.
Actually that statement is wrong. Sheldon Cooper is a money maker for Big Bang Theory. People still tune into seeing Sheldon more than they do for any wrestler
Just give Sheldon, Raj, and Leonard the trios belts. It'll put more eyes on it more than the gang-bang gang
Sheldon Cooper & Kendrick Lamar being blamed for lack of viewers is hilarious to me đđ
@@olaakande5581Most black fans like myself only watched for a few wanting to see Swerve then dipped when the concert started I watched it back on recording and realized the show was actually pretty solid and entertaining.
People donât think Kendrick Lamar is that popular, but the last few months proved he is
They have stars, they just refuse to use them outside of making dream matches.
The worst thing to happen to AEW is Vince McMahon no longer controlling WWE. For over a decade many people thought they wanted an alternative and they got it and were excited for it. But once Vince was gone and HHH took over I think a lot of people realized that the alternative they wanted wasnât a different company but a different booker. This isnât the only factor, far from it actually but I do believe it is the biggest.
Thats a good thing. Wcw and aew came around to make wwe better and forcing the rid of the root problems
My thoughts exactly. Notice that when Triple H became the Creative Officer behind the scenes, things started to get better for the WWE. Meanwhile, AEW began to go downhill after 2022 with the BRAWL IN & BRAWL OUT controversy
People actually wanted an alternative because of Vince ppl were drawn back in after he went away and the Bloodline angle carried for forever until then. AEW had been hard to watch frfr after about 6-8 months. Personally I havenât watched a full show in forever and it got worse everytime I tried to come back and enjoy it. MJF and a few others were some of the few bright spots.
For sure.
TK is booking the shows like Vince. If you saw Triple H booking NXT Black & Gold, you could guess what would he bring to the table once he took over Creative. Black & Gold was basically the pilot show for him to know what to do on the main roster once VKM was no longer on the company. Thank God Vince is gone for good!
Adding belts as an excuse to have matches instead of storylines leading to matches is the top killer of AEW
And the matches are way too predictable. Give me a card where I don't know who's going to win
And the matches always go on foreverđ
Lots of people have said it time and time again. Tony Khan is not a booker and never will be regardless of how many times Meltzer wants to fellate him in his little newsletter. AEW has no stars, no storylines, and no build up to anything. Allowing the wrestlers to go out there and do every move under the sun to each other every match is not good wrestling and cheapens everyone to the point of irrelevance.
Wrestling thrives off of psychology both in the storylines and in the matches themselves. AEW matches are just spotfests, there is no flavor to any of it. Fans can't/won't keep coming back if you just keep giving them the same lifeless crap over and over again. Steak is great for a meal but eating it every day without seasoning, sides, veggies and a tasty drink would get old very fast.
Because the true forbidden door happened, I believe in Joe Hendry
whos that
"oh they aired black panther and not tbbt. oh kendrick lamar had a concert. oh the show aired during the global nap time. oh people were too busy talking about aew online to tune in. oh people accidentally tuned in for a knitting competition instead." i swear any excuse but to admit the week to week produce isn't grabbing peoples attention.
sad thing is a WB exec actually did blame rating on the weather this week. remember not AEW fan or AEW itself but a guy in WB I swear there has too big book of excuses lying around
Nah the Kendrick Lamar concert is valid. His first concert in years and right after his beef with drake. It was historic
Vince leaving WWE was the worst thing to happen to AEW.
AEW was a response to Vince Mcmahon's terrible booking. Now that Triple H vastly improved the product, AEW is now obsolete.
This đŻđŻ
And having 600k next week isnât any better, they literally lost 300k viewers from last year when they were hitting 800-900k viewership. Thatâs not good at all. They just need to focus on producing CONSISTENTLY (keyword here) good shows.
The elite story being a flop isnât surprising considering the young bucks arenât a draw at all & neither is Jack Perry. Okada is great in this role but at what cost?
Great at saying bitch. What a gimmick đ
Yes, and having more matches where the winner isn't totally obvious. I'm as ardent an AEW fan as anyone, but I didn't even watch Dynamite for a month because I was preoccupied with watching teams in the NBA/NHL playoffs. I've gone back to watching Dynamite now, but it's not as if they were doing much to compel to watch
I doubt Omega(if he were healthy)would save The new Elite angle but he would have helped a bit to make it somewhat interesting. Part of the Elite stuff not clicking is because their main opponent is Omega and he's out injured.
No one was ever going to take The Elite serious trying to be the NWO. The Bucks are no Hall and Nash
@@BryantFinlaywhat happened to the storyline of the elite vs Tony khan? Itâs completely dead. The dude is back and booking like normal. Thereâs no continuity and no logic. Itâs just like a bunch of cosplayers pretending to be wrestlers doing skits on CZcams about wrestling. Which what the weeks after their assault on Tony khan segments of the bucks taking over the production truck and all feels that way.
No BBT is not a valid excuse unless youâre also giving credit to BBT for all the times they drew a good number. Even then, itâs STILL not valid.
Thank you, I love the idea of "There's no excuse for this" and yet comes up with an excuse for AEW's record low rating. đ
When the ratings are fully dependent on if Big Bang airs, WBD might as well show Big Bang, Young Sheldon, or a brand new Big Bang universe show in the AEW timeslot
Clearly they need to make Sheldon the champion
The funny thing is that the actor of Sheldon its tĂłxic is fuck, so nothing Will change.
The WAY the Punk situation was handled, from well before he was let go up until the most recent attempt to capitalize upon the situation, is a major factor. It speaks to the lack of confidence in Tony's leadership and to the lack of quality control in terms of the show's creative direction, both of which are endemic to the ratings tanking.
The Jericho segments are abysmal
And Bryan Keith being a heel doesn't make sense.
The Bucks segments are also abysmal as well. Jericho needs to go away for a while
But he's The Learning Tree! *Apple falls on head*
I mean.. they made Cody Rhodes & CM Punk want to return to WWE. Cody Rhodes who was freaking Stardust & CM Punk who we never thought would return to WWE after all the shit he talked.. itâs insane to think about
Even made jade Cargill want to go to WWE and they "pushed" her strong as hell
How anyone can sit there with a straight face, and no hint of irony, and say "well, they didn't have Big Bang Theory"??? If you're a fan of a tv show, it doesn't fucking matter what is on before it, you're tuning in for the TV show. If AEW has 600k/700k/800k Genuine, REAL fans, then Big Bang should have little to no bearing on the numbers
The problem is they donât have any real stars on their show. You could say MJF but even he could only do so much and Tony doesnât act look like making a top card of stars is his priority itâs just dream matches which okay but that only makes me want to the ppv and not the show.
Not only do they have stars, they also have potential stars in the making.
Tony just books week to week and no one can really elevate the product.
@@johnnysupreme5718 they have potential starâs but no real stars . They donât elevate people too much 50/50 booking and no clear distinction between top stars and mid card.
TK fucked around with his fan base and found out that there not going to come back not even the sickos. You can't have 4 to 5 weeks of sub par shows and one good show hoping they'll watch. Hopefully the number is better next week. Now I don't care about viewership if it's good it's good if its trash it's trash.
The problem for me is 80 percent of their roster is so damn unlikable how can I root for any of these people
To me they are uninteresting, they relay on name value and nothing more.
More likes jobber guys to me
I mean after 5 years it is painfully obvious some of them just don't belong on television.
Lol AEW is mostly tiny indy scrubs that don't translate to TV.......just look at young bucks.....do they look like real threats đđđ€Łđ€Ł

Jack Perry literally use to be on the shoulder's of a cosplay dinosaur lol. The Bucks kissing cheeks and immaturity is gonna fail.
I feel most sorry for is the AEW talent who likely saw that rating which is not good for morale because declining numbers creates uncertainty. That new TV deal is so vital to ensure they can still make a living.
Never thought I would hear Solo monster say Kendrick Lamar
Man's not lying
Does Tony not realize that he doesn't have to book the show but he can still get what he wants? Just let someone else take over, he'll still be the boss and have the final say. He could hire a Booker watch and learn for a few years then if he wants to take the reigns again then so be it but he doesn't seem to have the type of experience needed for a job like that. There's more to it then just making matches.
The results are in. Airing the Brawl Out footage was indeed their Fingerpoke of Doom. Viewership is down 39% since that episode. Meanwhile Raw just had their highest rating since that same month of April.
JDFROMNY said it best. There is no emotional investment in the stories in AEW. Every NXT has stories that the fans can get invested in.
People were looking for alternative from Vince and that came from HHH not Tony.
All due respect, Dynamite last week was not a great episode. Itâs been months since Dynamite has been great start to finish.
Thatâs why itâs hard for me to take Solomonster seriously sometimes. Idk how someone with his knowledge/experience has been able to see anything positive about this show for years.
People canât keep saying âbut the show is still goodâ no the show is bad and the ratings reflect that. The tv rating is a good indicator of the overall interest in the product regardless if people donât watch live tv anymore
the show is bad. They just wont admit it. if it was actually good people would watch. It's not rocket science.
The problem is the consistency of the shows. If you be good in one week even the next week it could be bad. It could be good due to the promos but it could be bad in the next week due to them focusing only on wrestling.
It doesn't help either that rampage in collision is focused as a type c series of wrestling where people just wrestle but for is it any story lies being progressed.
People will start to care if there is a wrestling feud that people are invested in people talked about hey man versus swerve Strickland. People talked about Brian Danielson versus Will osprey and their match. It's the consistency that has people turning off because in terms of the show it could be off and then it can be on with random stuff it needs to have a storyline that people can connect to.
The show can be good with bad ratings if the promoter consistently ruins the company's reputation and the last five shows sucked.
@@johnnysupreme5718 I don't know about that this recent show has been pretty good if you're talking about rampage and collision I guess?
â@waterhose8467 It's comments like this that makes TK think everything is OK and he doesn't need to change anything!:Fans making excuses every week for him is making the problem worse!
TK needs to stop worrying about Triple H and WWE for a minute and instead worry about reruns of the Big Bang Theory.
There just isnât enough going on in AEW to keep viewers invested. They put on great 4-5 star Meltzer every single week, but that is becoming a problem. Itâs one of those situations where you love steak, but if you eat steak everyday youâll eventually get tired of it. You still love it, but eventually you need a break from it. AEW is at that point now where a lot of people just need a break from weekly 4-5 star matches.
Also, why is MJF in a meaningless feud against CMLL wrestlers? This is the best Tony can do for his biggest name? Sad.
It's just steak and no sizzle.
As far as Meltzer is concerned, he is the Rotten Tomatoes of wrestling. Nowadays, when Hollywood gets a certified fresh grade, it doesn't mean much because movies are not as good as they used to be. Mainly due to propaganda. With all due respect to Dave, his grades are irrelevant because he broke his own rating system.
It's not just about how great a match is. The story behind the match is the reason why wrestling is the way it is.
Its all bad booking and the hype being over. The other problem with 5 star no storyline matches is in 2024 in the day of the internet WE CAN ALL GOOGLE A 5 STAR MATCH AND WATCH IT ON CZcams FOR FREE INC THE MATCHES THAT AIR ON AEW. SO WHY WHY WOULD ANYONE tune in live. Wana watch a Danielson or osprey 5 start match. Google it done. You don't need to watch it live
The difference between AEW and NXT in terms of viewership is NXT has consistent quarters. AEW got boost for the first 15 mins then downhill till mainevent.
NXT , RAW and Smackdown the lead in usually is lower than the actual show, they actually increase when the top of the hour is on, AEW how ever has so cold.
This was a nice and very accurate assessment. Dead on the money.
Tony: "Don't worry, guys. Everything's *great* ! "
*DING*
THANKS GUYS
This is literally WCW and WWF from back in the day, 25 years later. WWE has been on fire creatively
Yup. Isn't there a saying about how wrestling works in cycles, too? It's as if WWE is at it's hottest when they have competition... problem is they become so hot they kill off that competition and then they lose their drive. I hope history doesn't repeat itself this time around.
It's ok. Ratings don't matter.......or some stupid shit.
THIS [line of thinking]. lol - It's a diseased thought process.
But many do indeed take this angle.
It's wild & ridiculous.
What's AEW's goal?..To be a big indie promotion or be the best mainstream promotion?...It feels like they are on the fence trying to be both at the same time..TNA actually made a hard push trying to get to the next level but just took too many bad turns..Lucha Underground made their own path and stuck by it
They WANT to be WWE but ACT like a super indie fed. That's the issue.
They are def a glorified Indie. They want to make Indie Mainstream. Which is why they focus on match length, ridiculous stunts, and outdated gimmicks. If they wanted to be Major, they are not there.
If TNA back in the day had the funding that AEW has. History might be different right now.
@@kevinlee9929 TNA had a management problem...The talent was never the issue. Management had too many people moving in different directions..More money couldn't change the fate of TNA.
@@DeeRickJames201 Alot of people had no idea that TNA even existed. They didn't have the funds to properly market the product. Nor could they afford to take the show on the road. More money would definitely have changed their fate.
Tony Khan needs to hire Scott D'Amore as a consultant.
@mex4life: He can't hire Scott D'Amore because he has a noncompete clause in his contract until 2025.
Vince Russo should be there. Just don't have him on tv.
@@samuelpartin4628 I didn't know that. He needs somebody to help him out because what he's doing isn't working.
The company has been around since what 2019? The company isn't old but it shouldn't be having low ratings like this so soon in its life span
Lack of a creative team/booking team is a prime reason. Tony alone booking is a huge problem especially with all that talent, many of which they don't need I might add.
When the show began being built around the Bucks, Perry, and Okada, the goal should have been Okadaâs journey to winning the title as a heel, then having him go on a main event run against Ospreay, Danielson, Swerve, MJF, and Omega. You have probably three years of storylines built into that run with the end goal to make your next top guy. You can weave the Omega and Bucks storyline in, you can have the eventual anarchy in the arena match (which I think happened wayyyy too early), you can have Okada retire Danielson at Wembley or wherever in one last epic bout, etc. The anarchy in the arena match should have featured the next main eventer they wanted to push who would pin Okada and set up the final battle. Instead, itâs just a bunch of moments with no real purpose to any of them.
That requires at least a mildly good booker. Tony Khan is not. The hype is over. Everyone gave it a chance and now we are done after all the false promises.
IMO i don't think there is one magic bullet AEW's situation is a death from 1000 cuts. The have marginalized their current champion (Swerve) in favor of another company's champion (Moxley), they have 3 undercard champions so none if them mean anything, talent is pushed to the moon one month then forgotten about the next so fans don't get invested in them or the stories, 2 of your top stories are wink at the camera corny bullshit (EVPS and Jericho) one makes no sense at all (Ospreay vs his own faction even though they never really turned on each other), Talent is spread too thin between Dynamite, Rampage, Collision and ROH all seemingly having their own rosters, they routinely book 20 minute back and forth matches between 2 guys that has no reason to go 20 minutes thus nobody is seen as a star since it takes a top guy 20 minutes to beat a jobber. Formatting is terrible, they constantly jump from one segment to the next each in a different style so the whole show feels disjointed, the sound is atrocious, the commentary is bad, the list continues. it all adds up to Dynamite being a bad tv show, yes the matches can be good if not great but wrestling matches alone don't and can't make a good show.
As someone who has been cheerleading AEW since the beginning this goes beyond so much more than week to week good show/bad show discourse. There is an overall lack of faith in both the product and the people making decisions there. Just because itâs easy to point to the loss of CM Punk as a factor doesnât make it any less true.
Tony Khan let Cody walk and then fired Punk (deserved or not) only to have both of them show up in WWE to become important cogs in the machine there. Combine that with poorly timed debuts, signings that have fleeting importance, and booking decisions that leave you wondering who they are catering to.
ROH is a dead brand. Nobody cares about CMLL. Why are you wasting precious TV time on this crap when you need to be establishing AEWâs position in the market? And maybe the most important question of all: Why is the best pure heel talent in all of professional wrestling (MJF) being positioned as a babyface? Did they use his title reign to establish and elevate a plethora of babyfaces on the roster into the main event? No. And who did he ultimately end up dropping the title to? Established veteran Samoa Joe.
I want to love AEW. I always enjoy their PPVs. But the week to week television serves almost no purpose and doesnât build anything for them long term. Even when they âtryâ they find a way to miss the mark. The Wembley footage was absolutely shown as a way to attempt to paint themselves and the Elite as the babyfaces (it didnât) and then they immediately positioned themselves as heels anyway with everyone asking the relevant question of: If you were going to do business around this, why didnât you do it with Punk there? JFC. The shoddy decision making just goes on and on.
HOT TAKE: đ„
ROH would have been better under WWE as a selection on Peacock. At least it would've been a nice sendoff for them. Instead, it is a promotion that no one cares about.
I think one consideration is that they donât have enough separation and structure for their shows. Dynamite and Collision should be separate brands with distinct identities, rosters, and titles that cover the basic four parameters-menâs main event, menâs tag, menâs midcard, and womenâs.
Dynamite Titles:
World
Tag
International
Womenâs World
Collision titles:
Continental
Trios
TNT
TBS
For me this one is a bunch of issues:
The top of the card 2-3 years ago was the group of guys who mostly seemingly got to book themselves (jericho, elite, cody, moxley) or at least had a lot of control over their booking. Other than cody who did a lot to push new talent up the card the other top guys held onto their spots pretty tightly (Jericho still is clinging to it despite looking awful) and didn't give clean pushes to the younger guys the only one who has escaped that and truly been elevated from that time is MJF, now those older guys are injured or have go home heat and the younger guys are being booked by tony who is just not good at booking, or giving anyone other than orange a consistent push.
And to add to all that the storylines are just kinda bad and confusing; partly because of injury rates and partly cause AEW takes a month out of the year to promote NJPW, and partly cause i just dont think anyone talented is writing this.
I also think there are issues with the in ring product still: Refs look like idiots, to many crazy stipulations with no build up, a lot of injurys from the risky style, to many 6+ mans matchs, the whole womens division is still kind of a mess and sucks the life out of the show etc
I don't watch the show nearly as often as i used to these days more or less will tune in for mjf and stick around till something stupid happens which tends to be the next segment if im even watching the show at all.
PS: also to many factions like way to many pointless factions
âForbidden Doorâ has outstayed its welcome..
Pointless storylines with wrestlers the audience doesnât know about or care about âŠ
Clearly, All In's main event should be Bazinga vs Will Osprey.
Too many titles.
Too many matches featuring people who I have never heard of.
Stories involving characters I just care about as they've become formulaic. Prime example Malaki Black. Man has been in a team for 2+ years now. Give him a singles run. Make him the world champion. Have the challenger have to come over House of Black in his matches.
Speaking of which, god there are so many pointless stables.
I don't usually comment when it comes to wrestling. But for me personally i stopped wanting to watch aew from that one match where the guy was drinking someones blood? I don't remember who was involved but that was a turn off for me. The other one was when they released the cm punk footage. It felt unnecessary and it pretty much made me stop being interesting in anything aew related. I dunno but i do hope they can recover from this truth be told.
You mean John moxley? Lol he has in blood since the beginning of last year
â@@waterhose8467Hangman or Swerve. That was a bad match
@@lancethefilmguy9392 if it was a bad Match then no one would really talk about it as much as they did. It's supposed to be a Gore fest grudge match in a pay-per-view.
Compare that to John moxley he used to bleed every wrestling match that he did every Wednesday. Plus swerve and hangman had multiple matches.
â@@waterhose8467it wasn't a gore fest, it was a gay fest. Drinking another man's bodily fluid is sus as hell.
I suspect for a lot of viewers it's not just ONE thing but rather a bunch of things piling on, week after week, over the course of time... that just make the viewer lack interest. I'm a fan of AEW - I still tune in every Wednesday... but even I can admit the shows are just not as compelling as they once were. I used to be excited for the shows... that's rare these days. Product is cold.
Of course thereâs people online be it here, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or TikTok that are making excuses. Poor ones. And going to that tired line they love to use to excuse AEW drawing poorly âjust enjoy wrestlingâ
There are excuses and then there are legit explanations my friend. This kind of drop was absolutely shocking. I dont care if you are the biggest AEW hater or anyone for that matter. Nobody saw this particular show that was well reviewed by majority who watched it drop like this. That points to a far bigger issue than whether a individual show was good or bad. A drop like this indicates a systemic negative perception problem that goes beyond quality lackthereof of the shows.
Lol, of course they are gonna blame black people for AEW ratings.
AEW Has no excuse for this low t v rating, This is sat and also pathetic in the same time.
Inconsistent booking leads to a consistent declining audience.
What can they do for themselves? They seem to be happy, meanwhile they rating and attendance are at Record Lows.
I can't believe how much AEW dropped the ball on that Elite angle where they attacked Tony.
Like it really felt that depending on how they handled it. It could be a huge story for the company to start to drive some interest. But they've just done nothing with the concept of a hostile takeover. And instead are just using it to have hardcore matches.
I couldnt believe my eyes when I literally saw Tony on TV after the attack. No stakes or consequences to anything the elite does. No sense they're taking over.
Their biggest problem is the elite. No drawing power at all. And who give a crap about another NWO angle? No one. Especially with wrestlers no bigger then Rey mysterio đ. Who the crap are they going to scare? No one. Itâs sad their best idea for a story is them cosplaying the NWO as little people. Ever since they have became the main story of the tag team belts now this crappy angle the RATINGS went âŹïž because no one cares about them.
Sheldon, Leonard and Raj - Trios belt
Penny - TBS champion
Book it TK.
The Forbidden Door PPV would mean more if a splinter of the Bullet Club was in AEW year around with a storyline climaxing with the PPV.
MJF should get Wardlow and put the band back together.
That ppv doesnât mean anything anymore. They have people from other promotions wrestling on their show weekly. They ran that idea to the ground.
TK fired his 2nd or 3rd biggest star for Jungle Boy đđđ. And Collision is absolute dog shit since then. Maybe TK will implement 4-5 Learning Tree segments , that should turn this ship around , haha.
Are you okay?
"Thanks guys"
The main problems with AEW shows is that there's no compelling long-term storylines. The Elite taking over is not clicking. What is their end goal? They have no good long-term stories compared to WWE's Austin vs Vince McMahon feud, Sami vs the Bloodline, WCW's NWO hostile takeover, and Sting vs Hogan feud 1997. Another big problem with AEW's bookings is TK booked matches with no story build to it. Nobody wants to watch banger matches with no build-up and hype. And usually TK would give out free ppv level matches on TV. More importantly, AEW rosters are bloated that TK is not using 70% of the rosters on TV. He focused too much on his new top Indie signees than creating new stars. We've been complaining about those issues for years, and TK is not listening to the criticisms. He needs to stop booking his shows like New Japan. That formula does not work in the US soil.
âI guess summer didn't exist last year.â đ€Ł
The CM Punk footage did the damage. All they had to do was ignore that interview...
TK needs to pass those creative keys to someone else. As long as he's still in charge of that, things might, or will get worse
As i see it there were are a couple reasons for AEW's decline. I think the biggest is the loss of Cody. They seemed to of lost direction when Cody left, say what you will about him but he has a mind for the business. Another is what they do with established main eventers Look at Moxley and Danielson for example, they came in with no goal, let them do whatever they wanted rather it made sense or not, and now they are just another guy on tv. The second is establishing new stars MJF was doing big numbers as champion. But then made him do the comedy stuff, which tuned a lot of people out, and the ones that liked it were a minority of the audience. And Look at Swerve now, he should of been the world champion all the way back in December, they wanted to long now he's an afterthought at times.
And i put this separately, but I personally think the Young Bucks are and have been AEWs biggest problem. They aren't the big stars they think they are. They attached themselves to things to make themselves seem like a big deal, like the Bullet Club, but they are usually forgettable and unnecessary in most situations. And you can see they are all over AEW and people could care less about them. They are about as popular as Karion Kross.
They lost me when Serve won the belt and then didn't become the focal point of the show instead they put the clown bucks and perry over him just terrible
Sheldon Cooper is All Elite.
I feel like people are wrestled out. With so much else in life to steal time away people can only dedicate themselves so much to more than one company.
TNT should play a movie every week before dynamite to get the true rating
Crazy cause when i stopped watching they were doing at least 800k easy.
I stopped watching Collision a few months ago because its a worthless TV show. Dynamite feels like Collision sometimes, and that's bad. But its still the show that they have all of their biggest stars so I stick around as long as those guys are around
Since when is Juneteenth an excuse for low ratings? đ
No one said Juneteenth, some people just mentioned a Kendrick Lamar concert
@@ericsmusic5927if Kendrick Drew a quarter million people away when he didnât hit the stage until damn near the end of the show then that speaks volumes on how forgettable and missable AEW IS
Theres an article that actually said that the WEATHER is one of the reason. I dont know if dave said it, but BLAMING WEATHER is coping to the highest ORDER
@@fidzfidz I went to that show. Weather was humid as hell
Exactly. People was also using the College World series, the US Olympic trials and the weather as excuses
đ€Ł gramps waking up at 1 am to Conrad Thompson selling him bluechew
Listening to Solomonster cry is a good start to the day
These are the excuses for AEW's low ratings I've seen so far:
The weather being nice (đ€Ł)
Kendrick Lamar's concert in California (which happened like three hours BEFORE AEW even started đ€Ł)
The Olympic Trials (which are primarily in the daytime as they start several hours before AEW comes on đ€Ł)
Juneteenth (I don't know a single person who celebrates this as an actual holiday đ€Ł)
Black Panther being on TV instead of The Big Bang Theory (which proves that show is needed for AEW to have an average rating above 600Kđ€Ł)
Gee whiz AEW had terrible luck this week! Good thing NXT didn't go head to head with The Stanley Cup Finals or anything like that, I'm sure they would've lost the same amount. Oh wait....
Yep I have heard and read those same excuses that people was using. But there was another excuse that people was using that you left out and that was the college world series.
Honestly the biggest problem with AEW is fhat ghey still view themselves as the "competition" towards wwe and yes while they still are in some degree many of the audience don't view them as such anhmore. A majority of aew's original audience just wanted wwe to be good again and now that it is they gave up on aew, those are the fans aew has to try and bring back
When I watch wrestling, WWE, I literally turn it on 1min before it starts. The lead-in excuse is shameful. Sorry AEW but 5hrs of WWE a week is all the wrestling I care to watch, 4hrs would be perfect.
So you don't watch NXT...watch that and Smackdown and you get 4 hours đ
Hmm..and who might have been responsible for the false NXT rating numbers???
Once CM Punk did that interview with Ariel Helwani before WrestleMania 40 weekend, AEW/Tony Khan went spiraling & never recovered from it & then once they aired that security footage of Punk & Jack Perry at All In they completely fell off a cliff
For AEW to fix things, requires objective self-critical analysis and reviewing, in all honesty, what AEW does right and what it does wrong. The problem is, Tony Khan and the Elites (Bucks and Perry) exist in a type of echo chamber where they are confident they are NOT the problem, even though ratings show they are. As long as Tony refuses to see himself, or the Elites, as part of the problem, then things will never get fixed. As they say, the first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one.
There is no question Tony Khan and his social media antics have negatively impacted the entire company. It is a perception issue in that he comes across as knowing it all while also ignoring everyone that has real experience in the wresting business. He has not shown at all that he takes constructive criticism well at all so that is I think the biggest problem. The Elite also are not resonating either but again just like Swerve they arent dominating the show like you would expect they would in a takeover storyline. I chalk that up to Kenny Omega not being available being the biggest thing that is hurting that storyline. You have all that plus all these wrestlers in prime spots that nobody has ever heard of. Who is MJF facing again at Forbidden Door. All due respect to that particular wrestler but he is unknown working the biggest star in the company and it just feels beneath MJF. I also mentioned that I also think WBD the brand has just as big a negative stigma attached to it as well. That merger has been a disaster for the most part. I feel like every property they own is in trouble.
Itâs pretty obvious that triple h has done an amazing job and has brought back the audience that WWE used to have
I think it boils down to a massive lack of build & story telling to get the audience to care about anything. Who tf ever thought we'd ever care about segments with Chad Gable & Otis & Maxxine & Tazowa? Simple interesting stories go a long way.
Lol imagine everyone in the comments blaming Big Bang Theory when one of the biggest artists in the world (Kendrick Lamar) did a rare live concert on a national holiday.
Blame Amazon. Blame Top Dawg Entertainment. But donât blame that god awful show. đ
Part of the problem is wrestling has been around so long its becoming harder and harder to come up with engaging original storylines to keep viewers tuning in. Thats why i think wrestling as a whole could benefit from an off season like in between Thanksgiving and Christmas when interest in the product would probably be at a low away. Maybe if your WWE in between Survivor Series and start of the new year when you start building to the rumble. But yeah i do think time off would help. Also just the fact that Tony wears too many hats. As the boss he should be hiring people and putting them in the right places to do the job for him and actually give them the power. He can still step in and fire and bring in new people if their ideas aren't working, but basically, he should relegate himself to being the guy who just signs the checks and thats it. Maybe he can still be an authority figure on TV if that's what he wants to do, but he needs to let other people run the day to day and no, the EVPs dont count. I mean people whos specific and only job is to do that. Not wrestlers who also have matches to think about during the week
solomonster is a sicko
Im sorry but AEW Dynamite has been absolutely terrible for the last 6 months. The Bucks reign of terror, Jericho's learning tree, Swerves boring title reign, Orange Cassidy, and trampoline spot fests are killing their company.
What they've done to guys like Big Bill, Wardlow, Okada, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Ricky Starks is a crime tbh.
But people will still say ratings dont matter....unless they beat NXT, RAW or SmackDown
I finally found your channel đ
Youâre knowledgeable my guy!
Focus on your company. Not going after another company and or another sport like UFC
They will never recover from all the CM Punk drama, unfortunately
I've been watching since the first episode back in 2019 the last two Dynamite shows I just couldn't sit through it anymore. I've been kinda of forcing myself to watch the last couple of months but I can't do it anymore. What ruined AEW for me is a combination of things from to many belts to a bloated roster. But the simple answer is it's booking and it's boring storylines. I've hit the point where great matches are not enough I want great angles that keep me wanting to comeback. Also the old AEW it felt like anything could happen that feeling is gone AEW feels so complacent now.
When the programs primary focus isn't storytelling there is no compulsion for viewers to return week on week. We can drop in and out without fear of missing anything that matters...
Focusing on 5 star matches with the hottest free agents isn't a profitable strategy and AEW has killed all of its good will. Tony needs to Step down and they need to hire a real booker, as well as demote the Young Bucks into normal talent as soon as possible
Iâm not just saying this but honestly. I felt AEW took a major step back when they aired the Brawl In footage. Just seemed really minor league.
Yes the ratings are down and I think thatâs because the show just doesnât have a big direction, a major goal. 2021 it was Hangman winning the belt, 2022 it Punk and MJF and taking Max to the next level. 2023 was Cole turning on MJF. Here, thereâs nothing, just point A to point B.
The company needs to have that same creative spark it had in 2020 where they honestly were untouchable in week tk week tv. They donât have the same current dream match pumping insanity of 2021 but they need to go small. Invest in the new talent and grow from there. Viewers do come back, attendance does go up, look at WWE and New Japan (when Tanihashi became the Ace In the 2000s).
Iâm not nervous for AEW that their attendance is low. Iâm nervous for AEW if they think thatâs fine
ANNNNNNDDDDD this is why leaving the entertainment out of wrestling just doesnât work. They need writers and those writers need to craft interesting and engaging storylines that will make you feel like you HAVE to tune in weekly. This is why shows like House of the Dragon and The Boys keep folks coming back for more. Yes, wrestling is a bit different from those strictly narrative based shows BUT itâs tv nonetheless. Booking âdream matchesâ for the sake of it will not fucking cut it anymore. đ€·đŸââïžđđŸââïž
I think one big problem is doing more PPV's. They have been killing it on PPV & I think it's taken away from TV matches they use to build to.
I don't think they've had a story on the level of Hangman's chase and the Belt-collector since then. Swerve got the belt too late, imo, as much as I love Joe. While Okada is entertaining, fantastic even, his role is basically comedy right now. That's not going to hype people up either. The stories don't feel personal right now. There's no little details that pay off.
I really think TK needs to find a way to change the medias narrative on his company. Really since brawl out, a lot of people tuned out. His online rants rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. TK needs to be in a backstage role and stop being an on screen figure. I feel like the general perception is that AEW is for the marks and they do too many foolish things to be taken too seriously, Also - âthe eliteâ are just not NWO caliber.
Having said all this - the womenâs division is getting much better. The top of the card has some great talent. Matches are more entertaining than WWE. They need to find a story thst resonates and get the people we want to see on the show consistently. Also too many people from other companies and other belts we donât care about. It all dilutes the product.
One good thing about AEW is that all the Smarks who used to try to get themselves over on WWE television have moved over to them.
No more excuses from TK and the fans! They need to wake up and actually tackle their many probs and there are many! Biggest prob being TK and his fans complete denial of any problems! And i say that knowing that WWE is far from perfect too.
So the real forbidden door is whenever they have the cast of BBT Show up and fight for the transcontinental title or whatever
The problem is there but they can't ignore it. Someone over there has to acknowledge it. If they choose to ignore it it can only make things worse for AEW.
The ratings are proof AEW is a terrible product despite the fact thereâs idiots in the comment and the host himself that say itâs a good and strong show. If thatâs the case, why havenât the ratings increased? Why are there empty arenas on their live shows?
Since the beginning of time and it goes for any show. Quality does not always equal ratings. Anything when wrestling was at its hottest back in 1997 outdrew any wrestling show since 2010. That is an absolute fact. You can have great great shows that do poorly in ratings. That goes for any show. What the problem is here is there is lost faith in the product overall. Which means they lost the trust of a lot of their viewers. Until that problem gets fixed and they start making decisions that builds up goodwill again they could put on All Time shows every single week. It will not matter. When ratings drop like this its not always the results of just bad shows. Like every other wrestling show AEW has up and down weeks. No show ever except for Sopranos and maybe Breaking Bad never had a bad episode that turned off their audience. AEW is simply suffering from a systemic company perception issue.
Yeah people percieve that AEW is dog shit. â@@bryanmahoney3434
It's not proof at all... the ratings prove that AEW has been putting on shows that are not connecting with their audience and making decisions that push viewers away. That does not equate to a terrible product. That may be your opinion and you're entitled to that, but it's not fact.
@@yazr1712 Just because its not connecting doesnt mean its bad. It just means people dont care. Its like anything that is popular. I know so many people that just refused to watch Game of Thrones when it was at its absolute best. Refused. Maybe out of spite because it was so popular. Look at the Twilight franchise as well. Absolutely nobody understood why that ever took off. The examples are endless. Having vested interest in something does not always equate to being good or bad except for ones personal preference. But we also live in a age where people generally dont think for themselves when it comes to what they enjoy in entertainment. They allow stupid things like ratings or what other people think have a factor in what they enjoy or not. AEW has a lot of problems creatively but dont get it twisted they have feathers in their cap that will prevent it from being a truly unwatchable product. Its not even close to that bad but they dont have anything that is making them appointment television at the moment. Whatever they try and do its not gonna be an overnight fix. They have to win back the confidence in the tv audience. Not 1 individual thing or moment can turn it around immediately.
@@bryanmahoney3434 Agreed! Though I think one thing that would go a REALLY long way, is for TK to finally admit that changes are needed - and to get more help on the creative front.
Trying to gain back 180,000 viewers that you loss the previous week while trying gain additional viewers is an impossible task. It is going to difficult just to get close to 600,000 or more. God help them if they dip even further below 500,000.
To think Punkâs departure has nothing to do with this is disingenuous. Yeah they were doing 1 million or more before he got there but the way he left put a bad taste in peopleâs mouths. & playing that All In footage was the point of no return for some people
