Hearing him start to stutter when the woman walked in was the funniest
kaws expressions are subtle and priceless, especially when the lady comes out
when the naked woman came out i could feel the awkwardness..i could tell pharrell wanted to laugh im literally laughing as i type this lmaoooo. talk about second hand embarrasment.
That was an artistic exhibition in itself.
She was simply serving water. How we, the viewer or the guest, react to the nude woman says a lot more than the fact she isn’t wearing clothes.
Is she an objectived “hip-hop video vixen”?
Or is she liberated and taking ownership of her nudity?
...It’s ironic the Female-empowerment-types are being the most critical. I would think they would the normal iron of female nudity, particularly in mundane work/jobs (not just modeling, stripping, but simply waitressing)

This was really well done, I appreciated the commentaries of all involved. Personally I’m an artist in NYC and I’d very much appreciate guidance on this community of resources. So far I’ve been scraping for meals on my own.
Props to Pharrell. KAWS and David Salle are great together in conversation. I was happy to give the show a shout out at Comics Grinder.

This is tight. There's so much knowledge that can be absorbed just by watching certain artists like these guys talk. Its a pleasure and an inspiration to watch this.
this is just terrific....i lived in New York in 1961-2, and seeing this program by chance just connected me right back to the big city...long story short, i come to my studio in an anonymous village in italy to paint in the summer watercolor landscapes in basso pavese ---near milan---but i broke my wrist the beginning of june....so i've been on the you tube a lot. so glad to run into something with thoughtful comments and seeing the artist's work.... thank you...by the way. no caps because i am typing with only left hand

I've been a fan of KAWS, as well as Pharrell, for many years. I'm an artist from Jersey and it's a part of my bucket list to meet them both and do a few collaborations.

its amazing. he has a few really good books that kind of encapsulate everything (his first one is extremely hard to find) but he has 2 published by rizolli the second comes out mid-march and is based on the exhibit he is showing in Ft. Worth, TX.

It all goes to show how little art critique can matter. Even if some art piece is dissected, and analyzed, and defined and it is universally accepted to be a certain, that point of view STILL means nothing to the individual. Art often plays on the subjective experience and it could never be completely understood by someone else
What cracks me up is that all three of the guys ignore that the naked girl is naked.

Pharrell definitely progressed in his interview technique. This was good but more awkward at points, clearly KAWS was like "hunh?" at times.

When the naked woman came out to serve the men, it reminded me of the clips I saw of the '60's TV show. As a woman I can't help but feel unsettled. However there are a number of people who have no problem with nudity, it would have been interesting if a naked dude came to remove the glasses. Even it out so no one can feel offended.
+J. C. Henry i believe she probably poses nude for a living for life portrait's. When i was in college we had to do live nude painting (not the students) of course but we had a model come in, if anything most of us students felt more uncomfortable than the female and male did.

Pharrell is one of my idols. I aspire to have a career like his musically and beyond. He is a creative genius and just an all around good guy. BUT I think Pharrell is COMPLETELY missing the point by bringing naked women out to SERVE the men water in all of these videos and somehow passing it off as championing the beauty of women's bodies as if thats their only worth. Its not art its a representation of sexism and misogyny. I am assured that this is not Pharrell's intention, but I hope he sees how this type of imagery can be incredibly hurtful to women, and ultimately to men, and I hope he decides to remove it from this incredibly insightful, creative, and educational channel. Although I do find the interviews themselves incredibly inspiring as a creative. Just my thoughts. Peace.

Guy might've made some real waves if he'd been taught how to draw. For his kind of work you need those skills. He tries mightily to fake it, or to use his amateurism an aesthetic element, but the lack of skills dooms the outcome and always has. He's better than Schnabel, but that's like saying Syndey Greensreet was a better high hurdler than Eugene Pallette.

I just re-watched this video and have only now seen this comment you left. The comparison to a black male slave was made because if it was the case of a male slave there would have been uproar, all I'm saying is sexism and racism are equally as bad, and from your comments earlier (saying that they can't compare) you are saying that racism is worse than sexism. Personally I would have loved to see the unedited version of this. To me it was just a tease. haha If I was there I would have taken my clothes off and offered the young lady a chair, so she might feel more at ease. Guess when you have a lot of money it's easy to do something most folk couldn't do. Poor guys would call this porn, rich guys would call this art. And yes I think Pharrell did that to get a reaction from Salle or at least bring out his real self. Not much of a reaction by anyone except Pharrell.

And not only is she inexplicably naked, she is silent, nameless and interchangable. No-one asks her opinion on the discussion. She is of another class altogether. She is their servant. And all this is weird enough, but the fact that this is a series discussing art, an area where woman have been historically shut out of, and depictions of their naked body have been used as status symbols for men etc, (refer to my other comment).
