    The coconut oil hack is amazing. Guys, it WORKS. After 6 months of doing the pre shower treatment I can say I have seen way less breakage (which is didn’t know I have until my hair started feeling thicker lol), I used to trim my hair every 1-2 weeks (crazy I know) because the split ends drove me crazy because of my OCD LOL. Now I don’t have the need to trim my hair that often because the splits ends don’t come back until 2-3 months later (bleach and heat damage, can’t help it). I never invested in hair care because I always knew that hair is dead and can’t be repaired (fact) so that’s why I trimmed my hair soooo often
    FYI I have been using the Elvive coconut oil, which is cheap AF where I live compared to the OGX ones. I just ordered the Palmer’s one because it’s comes in the spray presentation so I am excited. Whenever I run out of any I just use plain coconut oil but I don’t like it as much.
    Also please note that my hair grows really fast, and it took me only 4 months to see the benefits of coconut oil, if your hair grows slower you may need even more time to see results. Patience is key

    Hi Abbey! Thank you so much for this in-depth guide to hair oiling! I began following your hair care advice when I started PRP for androgenic alopecia in early 2022. Then I incorporated the OGX Miracle Oil last autumn when I started getting my hair lightened! OMG, between the OGX Oil and K18, my crispy ends felt so much better!
    Earlier this year, I began seeing a new stylist, and she used the K18 Molecular Repair Mist before my lightening services. And it is so impressive because my hair feels healthier post-treatment! Many years ago, in cosmetology school, I attended Olaplex training, and I remember how my hair and clients' hair felt less damaged after chemical services. Still, compared to how K18 makes my hair feel, there is no comparison!
    Thank you for all of the hard work you put into your content! Cheers! ❤

    I love using coconut oil by itself between washes on my ends, and it seems to work better for me in the summer (maybe because it actually melts on my hands then lol). I mixed myself up a little vial of oil that's 1/3 olive, 1/3 sweet almond, and 1/3 sunflower, since those are oils I had on hand from making herbal salve and sink into the skin really nicely. I added rosemary and tea tree EO too. I have a really oily scalp prone to sebhorreic dermatitis, so I was reluctant to try oiling my scalp, but I heard that neem oil is really good for that, so I try to put it on as a treatment before washing for about 2 hours max and that has radically changed the quality of my hair and scalp! It's not nearly as itchy and irritated. Neem does smell pretty godawful on its own, so I dilute it with olive oil and add tea tree and rosemary too. I have the ogx extra penetrating argan oil which I like for my ends, haven't been able to find the ogx coconut miracle oil in person (maybe because you've made it so popular!)

    I just made a comment on one of your very recent shorts the other day about how pre wash oiling changed my hair 100% from massive breakage that was filling the drain to silky awesomenss that looks like I never had a bit of damage. Glad you are doing a video on this simple step that frankly is nothing short of a miracle. I used to oil my hair with coconut oil ages ago and my hair was amazing then. I got really sick at some point and stopped. Now I realized thanks to your videos that it really was the likely key to why my hair was amazing. And back then I colored it. but there was zero damage. Prewash oiling is really the key I think. That and solid conditioning.

    • @salapec3880
      @salapec3880 Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks! What is solid conditioning?

    • @adrienneg4231
      @adrienneg4231 Před 7 měsíci +3

      @@salapec3880 Just my way of saying that conditioner needs to be a priority. So the oiling is one part of that. The other would be using masks or really good conditioners. I found that masks are key for me. The other thing I did was use tresseme moisture rich conditioner or loreal ever pure conditioner after oiling it but just before I was going into the shower. It's a copious amount of conditioning, but it changed my hair in less than two months from crazy dry with vast amounts of breakage (seeing a lot of it in the drain every time I washed my hair) to next to nothing in the drain.
      My routine is wash twice a week. Pre wash oil both times. I use a blend of oils like avocado, grapeseed, fractionated coconut oil ect (had them on hand so used them instead of OGX, but OGX sounds like it works well). Then I use a hair dryer cap that I got off amazon to warm the oils which helps them absorb into my hair very well. It attaches to the dryer and I keep the dryer on the warm NOT hot setting and low air NOT high blowing air. This seems to helf the oil absorb as it's less oily when i take the cap off. Then I put in tresseme or loreal conditioner. Rinse it out, then shampoo. Then condition with a mask (though once every two or three weeks I do use loreal bond repair trie set). Then I squeeze the water out of my hair carefully in the shower and then with a towel very gently until it doesn't feel wet. Wet brush it, then gently squeeze out more water from it. Apply leave in conditoner. Finally, I use an ionic dryer on high to dry it. Takes maybe ten minutes. The dryer doesn't give off hot air. It's warm, similar to the heating cap but actually cooler.
      I really am astonished at how quickly this changed my hair to a nice healthy silky feel with next to no breakage. It even seems to have given some elasticity back to it. Since the only real change I made was to add in copious amounts of conditioning, I'm sure that is why it changed and probably so fast. So yeah, that's a solid amount of conditioning. :D

    Hello! I haven't seen anyone suggest this yet, but sleeping in a silk or satin bonnet can help protect your pillow cases and sheets from oils stains. It can also help prevent acne in the same way, by keeping oil off your face There are many types of sleep bonnets out there, and they are not just for people of color, anyone can use them! Highly recommend!

    Great video, I love the thorough explanation and reasoning for each step. I too did a lot of research on which oil is scientifically proven to actually work (surprised to find that most recommended oils aren't). I did find some studies on pubmed, where sesame oil had been proven to help with hair repair, uv-damage and hair growth.
    I myself use a mixture of coconut oil, sesame oil and vitamin E oil where I infuse dried rosemary into for my scalp. I use the coconut miracle oil for my mid and ends which have worked wonders for me.
    I recommend looking into sesame oil if you're ever looking for an other oil or if coconut oil doen't work you! English isn't my first language, sorry for any mistakes :)

    Thank you so much! You are helping me save my hair, and prewash oiling is the key i believe. Last year, i made the HUGE mistake of bleaching my gorgeous long curls and having layers cut ...i did it slowly thinking it would be more healthy, but no one warned me that bleach kills curls regardless. WELL fast forward to now, i dyed my hair back brunette because my hair has so much breakage and is coarse and dry. Nothing has helped. I have so much damage that i am past K18 working. But i have started oiling 24hrs before i wash. I not only use the oil you recommend but i also apply OGX Coconut Split end mender, then throughout the day i apply the OGX hydrating Coconut oil mist. My hair is so dry that it just sucks it up. This process makes my hair, after washing, silky and look healthy...which at this point i know its not...yet. You ma'am, have helped me so much. My confidence has been shattered bc my hair has been suffering, and your advice has been a saving grace for me. Thank you so much❤

I’m gonna build this into my wash routine every 3/4 weeks as I have a very oily scalp and hard water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes then massages it for another couple of minutes. Rinsed it out. Did another shampoo and rinse.. wait til you see how much your shampoo suds this time around on a truly clarified scalp.. it’s insane!
