Debacle vs. Mortar (Grudge Match)

  • After being knocked out of the competition on Saturday, I repaired Debacle and looked for anyone who was willing to do a grudge match or rumble on Sunday. There were no 3 pound beetleweights willing to fight. I talked the driver of Mortar (half of the 12-pound multibot Brick and Mortar) into fighting. With Debacle weighing half as much as Mortar, not to mention his ~30lb magnet downforce, this was a pretty mismatched fight!
    Thanks to David Small for the use of his handheld GoPro footage!

    Some questions:
    1. How long does Debacle's weapon bar last before swapping out?
    2. Have you thought of making a asymmetric blade for Debacle?
    3. How much does the weapon bar weigh?

    Those times when physics just gives you the middle finger. :) Mortar was crazy fast. Impressive that you were able to beat it through raw durability.

    Who needs wings when you can just have your buddy slam you into the wall so you can make your weapon into the ground hard enough, when doing so you might need better belts. When are you going to get your pilots licenses to drive this bot properly? Great fight, amazing luck in your half at the end.

      Evil Toaster .... this man has been in the sport for 10 years now at least, and has been successful with out of date bots.
      He is fighting a bot with a front wedge designed specifically to counter offset bar spinners.

    Very cool mate. Love your videos. What a tough bot. Guess you’ve looked into all types of ways to keep chain guards or channels to stop flying off. Cause more Damage than not having one???

      FaithfulMC beetles can be incredibly zippy, especially when you have a ridiculous drive train

    good fight, why do you keep the weapon spinning while flailing around and when the bot is gyroscoped on its side?

    • @TeamVelocity
      @TeamVelocity  Před 6 lety +12

      If I throttle the weapon down it still takes awhile to slow down enough to get the wheels back on the ground. Also, note that in real time these hits and ricochets are over in a flash so it's tough to react fast enough. Sometimes I keep it spun up on purpose, the weapon can be very deadly when it hits an opponent from the top and I'm vulnerable with the weapon stopped. As a famous builder once said, "If I'm spinning I'm winning!"

    Is Mortar a modified D2 kit?

    • @TeamVelocity
      @TeamVelocity  Před 6 lety +7

      No, it's completely custom and probably has 10X the drive power of a D2.

    bro, i know this bot is amazing with its blade spinning that fast but you are in the air half the time, this bot isn't heavy enough to handle that rpm, the bot is strong enough but it isn't heavy enough, long story short, you need to slow the blade down a little, im not a hater, i have watched lots of your videos and i participate in the 15 lbs class, i love watching and fighting, this is just some advice, you don't have to take it but maybe try it out, you never know, keep these videos coming there awesome

      The reason why Debacle was flying away half the time was because he was fighting a robot twice his robots weight and with 30 pounds of downforce. It’s practically like the blade was slamming into the floor at full speed. In normal matches, he would be in control much more.
