Foojer: I can draw a horse now, so let's use it all the time
The Iranian cataphracts are so epic.
yes the persian cataphracts alwyas have very heavy amour
Cause they are kind of the inventors and developers of the cataphracts .
Appreciated as persian
You mean Persian cataphracts? 😂
WOW, I looking to Goguryeo's 'Gaemamusa'(Cathaphract). IN HERE!
The good news is Korea, cataphract is not only in Goguryeo, it also in other ancient countries of korea such as Baekje, Gaya, Silla.
Because the horse armor relics have been found in the tomb of that country!
Should've thrown in the Jin dynasty too, those guys were beastly looking alongside the Parthians and Sassanid.
I love how you're dedicated enough to draw the people's facial hair and clothing even if it'll all just be covered up by the armor
The Arthurian one was good. The Sassanid is the best in my opinion, but ovecorse all of them are good. I really liked stuff that you do man keep up the good work :)
Sassanid one took ages. Good to hear:)
@@foojer the sassanid one was really great . Would've been cooler with izad vahram wings on his helmet though
@@foojer Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference at 7:16
Seeing hundreds or even thousands of these guys on the battlefield must've been both awe inspiring and horrifying
Nice, this channel is as good as ever.
thanks for the great clip foojer
Also nearly half of them are actually Iranian : Achaemenid , Greco-Baktrian and Selucid ones who were mainly raised from iranian people , Sarmation ,Sogdian ,Parthian and Sassanid Cataphracts
This collage on the end is really great feature
How annoying was it to draw all the scales?
Looks great like always.
Lamellar is way more annoying:(( you should try it in your art:D
Might the Arthurian one be a reference to Lucius Artorius Castus?
Also, loved that you showed your sources. Great work as always!
Yeah Artorius Castus is one candidate, a whole bunch of others tho like Ambrosius Aurelianus, take your pick lol
@@foojer Still his mother was a hamster and his father smelled of elderberries
Woah, whats this? Double upload? Day just got a whole lot better
Göktürk cataphracts during the 6th century would be cool
Hey, great channel man! Just a suggestion, might not even reach you, but it’d be cool to see an evolution of Cuman-Kipchaks through the ages. they had some super cool face guard helmet designs. They actually remind me a lot of how the cataphracts looked towards the beginning of the Middle Ages, since Cumania existed around the same time. Might be cool, but either way keep up the great work!
Amazing! The skill level is crazy good!
Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to more! :D
Welcome back!
Really love this new style ♥️
Great video as always, love your work and effort put into these.
And thus he rode a red horse, and he was given the power to take peace from the land.
The Parthian goes rockin' dude! That music 'tho!
I don't know which to choose, so I'll choose the Arthurian Romano-British fellow... as always :D
Impeccable choice sir:)
Romano British looks cool and all but I got to say I like the Parthian Iron man Vibe the best
Love it. Was waiting for a new video for so long time. Thanks
Honestly, it depends where the cataphract came from and also there were like 50 different patterns and types of helmets, armor, arm sleeves, etc. for people to choose from in antiquity. Specific cultures could get almost whatever they wanted if they had the money but they would mostly tend to stick to what most of the culture around them would stick to. For example a Parthian noble would buy armor and weapons/inherit armor and weapons that most other Parthian nobles did.
A Parthian could buy some Gallic chainmail or a Greek linothorax if they wanted to, but they tended to choose to look like each other. There are alot of reasons for why people do things, maybe someone thought that it was the best equipment around so they bought it because their peers were using that type, or maybe it was all they could find at the time. Also those who haven't used their equipment wouldnt have to replace anything so that is also a factor.
Scythians and other steppe tribes also had cataphracts and they wore equipment that is different in looks and design from Iranian, Persian, Parthian, Dahae and other peoples and tribes in the middle eastern area.
Love seeing u post again :) keep up the good work
I really like that you included both historical and literary sources!
Roman
Goguryeo
Sasanid
Parthian
Seleucid
Sarmatian
Egyptian
Arthurian
Byzantine
Best looking ones in my opinion
My favorites from most to least:
Goguryeo
Roman
Romano-Byzantine
Sassanid
Eastern Han
Arthurian
Tie between Sogdian and Seleucid😁
@@mitch7235 In the words of full house you got it dude !!!
Inlike parthian, it looks the most iconic one
Great as always!
Another great video, love the Persian and Mongolian cataphracts!
Tribute to the Almighty Algorithm
I enjoyed this one very much, thank you !
7:20 Lancelot was indeed a destructive force on a horse XD i loved the reference you deserve so much recognition!
Love this!
that’s quite an old horse
Goguryeo cataphract at the 3rd from the end is the ancient Korean cataphract.
Very Nice Job 👍👍👍
Kataphracts have been all over the world, yet everyone talks about knights.
Well it depends on your definition. Are all of those cataphracts? What constitutes a cataphract?
Man on horse with heavy armour and long pointy stick seems to be a very common idea.
@@paweandonisgawralidisdobrz2522 Fully armored guy on horse.
@@szarekhthesilent2047 that would include anything from a cuirassier, knight to a winged hussar to a samurai

Can you draw a Kipchak soldier?
The Cataphracts! Armored Mounted Warriors Before the Knights od the Middle Ages!
And Oh. Not to Forget There is an Arthurian Graal Knight.
@@jhudieltheone308 the cataphracts exist until the 11th century AD in the armies of the Byzantine empire . So they have some clashes and interactions with the Knights of the western Europe
I'm waiting for Part 4 of those Imperial Guard Legions!
The overview at the end is awesome!!! Mate you've gotten so so good with the shading!! Also, where did you get the music for the greco-baktrians and the ptolemies?? It sounds epic as all hell
all in the vid description:)
Nice
Cataphracts are taylor made for this channel.
You mean tailor made, taylor made would give you cataphracts singing break up songs.
@@dingliedangliedoodle9261 lol. True dat

Fantastic as always!
No mask on the roman cataphract (Clibanarii) tho :(
Can you do a video on 15th century byzantine cataphract
Wow gogurian catapracrs
5:56 고구려 등장
Parthian=epic
Civ VI music 😍
Nice artwork as always, but you forgot to include stirrups in them. As far as I know the assyrians are the only ones who never used any stirrups. I might be wrong tho...
Thanks mate. I’m not so sure about the stirrups, seems like the earliest they were used was the 5th century AD in China (tho early forms like ropes with loops for your toes were used earlier than that), and in Europe from about the 6th century
Gseht mega gail uuus ! Chumi grad luscht über zum Total war spilä :)) geil wers au wennd chönsch mol was vo de Germanische Stämme zeichne :)

Hey man I saw an ad for Rise of Kingdoms and they took your animation style for it? I just wanna let you know man
Thanks for letting me know! I’ve given them my permission
I respect the Prince of Persia music.
By the way ammianus marcelenius claims that the horse legs and stomach of the sassanian cataphracts where also armored
Anyone know which specific song was used with the Parthian one
It’s in the vid description
My favourite has to be the Seleucid. Are his helmet and greaves supposed to be made of copper? I haven't heard of anyone using it for armour in the past. Cheers.
Bronze:)
@@foojer Ah that makes more sense. I thought it might be copper because of the red-ish colour. Thanks for the reply.
where is the Armenian one? I thought they had cataphracths too.
A video about all sasanian warriors please
Peace be upon you

Parthian have it in 2BC not AD
3:58 what’s the music ?
Please do Indian infantry and elephants (excluding foreigners e.g. Mughals).
Iranians Were First Horse Archers and Horse Cataphract
Still Arabs Call us " Al Fars " Which Means Cataphract or Iron Horseman
Seleucid looked the best
6:40 what's the source for the horse armour?
i didnt base it on anything in particular, though i guess it vaguely resembles the horse armour on the Taq e Bostan relief of Khosrow II
did the byzantines actually use them or is it all theoretical?
Procopius doesnt seem to mention horse armour for the Byzantines (tho he does mention Gothic cavalry with horse armour), though an anonymous treatise a bit earlier than him does recommend horse armour for front-ranking cavalry. The Strategikon explicitly recommends horse armour. So it's probably safe to say that it was in use in this period (tho there isn't much artistic evidence)
Everyone else pretty much copied the Irani tribes heavy cavalry armaments and military tactics
Wasn't Eastern Han was Xianbei mercenary?
can you do the maharlika warriors of the philippines
