  • ATPL Principles of Flight - Class 18: Propellers.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Welcome to Class 18 in the ATPL Principles of Flight series.
    A spinning propeller is used to generate thrust and drive us through the air. They share a lot of the same concepts as regular wings with a few key differences. Although not too hard to understand there can be a few tricky questions in the exams regarding propellers so it is worth giving them a bit of study so you don't get caught out.

    Great video! I've always confused prop theory and get the questions wrong frequently (for POF). This has clarified things considerably! Thank you

    The music in the back ground is so distracting, try to lower it little bit more, beautiful and easy to understand video thank you, i needed it

      The best volume for the music would be no volume. I can't understand why anyone would add music to a lecture. Rhetorical question: When you go to school/university, does the instructor have music playing during the lecture? And for those that do need to have music playing during a lecture, well, they can easily put on their own music, of their choosing, at home.

    Loved the explanations. And change of AOA based on speed and rpm make sense now with the diagrams, thanks. (Nice tube too!)

    I've watched 20 of these videos, and no one has mentioned that the blade you are drawing at 2:57 is cut in half and I'm looking at it from a side view. I could be the odd one out on not seeing it correctly, but everything makes sense now. I now notice the nose cone as well. Wow, I'm not sure why I didn't realize this.

    amazing video bro, just subscribed so that i do not miss any more of these. Got some officials coming up and this was by far the best explanation I have had. Are you planning on doing any videos for flight planning?
    By the way, I liked the music in the background!

      Flight planning is probably going to be after performance and radio navigation. I will put a poll up and see which is the most requested though!

    2:30 at positive AoA the greatest thrust is produced at 75% of the tip radius, that's why this is the reference point

    Thanks for the excellent video! I have a small remark though, I think you made a small mistake on 6:39. You meant to say higher tangential velocity instead of RPM. RPM, which is an angular velocity, is always constant throughout the whole propeller blade, compared to the tangential velocity which varies depending on where you are on the blade just like you said.

    I don’t get why the relative wind comes from behind the propeller, and not right in front of the plane of rotation, like a normal wing
    Thanks for the videos !

    • @atplclass
      @atplclass  Před rokem +1

      It's not coming from behind the propeller. We have twisted the propeller blades so that the angle of attack is now negative rather than positive which creates a force the other way. So instead of normal thrust we get reverse thrust.
