    What I LOVE about this channel is that most other DIY channels either build something WAY too complicated or something WAY too boring! 😩😂 I’ve learned a ton from this channel. I’m literally heading to the hardware store tomorrow morning to pick up my materials for this one 👀🤗

    This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection czcams.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

    This is exactly what I was thinking for my kitchen! We took out the wall that sperated it from the living room and there are two corner supports posts and a pipe that comes from the condo above. We were going to to do sheetrock finish but this is going to look way better with our industrial pipe shelves with pine shelving!! Thanks!! Awesome video 🤩

  • @robhimself79
    @robhimself79 Před 7 lety +57

    Definitely should miter the end cuts. The stain looks totally off on the end grain. You're using a dual bevel miter saw, its literally the best tool to make those cuts.

    • @sjntube
      @sjntube Před 7 lety +10

      Yup. 45 those ends and it will dress up nicely.

    • @charleseleeiii
      @charleseleeiii Před 7 lety +10

      robhimself79 Miter cuts would have been an upgrade no doubt, but also a good bit more work. I thought it looked fine as is, I would just make sure the long boards were facing the center of the space. Also, could eliminate the need for miter cuts by maybe painting instead of staining (possibly use some filler to conceal the joints before painting?). What are your thoughts on that idea?

    • @robhimself79
      @robhimself79 Před 7 lety +3

      Charles Lee absolutely painting would be an improvement. I agree 100% the staining brings this project down so much

    • @charleseleeiii
      @charleseleeiii Před 7 lety +3

      robhimself79 staining always seems to be a controversial topic. I try to envision the project in various colors or stains and sometimes spend quite a bit of time studying the pre-stained or pre-painted stills.

    You guys did a great job. Those butt joints drive me crazy though. Just an FYI for anyone else who doesn’t have a compound miter saw, you can adjust the blade on the table saw to cut the miter at the same time it ripping the width. That is for the video?

  • @WoodUCreate
    @WoodUCreate Před 7 lety

    I don't mean to be critical, because I love watching your channel. 1. Glad you finally got a nail gun. All those projects you do with hammer and nails will be so much easier. 2. You really needed a spot of glue. With humidity expanding the wood, those nails will very easily pull out.
    Not going to critique the artistic talent, but not my style. I just like to see the project being done...;)

    (Using one of my finish nailers) I once fired a nail into a piece of plywood while building drawers. Nail hit a large hidden void just under one edge, glanced off other side of void, ended up stuck point first in shop drywall across from me. I was wearing my safety gear, no problem. You never know what's going to happen.

Otherwise great job I will do the same for my basement Three (3) huge takeaways first I can keep the existing post and not expose the metal jack post; second, I can save the $150 for a Remington gun to nail the 1x6 to the metal post and finally a solution to finishing off the top and bottom of the post and matching the color to my plank flooring. Awesome, thanks

    The wood almost binded in the table saw WHILE you were standing directly behind it, in the direction in which it would fire back! Very dangerous. Make sure the wood is pushed up against the fence, always. If wood binds toward the blade it could come back as a high velocity projectile, there's videos demonstrating this.

      For outside columns I prefer California redwood, teak or western red cedar for their rot resistance over treated lumber. I was able to use milled, kiln dried wood from my neighbor's felled trees. Most lumber yards have them, and sometimes you can check places like your local Craigslist for milled boards. They will list 3/4 inch boards as 1 inch. There may be other suitable woods that are more economical and attainable where you live, but check for rot resistance....and kiln dried boards are less likely to warp and imo easier to work with.
