$130,000 SHOWBOAT PBA DOUBLES CLASSIC
Showboat Bowling Center, Las Vegas, Nev., Jun 7-11, 1986
Cook, Aulby Keep Title In Family
Burly Steve Cook and his brother-in-law, Mike Aulby, combined their talents to successfully defend their $130,000 Showboat PBA Doubles Classic title . . . but some exciting moments left the title in doubt until the final frame.
It was Aulby who threw the clinching bell, successfully converting a seven-pin spars, to help upend Ernie Schlegel and Hugh Miller, 205-195, to pick up a check for $25,000, the same as last year when they also won this title at the Showboat Bowling Center.
The top-seeded duo was forced to wait through three earlier matches, which also furnished some excellent bowling. In the opener, Gary Dickinson teamed with veteran George Pappas to oust Rick Sajek and Mats Karlsson, 207-179.
Miller and Schlegel were next up and they rallied to a 234-222 win over Dickinson and Pappas with four closing strikes.
The next victims of Schlegel and Miller were strong-armed John Gant and Joe Salvemini. When Gant failed to convert a 2-7 split in the eighth frame, Miller and Schlegel's five straight strikes late in the game resulted in a 219-203 win, and set the stage for the championship game.

Congratulations to Aulby and Cook. A bad break for Hugh Miller in the 10th but that is how bowling goes. The sister wives of Aulby and Cook are gorgeous. Candi Cook is amazing. Thanks for the video.
Ernie Schelgle was nearly unbeatable on tv.
