- We welcome Zach Broyles of Mythos Pedals from Nashville, Tennessee to chat about how he got into the industry, his build methods and of course hear some great tones from the Susmaryosep!, Lark, Chupacabra and more…
Life too short for long CZcams videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Dan and I are delighted to welcome Zach Broyles to the show, founder and owner of Mythos Pedals. The brand is a relative newcomer to the pedal world, yet in the few short years he’s been up and trading, Zach has built a great reputation for quality and tone.
In this video we talk about how he got into the business; his previous job at Carter Vintage Guitars and of course his approach to building pedals. We also get a listen to his two latest pedals; the RJ Ronquillo Susmaryosep! and a prototype of the Rhett Shull Lark… among others.
Massive thanks to Zach for making time during his vacation to come in and chat. We’re looking forward to the return visit to Nashville!
Enjoy the episode…

Zach is the man, I love that guy. Great playing dudes!
Rhett Shull great to see The Lark getting some attention along with those Novo guitars.
Rhett! Cool pedal geezer. Much respect to you. :0)
I had a heart procedure yesterday, aside from seeing my wife when I woke up, the next thing I was looking forward to was watching TPS here in recovery. Thanks for the company guys!
Ha! Wishing you a very speedy recovery Jon! All best sir!
That Pedal Show thanks guys!
That is some endorsement.
I hope you're feeling better Jon!
Mythos Pedals thanks! I Got home on Sunday and am doing well.
Next pedal idea - Chupacarjay?
Bro...just got my susmaryosep last night, played 3 hours straight! Thanks man! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hi guys thank you for keeping me company during this quarantine ( I am Italian and even though I don't live in the core of the corona virus spread all country is in red alert to try the stop the virus)... and for giving me the opportunity to just enjoy some pedal lovin' of course:)
US: Italy, you call that a panic?
Soccer moms that spend 90% of their time on Facebook enter the room. PANIC! BUY EVERYTHING!
I would call it staying at home and getting bored but that’s what we have to do. ( shopping food is allowed so there is no point in panicking for food)
Valerio De Vito stay safe 🇮🇹👍🏼
Dai che ne usciremo
Lockdown now starting here in Austria aswell, sitting at home hoping for new TPS content soon!
I was not prepared for Dan's beautiful playing with the Lark. Hit me right in the feels, delicious and emotive. Brilliant episode alround though!
Guys, thanks for featuring Zach! I got to meet him at his booth at the 2018 Summer NAMM in Nashville. He's absolutely the nicest, coolest guy. I demoed the Golden Fleece mini and High Road pedals with his help. Wrapped up that trip with a visit to Carter's Vintage Guitars where I bought a Golden Fleece mini.
Dan, you really need to play that Les Paul more often! Those were some seriously touching sounds. And awesome playing!
Ah, cheers matey :)
Zack: "I don't really get into anything with single coils" Mick: "let me just grab something"
Mick's facial expression at Zach's comment had me in tears 😂
LANNNNNNAAAAAA
I'm Filipina (in addition to being American, German, and British) so I love that you guys have the Susmaryosep! on the show. :)
Zach seems like a pretty cool guy. Maybe his lack of formal training has really led him to some great circuits in that Keep It Simple Stupid style. Like he's stopped trying to guess what the next trend will be and just building stuff that he and his friends like & are looking for. If pedals sound good, look cool and are built to last, the customers will come. I wish him much success.
I will always treasure that I am now the proud owner of such a beautiful and unique instrument featured on my favorite show on CZcams from one of my absolute favorite builders and content creators
I really like the body shape that Novo came up with. I spotted Zach's guitar and instantly knew what it was. It's not easy for a new guitar brand to pull that off while still being relatively 'normal' looking. Not 100% sold on the headstock, but there aren't many things you can do with a headstock that haven't been done.
Yes agreed.
Seems very reminiscent of old Silvertones
@@ththejackjumper Yes, I see what you mean, maybe the straight cutaways are a nod in that direction.
Someone said the headstock looked like a duck and now I can’t unsee
To me it looks a lot like an Ibanez Roadcore
I went to Carter's to have my Gibson model A Mandolin appraised, and add a K&K pickup, since I play it some with a group. I remember thinking, 'I hope that young man knows what he is doing.' It turned out great! Wonderful to hear Zach talk about vintage instruments, and his pedals. Really great sounds in this show! Some gigging musicians call it NashVegas, but it sounds like Zach is in with the good crowd!
You should call it "The Mandalorilin"
Jesús, María y José!!!! Surprise expression or immediate answer when someone sneezes. It is often said by Latin mothers. I remember my mom and my grandma saying that when I was a little kid. Great pedal. I have to check it out.
Rodolfo Fernandez when I was learning spanish in northern Spain as a kid my friend’s mum taught me that you sneeze once they say “Jesus”, twice “Maria” and three times “José”. I asked what happens if you sneeze four times and she looked at me dead Pan says “ pues, Estas enfermo”.
r.j. ronquillo is a monster player. Everybody should check his channel if they haven't already.
Yes dudes, if you dont know about him, just stop everything and go there.
Truth. Totally agree.
Hell yeah! You lads are all fantastic, thanks for getting together :)
My god The Lark is incredible and Dan's playing on that one was marvelous, great show guys !!!
Just watched a ZZ Top documentary the other night and was blown away. My knowledge and introduction was based on the 80’s videos. Now after listening to those early albums, so many things are making sense. Like buying some Mythos pedals! Great show! Stay safe and keep well!
Good to know that there’s some kind of community that is cool to each other out there. I love these pedals! I didn’t really know about this brand but I am glad I have a clue, looking forward to trying it out! Great job guys!
I met Zach briefly in Nashville at a Joey Landreth gig the day I bought my Novo. What a day in my life that was! Unfortunately, I couldn't spend any more money that day on the Highroad Fuzz he was selling there along with other Joey's merch (being quite broke but happy after the Novo factory visit :-) But one day I'll get one of your pedals, Zach!
Everyone laughing in silence behind the guitar audio is always my favorite part of this show.
Finally, a Novo Serus Guitar is on That Pedal Show, I just love them
Gregory Stoner yessss!
What a pleasure to listen to Zach Broyles, such an open-minded, refreshing approach to pedals. Really enjoyed the show.
Zach is a great guy- and this was a phenomenal episode!!!!!!!!
Thank you all for this!
The Susmaryosep! is going on every Pinoy's board, mine included.
Whole time I was convinced, that Lark is my favourite pedal today, up to the last jam, where Dan killed it on the Collider ...
When Zach scratched his guitar with his fingernail, I actually shouted "OH!!" at my screen!! Hahaha
The most rock n roll thing ever.
Fantastic conversation. I don't have much interest myself in designing pedals, but I LOVE conversations about craft and expertise. I really love the TPS episodes that mine the expertise of guest (and Mick and Dan of course) --- regardless of what it is. And Zach's pedals deliver such great tones. Thank you for all you do!
What a genuinely nice guy, damn good player too! Much respect for Zach, his high road fuzz is hands down my favourite pedal right now, always on-everything you need on the volume knob goodness. Looking at the Chupacabra now!...
Would be insane to get Matt from 1981 on the show. He may only have one pedal out, but it continues to sell well and his approach to the design (and guitar playing, honestly) is really fresh in my opinion. Growing up listening to Relient K (his band) made me want to play the guitar.
I recently bought the Herculean V2 which is the basis of the Susmaryosep. Couldn't be happier. It works great with all pickup types. After going through many OD's, I am finally done. There is some kind of irony in the Lark; a pedal to make a $3k amp sound like a $100 amp.
Awww man. What a terrific guy. Awesome show gents.
Wow what a cool episode. Great chat, cool pedals, and rad tones!
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Wow Zach, ALL your pedals preserve a strong note! Deep approval.
What a great episode. Start to finish, great sounds, great insight, super wonderful!
Favorite episode in a long time! Well done boys. Zach is legit
Met him at Carters Vintage in Nashville once, really friendly guy!
Fantastic chaps. Another brilliant and fabulous human delivering innovation and sonic goodness.
I realise now how overwhelmed I was at the Guitar Show with how much was there that I didn’t really make the most of the day. Seriously should have spent some time in Zacland!
GREAT EPISODE!!! All the pedals sound great, but the one he built for RJ sounds extra killer! Thank you guys!!!
What a wicked cool bloke! Loved that ep, glad mythos are doing well!
Awesome sounds today, lads. I still have "guitar face," and now I'm worried it's going to stick that way just like mom said when I was a kid oh well, could be worse. Thanks to Zach for coming on. He seems like a great guy. Cheer fellas, great show again.
I love that presence Mythos pedals have workout sacrificing the body of the sound! Well deserved episode!
Mick! Your reaction and facial expression was priceless during the question to Zack regarding the fuzz input impedance...too funny! Lol!
Maybe someday we'll have RJ on the show?
YES
That would be way cool!
RJ is one of the few review channels I can play without getting looks from the wife after 5 minutes.
Plus RJ is so funny! We would hear many a great bursting laughter moments from Dan, on that episode, for sure (always a TPS highlight)
And Sean Pierce Anderson
This episode did not disappoint! Such killer sounds!
Well Zach, now I REALLY can't wait for my Lark to appear on the doorstep! ;p
Great show guys, some awesome tones and you were all having loads of fun. Cheers.
This episode was great ! :) Thoroughly enjoyed.
Oh wow!!! They sound sick!!! I have the Argo and Mjolnir and are killer! I think I’m gonna be ordering the chupacabra and the susmaryosef! Wow great show guys! Zack is the man too! Super nice guy!
This episode was worth the wait. Mythos pedals are amazing. Dope dipswitch demos pin btw
Great show boys, very interesting and fun. Cheers Zach - great gear, love the RJ pedals: Rhett’s is cool too
I had to watch this one twice! Great episode!
Sweet baby Jesus I’ve been waiting for this one!! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, what a show! Some amazing tones and Zach seems like such a nice guy! Just finished updating my board with my first Quatermaster and might have to spend another shed-load of cash and start again!! D’oh... it never ends!
Cool guy and all of his pedals sound great. I wish him tons of success. Great episode guys!
Solid dude and awesome tones. The Collings sounded great with the chupacabra. Great match.
Thanks for sharing, guys.
Cheers
Fabulous! So glad I’ve got a Lark on order.
Great episode! Lovely sounding pedals.... and that Novo... wow!
I really enjoy these shows with the pedal creators! Great sounding pedals 😄
This was a great video! Great job guys!
I've had several dealings with Zach via email and Instagram PM and he seems like such a great guy, always willing to help.
His pedal kits are awesome, fully recommend anyone to have a go if you know how to solder. I have the Fuzzy Face and it actually knocked my ThorpyFX Veteran off my board when I finished it. Also have the Linear Boost.
Mick and Dan, you should totally get Zach to send you a pair of each and do a show where you build them!!!
Very nice to see new pedal builders on the show!
Zach’s stuff is awesome. I have the High Road fuzz. Highly recommend.
The story I read was that the Gibson marketing people insisted that the new humbucker have visible screw adjustable poles because it was to replace the P90 as their flagship pickup. The adjustable poles on the P90 were one of their 'selling ponts' so the new pickup had to have them too. Seth wasn't keen because he had designed the humbucker with 'identical' coils to have as close a balance between the coils as possible for maximum hum rejection, but he said 'Gibson paid the (wage) cheques, so I did what they wanted'.
Oh, nice!
I'm glad GIbson won that argument. I always adjust my pole pieces to get even volume across all the strings. The strat pickups get their fixed pole pieces ground down...OCD maybe, but it is one of those things that affects your playing style and with more than 5 guitar's I try to keep the playability differences to a minimum.
Great episode guys!! Zach is such a treat!!
Love The Show Guys You Rocked It Zach 👍👍🎶🎶🎸
I remember I went to Nashville from Norway in 2016 and dropped by Carter to look for a new cheap guitar. And was blown away when I was allowed to try some of the prewar gibsons and martins they had. What a really nice and welcoming store. Amazing people:) I also had a look at the first burst! The most expensive guitar I've ever seen to date.
Actually I think it was zach that showed me around?
So great to see/hear Dan's les Paul!!
I love the amount of gain and love the range of tones from the gain as it is. With more gain it will really change how I feel about it. It’s the pedal I’ve wanted the sound of for so long and I will be crushed if it has more gain. If more gain is wanted or needed, another pedal can be added for that effect for gain stage purposes. I love you work and hope I can get this pedal for sure! Thanks man
The Rhett Shull pedal sounds really great. Killer!
I have been a big fan of Josh’s pedals for a couple of years now ever since I saw Joey Landreth using them. I hope to get my hands on a couple of them someday and test some tones for myself. Great episode guys! Another interesting fact about Josh is his injury to his fretting hand and subsequent need to come up with a different style of playing in order to make the guitar work for him given his physical issues. Having had hand surgery myself I think it’s very cool to see someone overcome any physical difficulties to continue to chase awesome guitar tone the way they see fit. Cheers.
Good to see friend Zach at TPS ... cool Novo and pedals everyone should have at least one of his amazing stomp box creations !!!!
Yes, yes, yes!!!! Love my Mythos pedals!
I purchased a Wildwood Edition Mythos Mjolnir Overdrive about 4 months ago.
Amazing pedal, sounds fantastic when placed at the front of your pedal chain, in front of other drive pedals.
Just brings everything to life !
Zach was very helpful in making my choice as to which version of the Mjolnir would be best for what I was looking for.
Highly recommend Mythos pedals !!!
😎🎸👍
Always awesome!! The Les Paul rocks and so does mr dan man
Be still my beating heart... that chupacabre is amazing! Really digging all the tones today but that thing is special.
Damn...every one of those sounded fantastic...this guy's got good ears
Excellent show! thankyou!
That Positron Collider made me cross the streams. I’d buy one.
At the end the clouds part and the choir voices said...ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! And the Sun shone through....
Zack you are a class act, keep pushing forward and thank you for your creativity!
Just bought a Mjilnor? The gold one we can’t pronounce!
i have both of his pedal kits for the boost and fuzz. love them will have to get the Lark soon. very nice and top quality stuff.
Those pedals sound great and great together. Well done.
That's a glorious Mythos tone you've got there! Very Joey Landreth feeling.
Headphones people :) Quite possibly the best tones you've had in that room!!! Those amps together oh my gosh :D
Susmaryosep!! Cheers from the Philippines!!
32:10 He's so proud of himself. Haha
Cheers chaps, really enjoyable episode. Wish I'd been in the room for the three outro tones, sounded pretty exceptional this end. :)
Zach knows his dirt/fuzz! I’m for sure ordering a chupacabra
I met Zach at the Chapman event where he gave Rob the pedal. Super nice guy.
The Lark is one of the coolest looking pedals
Great show guys, great pedals and great tones. For some odd reason about halfway through I got really excited about Philip Sayce's new album coming out soon, and a little bit of wee escaped. Well it is 4am and I'm at work watching the show, plus I'm in my 40"s so bladder control is on a down hill spiral from now on LOL.
In one word "Brilliant"!
Bought a Golden Fleece today for a build and then found this vid. Nice to “meet” the chap who designs and builds them. I was after an od/fuzz that could be used via the guitar vol. The fleece was just the tool - with the range I need.....one knob to rule them all.
Jumpin Jack-in-the-box Batman! Awesome juicy thick lucious yet defined musical tones!!
Killer episode! Bravo! TV is dead - guitar youtube is all ya need!
Love his pedals! Have an Earlking, and the Joey Landreth Mjolinir on my board. Covers lots of sonic ground, and stack superbly together.
Great show & interview. Zack makes some amazing pedals [damn good guitarist, to boot]. REALLY like the SusMaryOsep [SMO? Maybe JMJ]. Have to save up for that. I like to mod pedals, being on a budget. I also really like great ones, right out of the box. Per usual, have to LOL at the 'thumb's down'. What's not to like???
I'd love to think of something witty or have an interesting question. I dont. Just want to say thanks Mick and Dan for another great show. Mythos is now on my buying list, had heard of them via JHS but your interview/jam gives the whole brand a face and a value. I'll keep buying my tshirts when I can, strings when I need them and a superchat when I can. You guys are doing a service for pedals builders/buyers, players and people who enjoy good quality content. Thanks, dont know what I'd do if yous stopped 👍👍
Thank you Gary, mucho appreciado!
10/10...perfection, pure excellence and any other term or phrase that equals HELL YEAH!!!
Dan + Chupacabra + Lar = EPIC...Same for Mike and that Positronic thing...Uau
What do you call a group of larks? An exaltation.
Dan proved that. I liked how that pedal put a small amp sound into a large amp.
One thing i gathered from Zach and the ethos of Mythos. Is that that player isn't dependent on the pedal. The pedal isn't dependent on the player, but the two are dependent upon each other. Symbiosis. Is that a Greek word?
Great episode guys, thanks.
