The kit used in this video comes with a patch lead that fits most major brands of radio. It has either a 3.5mm jack or a bare cable to crimp or plug in to the required output from the aftermarket radio.

You may need an aerial adaptor for your FM radio signal but other than that the CP2 VX52 will work your new stereo and work with your steering controls.
PJs projects Appreciate your reply. I ended up going for a different kit, one from Connects2, an all in one kit, purely because of what was available in store at the time. Your upload was really helpful when it came to the general install and prevented me from making some errors. There's only a handful of Astra H aftermarket head unit installs on YT but none as good as this one! Thanks for your help and keep up the good work.

Fitted a decent Pioneer double din unit with the steering wheel controls. Any idea how I am supposed to change the clock on the display above?
Without a expensive display adapter it's sadly not possible,but most new radios have clock built in.
do you have to have the steering control for this to work? i tried installing a double din and it doesn't power on at all :(
Generally for the astra h you need to tap into the cigarette lighter 12v to get power there is already a female spade connector on the loom

@@bidsalamandermlp6265 my problem is my astra has a start button so when you turn off the engine its the sameas turn off the ignition completely so you cannt use the radio unless the ignition is on

Thanks for the video, very helpful. A question though, If installed correctly should you be able to listen to the radio with the key in the ACC position like you could with the manufacturer radio? Mine only comes on when the key is in the ON position and just wondering if this is normal?

I’ve used the cp2-vx52 on my 2009 Corsa, on a JVC kd-x472dbt radio, it works perfectly my only issue is that the steering wheel controls don’t work, I have tried manually reprogramming the steering wheel buttons but still not responding, all dip switches are set up for vauxhall corsa d 2009 & for JVC stereo, any thoughts on what the issue could be, I have used bullet connectors to connect the wire from the radio to the wire coming from the small connector cable coming from the control unit.

The airbag has a slight gap behind where it mounts to the pillar so its possible to tuck the cable behind it and then run down the edge of the pillor.

The unit is a Kenwood DPX-7000Dab and is sold for around £150 at most automotive retail outlets. As for fitting you could ask the store you purchase it from or contact your local car shop for help.

Yes the same parts would work fine with that radio. Just be sure to buy a DAB antenna for it as the Pioneer models do not come with one.

Did you have to wire in a ignition switch cable to power the sterio? Not sure why but the only way to power my radio is with a ignition switch cable.. but then the controler interface doesnt power on -_-
The connects 2 version of interface has ignition switched power out and so does not require a ignition switch power feed. Others or just connecting the radio without an interface will require a switched supply from the fuse box or as some people do on that model take a power feed from the large thick cable that goes to the rear of the heater control panel (please note this is not what I would do).

what are the size dimensions for a radio/screen. I've just bought a 1.9 diesel astra and I want to get a screen put in.
You need what is called a double din unit,these have a standard cage size of 113mm but can be used with a cage as small as 103mm in height.

How you can open hidden menu when changing CD from original to aftermarket. On original CD you nead press setting boton and hold for 5 sec to open hidden menu?
Once the original radio is removed you can't.

did you piggy back the live feed from the fuse box?
Hi.
With the interface I used their is no need,the interface gives you a ignition switched feed as well as a constant feed.
However if you need a switched feed the correct way would be to fine a circuit in the fuse box that is switched. You could 'bodge' the switched feed from the thick red power wire from the rear of the heater panel(mentioned in the video and pointed out to help).
Can you help ? Some of the options in the settings menu are greyed out ? How do I get over this ? Please . Also the unit doesn’t allow me to change between functions , when I’ve got the digital radio on and switch to Spotify it won’t allow me to go to any other functions. The unit is a pioneer AVH-X490dab . Please help thanks
Well it could be that you have it set to Apple play instead of universal Android(Apple play only works with Iphone) or from what you describe it might be faulty. If it lets you go from DAB to Spotify and then won't go back to another source something is not right.
Two things to check 1.Make sure the microphone jack is in the correct socket on the rear. 2.Have you either connected the green wire from the 490dab to the handbrake switch or earthed it(crimp it to the black wire from the rear of the 490dab).

You certainly do know your onions mate . I’ve been digging around on forums and various sources. (Mostly American) and the parking brake cable is mentioned a lot ! I’ll have to do as you say and connect these. Have you heard of or had any dealings with a bypass cable ?
I had an app on my iPhone which seemed to be causing the fault with not being able to flick through functions.

Great help, however I've fitted a single Din and it doesn't switch on or off when the ignition is turned on or off? What am I doing wrong?
Only three wires will effect power,black(earth),yellow(power) & red(power) so seeing as the only one you have had to add is the red power cable I suggest you start with that one and make sure power is getting to the radio. Double check all your connections and the fuses.
PJs projects I've connected the red cable to the red cable coming off the cigarette lighter. Is that right or am I doing something totally wrong?
I would suggest finding a switched live at the fuse box but as a test pop the heater control panel out by pushing the two metal tabs upwards(radio needs to be removed to see them). on the rear of the heater control panel you will see a large connector with a bunch of wires,find the thick red one and tap into that for a switched power. If your radio powers up you then know your radio is working ok. Make sure to then find a switched accessory circuit in the fuse box for a permanent fix.
PJs projects it works fine but have to physically turn it on by the on/off button. It just doesn't come on when I turn the ignition key.
Interestingly I followed your idea and put the red power cable to the red cable that powers the fan control. It now turns on and off with the ignition. However the memory wipes every time!? Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Some of them do. Was an optional extra so the majority probably don't.

How does the dab aerial work? Is there no way of adapting the existing one already fitted in the car?

The dab aerial sticks to the window screen and has two connections,one is a simple reception plug and the other is for power,this is connected to the electric aerial output of the radio which is normally the blue wire. I have seen a couple of items described as converters for normal aerials but these tend to be very low quality and do not give a good reception.
Anyone going for the increased quality gained by installing a dab radio should not skimp on the aerial.

I guess the window aerials are cheap enough, I just don't see how they'd be better than the ones already on the car, apart from compatibility issues etc..
Think of it like this,converting the Astra aerial is trying to go around the problem,fitting a £15 dab window aerial is curing the problem.
You see the Astra aerial is designed for analogue signals where as dab aerials are designed for digital signals.

Yes the original is powered,it has a booster built in the base section.

Yes works fine,only the time and radio station goes blank with a new radio,but most aftermarket radios have time on the display anyway.

Yep pretty much the same for single din but with a suitable face plate panel.

Yes any brand will go in fine because all radios are of a standard size,either single din or double din.

You can buy a display adaptor from a company called Connects 2 that will solve this problem but be aware they are around £80. Other than that your stuck with this problem on an aftermarket radio.

I don't know if you can help, but I have recently had a Sat Nav radio fitted in my 2008 Vauxhall Astra. Everything is working fine except we can't seem to turn the SatNav off. So the unit is powered all the time even when the ignition key is removed? If so that needs the power rewiring because it will drain the cars battery.

Yes that's normal. The cage that comes with the Sony unit is 113mm high but you can buy a 103mm high cage from Ebay, Amazon, Halfords or most car audio places.
Excellent video, but all it's really done is convince me not to bother trying to upgrade. If there's a person or persons responsible for this system they deserve a special place in hell.

Yes you would just need to buy an adapter that works with what brand of radio you buy. You retailer should be able to advise which one you would need.
