    This is the first video to say “as long as you have an even number of stitches you’ll always start with a knit and end with a perl” and this really helped me because I was starting with purls because I thought I had to since I ended with one 😭 and so my pattern was turning out super weird and I could NOT understand why 😭

    This was so helpful! The camera angle, the size of the yarn and the needles, and your slow and steady pacing all helped me finally understand knitting vs purling. Thank you so much! This was much more helpful than most of the videos out there!

    Thank you so much ❤️ everyone I asked said just k1, p1. No wonder it kept going wrong - they didn't tell me to move the yarn forward/backwards each time. Also thanks for showing how to know whether it's a k or p next as with kids I'm always putting my work down. I'm off to practice 😊

    I am doing a stocking stitch scarf, where I am doing one row of knit stitches, and then one row of purl. It comes out the same as this pattern, however keeps curling. Also, I doesn't alternating between one knit and one purl stitch create a seed stitch (or moss stitch)?

    • @spookykel
      @spookykel Před 6 lety +2

      You can prevent the curling in the stockinette stitch if you add borders to your work or if you use "blocking". It curls because the purl and knit are two different sizes, and you are alternating rows instead of stitches. The pattern they are doing in the video is ribbing, where they alternate knit and purl but do it on the same stitch on both sides. The seed stitch means they alternate where the knit and purl are on both sides. I hope this helps.

    I've been inserting the needle (for knit stitch) from the right of the loop to the back, you're doing left to back. Am I doing it wrong???

    • @ellaaarrrose
      @ellaaarrrose Před 6 lety +1

      Nero Wolfe because you knit one stitch and the purl one stitch which requires a different technique

    Mine just looks like the garter stitch… it doesn’t look like that

    • @woolandthegang
      @woolandthegang  Před rokem

      It sounds like you might be working in moss (seed) stitch instead. Both stitches alternate between a knit and a purl stitch, but it's how you work over an odd and even number of stitches that affects the finished stitch! So double check the number of stitches you have and which instructions your following, we also recommend checking the number of stitches again at the end of the row as it is very easy to add an extra stitch in accidentally which throws off the stitch pattern. Hope that helps 💖
