the only issue I have with both this song and one of the b-sides is the usage of "girl," it literally adds nothing to the overall story, it just exists to make the song straight, making it clash completely with the MV and the entirety of the mini album's concept. The girl isn't used as deniability, a way to repress their newfound sexuality in this indie-like hazy, muted, cold af looking film, it's just there to make the song straight when the entire plot is anything but. I still love the songs, libidO especially, but the lyrics do make the storyline fall flat on its face a bit because of that. Someone would say I'm overthinking, overanalizing or being too critical, but I'm gay so I'm right to wish for better, plus I like analyzing and this is media, I'm doing what they want people to do lol Still a bop though, they did amazing with the production and vocals, also the choreo is excellent as expected

Throwing "girl" in the lyrics when the video and the choreo are BLATANTLY gay and even a member in the making off said him and other member were playing a couple, was totally unnecessary. I guess they put "girl" there kinda like the boyz did in "Boy" despite the MV being about them crushing on each other all the time. Majority of bg fandoms are 99% straight women so if they want to keep their fandom they have to throw something hetero there for them, but yeah, I agree it was really unnecessary. Straight female fans like to see m/m skinship as a fantasy but at the end of the day they want the idol to be straight to be "available" for them and would drop them if some of them turned out to be really gay. There's been so many rumors of certain idols being spotted in gay bars and stuff and some fans are aware of that or suspect it, but then they're still obligated to sing about girls because fans want to cling to the possibility of them still being straight and "available". I'm still gonna consider the song as gay because the imagery of the MV is blatantly homosexual and they reference scenes of gay movies too. Throwing "girl" in the lyrics when the video and the choreo are BLATANTLY gay and even a member in the making off said him and other member were playing a couple, was totally unnecessary. I guess they put "girl" there kinda like the boyz did in "Boy" despite the MV being about them crushing on each other all the time. Majority of bg fandoms are 99% straight women so if they want to keep their fandom they have to throw something hetero there for them, but yeah, I agree it was really unnecessary. It still doesn't change that the video was unapologetically homoerotic.
@@evamariafloresgranados5041 And it's weird because the rest of the lyrics are really good, they're so creative, gentle and sensual in such beautiful ways and that line adds nothing to it, they could've just done an adlib, like an elongated "oh" or something, no "boy," just keep it gender neutral, everyone can relate and that's it.
That's probably one of the reasons for it, having the majority of kpop fans be women-I doubt they even consider whether they're mostly straight or not though lol-so it's the whole "marketability" thing happening, like why so many songs constantly have "girl" or "boy" in them for no reason, or some groups having their songs' translations being hetero despite the original Korean being gender neutral. Stuff like that completely excludes a huge number of potential fans, making them not want to bother, I've personally been turned off from certain artists because of it, I can't relate at all, and it's not like they need to pretend to be like me, I just can tell it's not genuinely straight, it's just to fit in a mold that may not actually be made for them. And it's especially confusing here because I'm seeing the gay and yet I'm being made to hear the "no h*mo though" lol idk, I appreciate them a lot for this and it's a step in the right direction but given how far we've come in the past few years even if not great every time I'm not totally starving anymore like I used to so I feel like I can ask for a nicer plate.
@@Vin.i exactly, they could've kept it completely gender neutral but like i said, one of the biggest reasons why groups always include girl (or boy if it's a gg) is to appeal fans of the opposite gender who tend to be the majority, especially in the case of boygroups. Straight female fans like to see m/m skinship as a fantasy but at the end of the day they want the idol to be straight to be "available" for them and would drop them if some of them turned out to be really gay. There's been so many rumors of certain idols being spotted in gay bars and stuff and some fans are aware of that or suspect it, but then they're still obligated to sing about girls because fans want to cling to the possibility of them still being straight and "available". I'm still gonna consider the song as gay because the imagery of the MV is blatantly homosexual and they reference scenes of gay movies too. The "girl" is totally irrelevant and out of the place so it doesn't have value for me.

Once I watched it a couple times and got past the point of fan girling over the gay...I really began to see how beautiful the video was. It fit the concept of the song and it was just art.

A bit about Phantom Singer though.... It's a vocal competition from the same broadcasting company that did Superband (Lucy, Hoppipolla, ect.). The point of the show is to create crossover groups (4 members each). So they gather people of every genre, usually opera singers or musical actors, but they've had rock, pop, pansori singer too, and the groups don't limit themselves to opera either. In fact they've proven to be quite versatile in genre, which I guess is the point of crossover.
