We’re Nick & Raychel, and we want to help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas, or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On this channel, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. So if you're looking for a channel about van life, alternative living, and budget travel, you're in the right place.
We don’t say the t in EFTPOS.
Ya😂
Some of us do
I do.
Only the people who don’t like Māoris and are deep down racist say the t in eftpos
Well, I've heard so many people put the T at the end for some reason. Yes, I'm from NZ.
EFTPOS was actually invented and first deployed in NZ. Electronic Funds Transfer at Point Of Sale.
I’m from Christchurch and we also say “maattteee you’re dreeaaaminngg!”
I'm pretty sure other countries say your dreaming to the mate part is more Australian to be completely honest lmao
i think that's a quote from the Australian film 'The castle'.
@@krustycloth who are you you obviously are not from nz
@@roberts5539 I don't know about that but as a Kiwi I can say a lot know it from a Mitre10 ad called "Sandpit" from around 2012
Edit: Turns out that ad was inspired by the Castle 😅
No we don't
We say a couple of these in the UK as well. It does make me laugh NZ, Australia and the UK and Ireland and like you said sometimes Canada have a lot of slang in common and America are the odd ones out but are the ones who make comments, my guy you're the odd ones out 😂
Hahaha yeup!
EFTPOS = electronic funds transfer (at) point of service!
*point of sale
@@gatecrasherkz7Yup. Point of Sale.
Yeah it's so silly to say EFTPOS not just "card"
It's a separate system from things like debit cards, not slang. However, we do tend to use it interchangeably!
@@RikkiCattermole in my extensive experience in NZ (Te Waipounamu at least) it's literally always used interchangeably 😂
Chur can be used to mean the following. Hi, bye, thank you, agreed.
Churr can also mean , Meaan as lol
Wicked good
Fun fact, it's also a town in Switzerland lol
Where are my other kiwis at
👇
I'm at Whangaparaoa. Sea views and boom boxes.
op shop is short for opportunity shop. it's the shop of possibilities 😅 you could find some cool as shit bro
@@missfoxylocksnz I thought it was about giving people dependent on charities opportunities.
Chur
“Yeah nah yeah”, is slang for yes.
“Nah yeah nah”, is slang for no.
“Too much or tu meke” is pretty much slang for ‘you’re a legend’.
Yeah Na.
Or na yeah...
@@ngahuiroimatanutira-langda4153 no. It's yeah nah
If you are from Canada it explains why you missed one of the most common things in New Zealand that is also common in Canada, and that is saying "ay" at the end of a question, statement, agreement, etc ay.
'Chur to the Chur' means extremely Awesome
Only in your head, bro
@@chrisevans1255 lol as if u know
Chur can be used many different ways.
How you use it, is what it means.
It can be like acknowledging something is cool, Chur bro!, just like Mean As, or it can be used to say you agree with something that someone has said or done or you are agreeing with someones opinion. Typically, it's used mostly by guys, but mainly by guys that use a lot of slang in their speech as a rule.
Yes you got it all right..... don't forget togs are bathers etc...i could go on. I now live in the UK where 55 years of living in NZ and it's slang has got me some goofy looks. So at the supermarket checkout I'll be asked how am I answer "I'm a box of fluffy ducks". The look I get makes my day....just being mischievous ya know lol.
EFTPOS = how u say it I just .... efpos lol
The shopping cart one never heard of
Eftpos isn’t slang. It’s an acronym. We’ve had cashless payment since the 80s as standard and it stands for Electronic Funds Transferred Point Of Sale.
"Carrying on like a pork chop" is a good Aussie classic for someone who's being a nuisance 😂
As a kiwi who worked in retail I can inform you EFTPOS is a acronym.
Electronic Fee Transfer at Point Of Sale.
It predates debit cards essentially.
I know chur as cheer. Meaning lots of joy = cheers one joy = cheer
When I moved to NZ years ago I kept seeing signs for WOF and I couldn't work out wtf started with W at a garage. I convinced myself it had to be wheel.... So my best guess was Wheel of Fortune 😂
"Livin the dream bro, livin the dream." Yeah, im on another 12hr shift at Countdown..😂
LOL we say that in canada too
Chur chur, cheers, cool,awesome
I've been in NZ my whole life, heard chur, never knew what it meant! Thanks comment posters, I learnt something.
Church is a positive acknowledgement. = Thank you, that's awesome, far out
"Chur" is like a reply to someone or a greeting its a little more broad than sweet as or mean as
'Yeah nah'
And,
'Nah yeah'
First means no (but either your initial reaction is to say no, or the topic overall is wrong but u agree with the spirit of it) and second is yes (reverse of previous)
Good job of learning the kiwi way
Chur is very Polynesian like chur bro is equal to sweet as mate 😂😂😂😂 love how you’ve picked it up ❤❤❤Kia Ora
Saying ae at the end of a sentence even when we not asking a question. Was an Auckland thing but now hear it in the south.
i am a kiwis i life in nz
‘Churr the boys’ - well done to that particular group of men
‘Churr Bey’ - hello there fellow citizen
Churr can be used for anything
Eftpos stands for electronic funds transfer at point of sale.
Chur comes from “cheers” I think. So it’s an affirmation. A way of saying “yes” or “thank you”.
EFTPOS is Electronic Funds Transferred at Point Of Sale. It originally mean being able to pay for things at a shop with your debit card. Interestingly, NZ was the first country to trial this technology. The technology founders launched this in NZ as a test market. Many companies use NZ as a test market for their technology. It’s small and easy to manage, is flexible for businesses, and if there are problems, then at least it won’t affect that many people!
We do lots of drug trials, electronics testing here. I work for a medical company and we often launch to New Zealand as our first country.
Chur derives from earlier cheh cheh, which derived from the even earlier colonial era when Chinese labourers worked the fields and mines in NZ. Xiexie in Mandarin is thanks, which became cheh cheh, which got shortened to cheh or chur.
@@chrisevans1255is this the legit etymology for chur? Familiar with cheh cheh, but never made the connection to Chinese, that's crazy if so lol.
Eftpos has a silent T!
But you got everything spot on 🤙🏾
Chur can be hello, goodbye, thats nice, shes hot, this tastes good, yes please, cheers and more.
Overseas its a way of saying "I see you my bro!" to a fellow Kiwi.
EFTPOS should be Universal. It stands for Efficient Fund Transferal @ Point Of Sale
yeah we just say 'tap' lol
@@gianttrance5180 or electronic funds transfer?
EFTPOS = electronic funds transfer at point of sale. Debit cards were an innovation which came around the end of the oughties.
Fpos, we don't sound out the t, and Chur is just basic agreement. It's more a noise then a word
Chur is like a form of Hello or wassup
Eftpos= electronic funds transfer point of sale

Alcohol is pissed out, so alcohol is just piss and we get on the piss when drinking. It works🤷♀️
so chilly bin is slang is it, didnt think it was slang, thats calling a car a car
"CHURR MAA MAORI!" response: "CHURR MAA PARU!!" (K.Roa Bush Slang)😅
It's EFF-POSS not EFT-POSS
Spot on, except we don't pronounce the t in eftpos
And our other native bird is the teke TUI sweet sound morning bird
The 'sweet as...' is used to say, no worries, you're welcome, no problem etc and is a variation of the idiomatic 'sweet as (honey)' or 'sweet as (sugar)' or 'hungry as (a horse)' 'big as (an elephant)...'etc, etc we just let people pick their own comparatives. 😊
'Chur' is informal slang and sort of means, thanks or well done or l appreciate that...

I took a pic of a “trundler” sign at a grocery store here! That’s where I saw it for the first time
😊😊yess that is us kiwis we also say yeah nah 😊 JAKX
Eftpos machine we just call the ATM lol
Eftpos (electronic funds transfer-point of sale) refers to the machine a shop has so you can purchase things. Atm (automated teller machine) refers to a bank machine where you can view your balance and withdraw cash without speaking to a person. Either in a branch, shop, or on the side of a building.
who’s we? you’re the only person i’ve heard say eftpos is the same as atm
@@jesuschrist9597 hey jesus i agree with jessica - in nz and aus eftpos is the shop machine that you flash your card on and will automatically take the payment - an ATM is the bank machine that you may see outside the bank and that is totally for deposit and withdrawal from your bank account using your card
