Barbra Streisand and Karen Carpenter have two of the most beautiful voices in music. They are both unparalleled. I believe that Kris Kristofferson wrote "Me and Bobby Mcgee". He was a great song writer. ✌🇨🇦
My absolute favorite version of "A Star is Born", the chemistry of these 2 in the movie was fire!!
Written by Streisand and Paul Williams. People have mostly forgotten Paul Williams but he was an accomplished song writer, singer, musician and actor. He wrote the hit songs "one" by Three Dog Night, "We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Mondays" for the Carpenters and "Rainbow Connection" for the Muppet Movie. Nominated for 5 Oscars and winning one. He has multiple Grammy Awards. A true legend

Paul Williams is an unbelievable songwriter. One of my favorite cult movies is Phantom of the Paradise, sort of a satire of Phantom of the Opera. Williams plays the bad guy and composed the score, which is fabulous.
You forgot Linda Ronstadt.
There was a studio version of this song as well, without him. This is part of the movie. Kris Kristofferson isn't really known for his voice, but for his stellar song writing.
I would highly recommend that you watch this version of A Star is Born This is the go to for me as far that movie goes

Barbra won her second Oscar for composing the music (Lyrics by Paul Williams) to "Evergreen". First woman in history of the academy to win for composing (What's up wit dat academy?) This was the third version of "A Star Is Born". The movie grossed $80M at the box office, making it the second-highest grossing movie of 1976.

I just found out that due to legal issues with his publisher he couldn’t use any of his songs! It can be a nasty business.
If you get the chance, give his work a listen in private. Too bad there's ones who try to silence an artist's work to the masses like it was intended.

Being a person of a certain age who experienced Streisand in her prime (in real time), it's nice seeing the new generations discovering such greatness for the first time, but at the same time, it's kind of tragic (if that makes any sense).
Maggie dearest, Barbra's version of A Star Is Born is a lot better than the latest version. You need to watch it and you also will appreciate that all the performances were recorded live. I had the honor of sitting in the row in front of her and Jon Peters at the premiere at the Mann's theatre West Wood Village in Los Angeles and to attend the following party at Dillions Discotheque. You will love the movie.

Kris Kristofferson, known for his songwriting, hit the big time when Janis Joplin recorded his song "Me and Bobby McGee" which was released in 1971. Joplin’s version of the song topped the charts and was only the second song to reach top-spot posthumously. I just remember it was the song we all sang on the bus coming home from junior high every day with the bus driver joining right in. 😀

Kris is an interesting guy, Rhodes Scholar so has a really good brain, supreme songwriter (Loving Her Was Easier) and a pretty good actor. At one time in a super group with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.
You should really watch this film. The real Star is Born for us older folks lol. Her voice is a chef's kiss every time.

The movie "A Star Is Born" was originally released in 1937...then again in 1954...a third time in 1976 (with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson)...and finally in 2018 (with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga). This is a scene from the 1976 version. The story always stayed the same, but the music changed with the times. This is Kris Kristofferson as the male lead. He is a star singer, songwriter, actor, poet, Rhodes Scholar and activist. You really should check out more of his work. He is a fascinating and talented man, and I've had a crush on him for decades!

I am a Black Muslim, but I will fight ANYONE over Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson!! I have adored her since childhood. And he made scruffy and rugged look delicious. Babs has aged wonderfully and I would love to be able to catch her in concert. ❤❤❤
Kris wrote "Me and Bobby McGee" performed by Janis Joplin.
Backnote: Kris was supposed to join in throughout the song. His character, John Norman Howard, got her character (Esther Hoffman) a recording session. She was an up and coming singer/songwriter in the film. When it came time to film Esther's song, "Evergreen," Kris was drunk (as usual) and he even stumbled in this scene, even shaking the mic stand. He forgot his camera blocking location and he bent inward to kiss her hand. Barbra instinctively knew he was blocking her face due to the camera angle (which made a half-circle move around them while they were singing). She gently pushes his hand to get him to stand up and stop the awkward view of the back of his head. She knew it would look bad onscreen. Then, while he was singing with her, his voice cracked and he decided to stop singing with her. He is supposed to sing harmony and when the line 'one love' toward the end, he shakes his head, 'no,' telling Barbra, 'I'm not gonna ruin your song. Sing your song alone." Barbra keeps singing, turning this into a special moment of filmmaking. Yes, it was sung absolutely live, from beginning to end. It was Barbra's idea to sing all the songs live, especially when on close up so the audience couldn't see that she's a lousy lip syncer. Uncredited from Bradley Cooper's version is that he watched Barbra's version several times and Barbra even told him to film the songs live, which he did.

Not only was it filmed live, but the crew guy said in a documentary that it was done in ONE TAKE. Amazing.
She says in her book that Kris was really shy about singing this that's why she kept pulling him in and yes it was all very spontaneous, especially the end.

Fun fact about Kris Kristopherson. He wrote Janis Joplin's hit, 'Me And Bobby Mcgee! The movie, 'A Star Is Born' starring Barbra and Kris is an amazing movie! Barbra sings most of the songs and oh my, if you ever want to hear the range of her voice, i highly recommend you watching it. It's not just her singing but both she and Kris were phenomenal with their acting and the chemistry between them was amazing! I hope you give it go and watch it. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Kris Kristofferon was not known for his singing voice, He was never married to Barbara he just acted in the movie 'A Star is Born, with her. It was interesting to here you mention that this is an older version of the movie. At the time this movie was released it was the third remake of the movie. Lady Gaga is in the fourth one.

That movie was the first time I had ever heard of Barbra Streisand. I went to go see Black Sunday and when it started, it was very violent and my mom told me to leave the theater and go watch a star is born next door. I had no idea what it was about but I remember thinking wow this lady can really sing lol. I was 12
I know I am late to the party, but..... There are 5 (I know, right) versions of "A star is born". I remember there being 3 versions but I could remember who was in each version. When I looked at Wikipedia and found this. The Evolution of A Star is Born: The film was originally made in 1937, followed by remakes in 1954, 1976, and 2018. Each is set in very different time periods, but the essence of the story remains the same: (an alcoholic) boy meets girl, makes her a star, and teaches her the price of fame.

Kris Kristopherson was a Rhodes Scholar and taught Literature at the US MILITARY ACADEMY...and he left and went to Nashville and was at a janitor at a studio and pitches his songs to the famous singers who came in.... he was a true intellectual as you will hear in his songs... and one of the truly great song writers for mostly country type songs....He was part of the HIGHWAYMEN quartet . Classical Barbra is a wonderful collections of classical songs, one of which i once learned and sang for the congregation at my church.
The scene is supposed to be one of a live recording where they get affectionate with each other in the movie.
Check out Barbra singing, "Prisoner", the love theme from "The Eyes of Laura Mars", which starred Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones!

Clip from "A Star is Born" (remake) movie of the late 1970s, that's Rhode Scholar Kris Christofferson (a great songwriting ). Recorded in front of the film to avoid noise. Kris not allowed to sing much, just like in the movie Yentle (when Mandy Patinkin, a FAMOUS Broadway Tony-winning singer, Mandy didn't get to sing anything!).

Hello, Hi, Longtime Streisand fan over here 😁😎 The shooting of this movie was plagued with problems both production & between actors. Streisand & Keistofferson were not always on good terms. I think that’s what we all pick up watching this and what makes it interesting. Barbra wanted to film the singing live but, imho, the solo she recorded of this track is sublime and, won her an Oscar 😎🥰
Btw, this was definitely recorded live for the movie! That’s why everything matches up. I have a vinyl of this movie that is live but slightly different to this recording. Barbra wanted to get away from the stylised studio singing of musicals from the 30s-60s so “insisted” on live recordings for this movie
Barbra revealed in her memoir that this was recorded live and that Kris kept laughing and messing up the take. So in this take you can see he laughs and tries to turn away but Streisand grabs his arm and makes him sing.

Barbra fought the studio heads over prerecorded the music whereas Barbra wanted to sing everything live on set. She won. So all the mic bumps and bops were intentional.
Barbra & Kris were never married but they were rumored to have had an affair during the making of the movie.

Lucy has also released an original song called, 'Brand New Day' which is awesome. Neither song will disappoint you. As good as these two

While Lucy Thomas is a very good singer, the covers she does of Barbra’s songs are done exactly the same way Barbra sings them. Nothing original. No one can compare with Barbra. 😁

The story follows a similar plot as all the 'A Star Is Born' adaptations. Actual singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson plays rock star John Norman Howard, whose career has started to be in decline, and he has started showing up in public and on stage drunk. He meets, and 'discovers', Streisand's Esther Hoffman performing in a small venue, and their romance follows a predictable path, especially if you've seen the newest iteration from 2018 with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
In this performance of _Evergreen,_ the small imperfections highlight how they are in Howard's private studio, are very much in love, and are not necessarily making a 'golden' take. However, the song (co-written by Streisand and Paul Williams) went on to receive multiple Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy awards.
The story of the movie is he Kris Kristoferson is the star and he falls in love with Barbra and she outshines him. Look at the pain on his face as he figures it out.
