  • On July 22, 2024 I solo hiked to Loomis Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. I started at the Fern Lake Trail, Bear Lake Corridor, in Rocky Mountain National Park. I hiked up to Spruce Lake and then the real challenge began. The social trail up to Looms Lake is in terrible condition. I already new that so I was mentally prepared. I had to crawl over downed trees and under trees on my hands and knees. You must have a GPS and great route finding skills to do this hike up to Loomis Lake. I must have checked mine 20 times to make sure I was going the right direction. This trail is extremely steep. I had plenty of scratches and bruises from this hike. I had a lot of fun hiking up to Loomis Lake. There are lots of Cutthroat Trout in Loomis Lake too. 10 miles and 2312 feet of elevation gain. Alltrails has the route to Loomis Lake and updated trail reviews. We use Gaia GPS app and it was spot on, even though it seemed like the 'trail" would suddenly end at times. I had to look for the next section. This hike is for very experienced hikers.

The last time I went to Loomis was 2019, before the fire. So glad to hear it was untouched still. Great video, thank you!

Thanks for sharing your adventure. I must say the video is stunning. If that is a cell phone your using it is a keeper. Good job filming it all and assembling a top quality video.

That was a pretty big day, especially with the bushwhacking. But, the reward sure looked like it was worth a few scrapes and scratches. It appeared you didn't encounter many people. Years ago my wife and I hiked up to Dream Lake in the early fall - lots and lots of people. I prefer solitude but I'm sure that's really hard to get in RMNP....it's even getting hard on this side of the mountain. Anyway, thanks for sharing those stunning lakes.

You are so welcome and thank you too. There was just the fisherman at the lake when I arrived. I asked him, "Do you know an easier way back?" He's said. "Yes the elevator over there." We both laughed. Just as I was leaving a girls group camp arrived. I was so impressed with these young ladies. They are the ones on the bridge when I was filming the deer in the creek. Thanks so much for watching. "Arapaho Lakes" will be coming out next Thursday or Friday. It's another remote lake located in the James Peak Wilderness.

I had never heard of looms lake. My guess is few people ever go there. Considering you are bushwhacking I’m surprised you didn’t wear long pants. Where was your husband for this hike?

I did bring pants but I didn't want to take the time to put them on. LOL!!! He was on his annual camping, fishing trip. Thanks for watching
