    What nice healthy plants. I have just started dabbling with the carnivorous plants and hope to get a cobra Lilly next year. I have some seeds in the drudge and Cobras are hopefully one of them!

    When it comes to general plant care I am eperimenting with the idea of trying as much as possible to imitate what would happen in natural habitat, So, you'd expect first that the"mother" plant would stay where it is, in its original media. It will presumably grow bugger and outward into fresh territory, and simply putting a plant that is getting cramped into a larger pot and putting new media around the edges would imitate that. Give the "pups" room to move away from home, or remove them as necessary. As the original plant exoands, it would get old and tired and be sitting in stale media, so probably eventually the "core" would die. What do you think? Of course you probably won't wind up with a lot of Brad's magnificent specimens...

    Hi Brad, great video again, do you think the country you live in effects the growing of carnivorous plants, I’m in the UK it can be hard with the change in weather. Thanks

    Can you run water when changing soil n pot for African Violets?

  • @nowwithantioxidants
    @nowwithantioxidants Před 8 lety

    Quick question, do you ever repot Drosera? I know that (besides some crazy ones like D. regia) they tend to have pretty small root systems so becoming rootbound isn't a huge issue. Maybe just to refresh the media and eliminate built-up minerals?
    Thanks for the great video as always!
    edit: and the same question applies to Pinguicula.

  • @timothyharris4180

    Another question, why don't you just fan the roots out then back fill with soil?

      Melissa Rivadeneira I saw them in the wild last summer, it was pretty amazing! Thanks for the comments, I read them all but don’t have time to respond to everyone. I’m lucky to live in a mild climate and have lots of different grow areas. Wherever you live there must be something that will be suitable.

    I liked the repotting though I dont have any cobra lili or any other carniverous plant and got tempted to get one carniverous plant. I like the cute pitchery ones but this is looking good too! what do you recommend for a beginner to grow along my orchids?

    • @isavalla1935
      @isavalla1935 Před 8 lety

      +MaryG Orchids Depends what kind of plant you are looking for. If u want a plant like the cobra lilies in the video, a good beginner would be a venus flytrap or a hybrid Sarracenia such as Daina's Delight or Judith Hindle. If you prefer the tropical ones, Drosera capensis, Pinguicula moranensis, Nepenthes ventrata, sanguinea, or Miranda are great beginner carnivorous plants

      @samuel5916 Před 8 lety

      What he said ^^
      Cobra lilies have perhaps the most complex and perfectly designed traps but are tricky to grow.

    • @ilovenepenthes
      @ilovenepenthes Před 8 lety

      Nepenthes Ventrata. Easy and forgiving plants. Also able to tolerate indirect sunlight and low humidity. It is also a tropical plant that grows vigorously all year round.

    • @kenjiro2676
      @kenjiro2676 Před 6 lety

      It completely depends on your environment. Don’t keep a plant that will suffer in your environment unless your willing to spend some money.

  • @samuel5916

    With winter approaching I'm worried about rotting out my first cobra lilies. How damp should they be during the winter? Some pitchers are developing brown spots so I need to recheck I didn't plant it incorrectly. It does have new growth coming out that seems healthy though, It's around fifteen years old and came with a 24 inch pitcher on it.

      Make sure the media is moist and not soaking wet. In other words, no water should drip out when you press on it. Don't let the media dry out. I usually mist the media everyday to keep it cool.

    • @BradsGreenhouse

      Robert torrence probably not outside, they take very specific care. Best to do a lot of research to be sure you have an environment that meets their needs.
