it's sad to see Ice Age go down this path. I would love to seen a darker and more epic sequel with a bigger budget. Not bat man dark, though.

If the animation studios were a family it would go like this
Disney is the father who is always a great strong role model
Pixar is the mother who cares and is a strong role model but isn't perfect
Dreamworks is the older brother who is doing great and takes He's job seriously but can slip up
Blue sky is the teenage sister who can do great work is kind off disappointing from the lack of anything new
Illumination is the kid doing amazingly well for himself but now he's going to high school he'll need to level up
Sony is the little goof ball that everyone is annoyed by but you'll be surprised what he can do when he tries
Liaka is the uncle who comes round once and a while who likes to scare everybody but is only doing decent in he's job

First Ice Age movie: a gripping story about different animal species getting together to return a human baby back to its tribe. One of the animals plans to stab them in the back for his clan/pack, but then develops feelings towards what was going to be prey. Its lovely, cute, funny and dark at times.
The sequels: Lolz pop culture lolz randomz lolz lolz kool katz.
I do like the sequels, but man do they miss the point of the original ones charm,

When you first described the plot near the beginning, I was honestly thinking The Land Before Time more than Ice Age 2.

Ice Age 1: Amazing movie. The story was gripping, the humor works well, the animation is pretty good for its time, and I like how fleshed out the characters are.
Ice Age 2: Things definately took a turn for the pointless.
Ice Age 3: A bit better, but nowhere near as good as the first.
Ice Age 4: Yeah, I agree with you, but what Gutt does in this movie is pretty intimidating

I would not call Ice Age 1's animation ugly, conceptually it is great, it is just dated.
Preston & Jaxon Studios hey now that I think about it, the animation is really good, looks realistic, character design is pretty good, but Scrats eyes are HIDEOUS. And the textures of the animals and humans can be mildly weird but still pretty good so now I rate the animation a 9/10
Maybe the fifth Ice Age will be the last. I have a feeling that they're only making it to give Sid an unneeded love interest like they did Diego.
Seriously, not every character needs to be in a hetero romance. Please stop this trend.

I think it speaks volumes of the sequel decay of this franchise if Ice Age 3, a movie whose script looks like it was penned over a single evening and two bottles of Bourbon, is considered by far to be the best of them all.

when I first found out they were making ice age four I saw a rumor where it was about the characters getting frozen and waking up in modern times on presidents day but I guess they went with this story instead 😟

Isn't it weird how Disney was the first company to make a computer animated sloth *a genuinely funny comedic relief?* Zootopia was a stellar film, and yes, I thought the bank teller sloths were downright hysterical. Meanwhile, Blue Sky has been milking this "franchise" dry for fourteen years, and the only time I ever found Sid *remotely* funny was in the first Ice Age film.

He had some funny moments in the second and third for sure. They were running low on ideas by movie 4, and movie 5 they just said 'Screw it! Throw scary in space!'

Technically, that credit gose to Pixar. Disney was the one to create the first hand drawn feature leangth film. Which was Snow White. Pixar created Toy Story. :)
I love the first Ice Age (one of my favourite childhood films), I'm indifferent about the second. The third is hilarious. I absolutley HATE the fourth one.

There's absolutely no reason for Ice Age 4 and 5 to exist, because the third film had a good ending with Manny found a new family and it ended the franchise on an impressive note.

I could give this movie extra credit for making what sid’s family looks like, because in the first three ice age films we didn’t know what they look like.

I'm sorry, but I actually liked this movie. I'll admit the story was pretty bad, but there are some interesting concepts and the influence from the Ancient Greek epic Homer's Odesssy and I love what they did with Scrat's subplot. The humor was also funny to me, although I will admit that some of the gross out humor was annoying and gave a more childish tone to the film.
Weird how they established that sirens exist in the Ice Age universe. But hey! If they established that aliens exist, I guess sirens can exist too !
Silvia's Reviews I agree with you! What annoys me about Ice Age is that there is so much you can do with the series. This one had the potential to be dark and epic, but they decided to make it more happy
Perhaps if they made a sequel where the main characters run into the baby human from the first one as he's all grown up, and make it a more dramatic story about, say, some conflict between the tribe of humans and the animals, or something. At least it would be something different and it would pay a bit of tribute to the first one (since it's obviously the best of them). And as long as they don't end up constantly referencing or stealing plot elements from the first one (which they probably would :-p ), I'd pay to see that any day.
If only Blue Sky read their social networking comments more often :-p

I totally agree with you. Scrat should have his own TV show. If they ever do make one, each episode should be three seven minute shorts combined to make a half-hour show, kind of like what they did with ''Tom and Jerry Tales''.
According to like the director or write I believe, Captain Gutt is evil/ captured Manny, Sid, Diego, and Granny because his family got taken away from his. But they didn't have enough time to put that on screen apparently.
The way he describes the plot to Ice Age 4 is so vague and crafted to sound like the plot of Ice Age 4, and only applies to the climax of Ice Age 2- not the whole plot

My opinion of the Ice Age franchise
Ice Age (2002) - okay, not really impressed with the animation, but still good characters
Ice Age 2: the Meltdown (2006) - a guilty pleasure of mine, has the best music and animation in my opinion
Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs -hilarious, best Scrat scenes and the dinosaurs were pretty cool
Ice Age 4: Continental Drift - terrible because I can't stand the teenage mammoths
Ice Age 5: Collison Course - a complete waste of time

The first movie: a tale about animals helping a baby find his family that contains funny moments with all the characters and some emotional effort thrown in.

I remember too, I was a great artist and drawed everyday so my art teacher sent me to a program at a campus for kids in elementary school.

Ice Age 1-3 were okay, but you need to stop! There is NOTHING new you can do with this franchise!

Ice Age: I loved the movie. It was one of my childhood favorites. It had an original and heart warming story, nice animation, and awesome characters.
Ice Age 2: It was a good sequel, it wasn't as good as the first movie, but it was still good. Sure, the story is kinda weak, but it had great animation and the same likeable characters and new characters.
Ice Age 3: It was just meh. I would say the movie is worth watching. But I wouldn't watch it again.
Ice Age 4: Now this is where the Ice Age series gone from good to bad. It had lazy writing, decent animation, and had forgettable characters.
Ice Age 5: This really ruined my childhood. It had awful writing, decent animation, annoying characters, cringe worthy humor, and the list goes on.

My thoughts on the Ice Age series aa a whole in a nutshell:
Ice Age: Great
Ice Age 2 The Meltdown: Pretty Good
Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Possibly my favourite of the Ice Age movies and the last good Ice Age movie of its franchise IMO. This is where it should've ended after what happened with the next two Ice Age films
Ice Age 4 Continental Drift: Very mediocre. Although I didn't outright hated it as many people did, this is where the Ice Age series started to overstay its welcome for sure. At least the second and third one served its respective purposes in the franchise
Ice Age 5 Collision Course: An absolute piece of shit! IT'S TIME TO STOP FOX!

This movie really missed a good oppurtunity to have Buck and Flynn conversing with one another considering how they were voiced by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Don't you think that's kind of a slap in the face for one of the most recognizable British comedy duos?

When you said, they would put their heads so close to the camera to do a 3D effect but they'd have a butt ugly face, was 6:26 an example?
I remember seeing this movie in the cinema once with my mom as a kid and to be honest I would've watched it more than once if it was scientifically accurate like the first three were and it wasn't trying too hard to be funny. The director of the first three movies didn't do this movie so I could tell that there was a complete tonal shift in terms of drama and heartwarming moments.

This is actually the only ice age movie I can stand.
Fox should do a movie about Scrat that explains his childhood, why acorns are so important to him and how he ended up in that block of ice at the end of the first Ice Age movie.
The thing with me is that this will be special in a weird way to me this was the first ice age movie I watched as a kid then 5 the 2 1 then 3 so yeah got a lot of stuff muddled up and despite its short comings I did like the animation along with characters they were good and since I hadn’t watched the other movies I thought everything was fresh.
I would have liked to have seen the humans in the sequals, maybe bring back the babie but older.
I thought Ice age 3 would be a good place to stop. Now I think it'll be the next Harry Potter, complete with 7 movies. (I think, I've never watched them.)

I am currently working on a spinoff series about Scrat for my channel. It will share some of the simplicity from the first film with 1 main character, 1 villain, and a few supporting and minor characters.
Actually AniMat there’s a difference between the plot of Ice Age 2 and 4, the plot you said in this video is in ice age 4 while the plot of ice age 2 is about the characters trying to survive a flood.
I’m going to have a really controversial take on this film, but here goes. I unironically do enjoy this film, which may just be a nostalgia factor from watching it when I was younger. Yes, it lacks in spots like characters, plot and writing, (and that one end credits song that just sounds… eh..) but I can still enjoy it in a sense. I certainly have other films ranked higher (5th sits right at the bottom, still.) but I can still at least watch it without getting too salty at everything. Of course, 3 felt like a good conclusion to the series, and this kind of feels better as just some extra story that comes afterwards. It may not be the best, but I just overall enjoy watching these films.
