Common scary movie method: give the audience a sense of comfort and trust and then rip it away from them. What I found interesting about this scene is that even though it got close to her it didn’t kill her establishing that this creature wasn’t going to kill her as soon as it had the chance but it was waiting for the right time.
yea if the creature killed her here, there wouldn't be another host to transfer to
Because I think that physically there was no creature there. Basically what happened is that Rose created the fake woman in his own mind. I think that this demon can t kill you physically but can only control your mind and make you commit suicide. If you think about it in the first scene when Lora was screaming and looking behind Rose she was probably seeing the same demon that Rose saw at the end of the movie, but Rose didn t. This demon takes control of your life by entering your mind and making you see and do things that harm you
it was waiting for your mom
Wasted opportunity since it could have easily got her to trip on the strairs and break her neck, thus fulfilling the supernaturals fetish of killing us whilst having it appear as an accident or the victim going insane or both.
what i find especially chilling about it is how well they achieve this fear factor with so little effort or effects, like it fakes you out so well throughout the film and makes you feel like you're going down the same pit of madness that rose is

LMAOOO
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lmao
Gosh, you just turned this horror scene into a permanemt comedy scene to me now
Lmfao
The most underrated thing about this movie is the Sound. The Entity’s footsteps have such a dramatic weight to them. I also love the small detail of the Therapist stepping on the back of the couch and it not tipping over when that logically should happen.
I was just sitting here thinking, “I bet I can find the word underrated in this comment section somewhere.” Sure enough, here it is. Apparently everything on YT is underrated because that word is in every comment section
@@Glitchfaction wow. What a great comment. I love the detail of them complaining about people using the term underrated. Such an underrated comment.
@@Glitchfaction the most underrated thing about your comment is that it's sooo underrated
I bet you’re a huge fan of “no country for old men”.
I noticed, in this movie that the main soundtrack was the absence of any score
@@Wetknees technically there was a score, it was just abstract distorted sounds if I remember correctly
I thought her smile was the most disturbing, maybe because it was at the least expected time, but it definitely was chilling. Also because her face very slowly and gradually transformed into the smile.
Q
It was the squinting the eyes man. THE SQUINTING OF THE EYES 😩 LMAO
That's exactly what I said when I first saw this movie.
@@highclassloser357it was both of those that made it more terrifying
1:01 that look of fear is just perfect.
yeah, the actress is so good
Yeah the actress that plays rose is fantastic
@@Isaacthebiggestmoviefan57💯💯
Rose’s actress’s fear reaction is absolutely brilliant acting. She’s an amazing talent! ❤
She’s Kevin Bacon’s Daughter
@@Outlawgurl24 seriously I hope she goes far. I found that out AFTER I watched this movie because I thought she did a great job. I was even more amazed when I found out because you always hear of actors getting their kids into projects, but many times the kids can't act. Not so with her. She knocked this one out of the park; the acting in general was very good especially for a horror movie. You don't always get good acting in horror, or when you do, it's usually just a few of the actors holding the whole movie up.
shes is fenomenal !
@@Outlawgurl24 her mother, Kyra Sedgwick, is also a talented actress. Somehow Sosie manages to look like both of them at the same time
For some reason I find it funny how the entity just sat there like, “Are you gonna, ya know, answer that?”
Me too.
it would have been funny if Rose says no i don't want to
I love how you can hear multiple voices when the demon says “almost time rose”
Unison
The voices of all her victims maybe
layering wow oh my god
@@Tired311 yeah I noticed lolz
I think this is related to the demon's true form. It is huge and has layers and layers of what look like stretched out human teeth then tries to climb into Rose's mouth, so the implication is that it's made of layers and layers of bodies and the latest victim is on the outside.
this is one of the most fooling, twisted & effective horror scenes ive ever witnessed.
I know a lot of people say this movie is a cliche horror film but I absolutely loved it. Some scenes were just so unsettling.
I've never felt anything like this ever before watching this scene. Chills with pressure in the back of my head. Wow!
At 0:56 there is just the *slightest* of a change in the therapist’s face from calmly waiting for someone to get off the phone to yeah that’s right, I’m the entity mother f’er.
Nice touch
A slight smirk there yeh. I noticed that too! Subtle before it emerges it's true colors!
It’s like she’s smirking with her eyes
This is more of a psychological more than a horror movie. I love the movies that are psychological. It leaves more of a lasting impact.

i’m gonna be honest the therapists smile is creepy but doesn’t beat the women at the kid’s birthday party her’s was way more terrifying
The girl that killed herself infront of rose was so scary tbh
Both smiles are the creppiest by far.
The security alarm system call was the scariest
The one standing outside when she looks out the window
This scene GOT ME SO GOOD! I got intense chills when she answered the phone and it was the therapist! 😱
Ye then you kmlw immediately that she’s sat opposite the entity and the moment unfolds. It’s such a well executed scene and that twist takes you by surprise. Very good movie.
Yeah
@thegreekpianist - Lynchian. Like in lost highway but creepier here
I admit I didn’t have high expectations of this movie and assumed it was just gonna be some generic, garden variety horror movie. Was pleasantly surprised though. The whole concept of a sinister physical manifestation of trauma that feeds on people’s trauma when it goes unhealed was pretty impressive and well thought.
1:34 the heavy footsteps were definitely unnerving. Even though it's masquerading as someone else, it's very presence is unnatural.
This scene absolutely scared me when I watched the movie! Honestly best scary movie in the world!
In the world? You've seen them all? Grow up!
@@DJTrickiMusic why so rude? I just like this scary movie, and I think it’s the best in the world. You might not think that, but you can have your opinion. All you have to say is, “I don’t think it’s the best movie in the world.” Simple right?👍☺️

Love how the Entity blinks after the first ring to get back on track, along with a few facial twitches to stay in character. It was so engrossed in Rose's fear that the mask almost slipped.
Human Xenomorph from Aliens scene at the end 😂
Yeah. Look at the saliva at the mouth
That would be Alien 3, when it corners her in a tunnel, and if course she's got an "egg" in her, so it gives her a pass.
😂
yep! the same studio who did the effects of alien did this scene
@@ereal2763 The monster at the end of the film immediately made me think of the "newborn" in Alien 4. Coincidence ?
This is just a flat out fantastic scene
A common and terrifying technique in horror storytelling: give the protagonist a fake sense of safety and security, and then, all of a sudden, rip it away from them.
I'm sooooo excited for the second movie!!!!
October 2024 🔥🔥🔥
One of the most underrated movies I've seen in a while this scene was arguably the greatest chills horror movie I've seen and there's another one coming too
Plain fact you think it is underrated, same as million other people across zillion comment sections means its not underrated at all, so you can sleep well.
To be fair most therapists are secretly like this…. Especially the ones doing relationship counciling
You’re right therapist are psychopaths! 😂
@@cherylharrison3789 🤣
@@cherylharrison3789GTA V wasn't parodying therapist, it was warning us.
'Almost time, soon to be ex lovers!'
Honestly, I thought the real therapist was sitting across her and the entity was on the phone, until the entity smiled.
An interesting clue upon several viewings of this amazing film that the entity is mimicking a person is the fact that they don't sound right. Notice when the therapist speaks her voice is almost slurred and distorted, same with Joel and the alarm system operator. Subtle, but very effective. Best horror film in a while.
You’re right that it does sound off. But the clip of them together on the sofas is so short that you don’t notice easily.
I've seen a ton of horror movies throughout the years and I still have to say that this movie (and particularly this scene plus the ending) is up there among the ones that got me the most. Demonic posession and dark attics and serial killers and supernatural monsters and all that other classic horror movie stuff can be scary, but Smile for me captures the most terrifying concept of all: you can never know if you're safe. You could be face to face with the horror at any time without knowing. Everyone you interact with could suddenly turn out to not be who they seem. You can never feel safe no matter where you are or who you're with, because from one moment to the next they might get that horrible smile on their face. At least in a classic haunted house type of movie, the demon is usually restricted to the house, and it's obvious when they posess someone, so you know where you're safe and who's on your side. In this movie, you never know, until that smile appears
its called psychological horror, dear
Exactly what I loved about this movie. I was uneasy from beginning to end
I totally agree with you, lotuzz7409. I love the paranoid atmosphere that impregnates this movie, from the beginning to the end. The way the movie director plays with the appearances (reality/delusions) is highly effective. The spectator can never be sure who is who in this film. This perpetual uncertainty climax is an essential part of the effectiveness of the story.
i felt the same, its like a living nightmare and at first i thought that the only way to "escape" was k""""ing yourself, watch this movie with empathy at 100% its 100 times more terrifying
*therapists when your credit card declines*

It was ok, but it kind of ruined all of the scares in the trailer
@@rowanwojtasinski2050 I didn’t saw the trailer maybe that is why 😂 but I feel like is very well made, like It Follows

Lol it's okay, not a good movie.
This is the first time I’ve been legitimately disturbed by a horror film in a while. This is an amazing film!
ghost just bullying her for real lol
That therapist was more real than Dr.Phil.
The scariest smile in the movie. I can’t sleep anymore thinking of that creepy scene who completely paralyze me
Well all the smiles were creepy but Laura’s was the creepiest
I thought it was the second cheesiest. The patient and then the Therapist. The rest were creepy af.
That closeup at the end with the drool and teeth reminded me of Alien3 when the alien got right in Ripley’s face before it left
This was such a good movie
Demon: Shouldn't you get that?
Rose: Nah I'll leave it they can call back

This film terrified me. Bravo!
What a horror movie..Tension on high level!
The smile 😭
1:20 Kids when they randomly start being weird for no reason
Great horror scenic. Crowd in that theater went wild
I loved this movie so much ❤
Can’t remember the last time my hair stood on end at a horror scene. Decades. This was unnerving
Clearly this entity is cruel given that it posed as someone who has a title like a therapist which promotes people to be vulnerable by letting their guard down and exposing themselves, when in reality the entity itself makes people feel like the opposite of how they would feel in front of a therapist.
Also the voice of the demon sounds like multiple people speaking at the same time.. But in a creepy way
When the therapist started to smile, everyone in the theatre was laughing because she looked like she was doing a goofy ah face bro.
Man this is some intense exposure therapy
Oh, came to have my dose of this scene ❤
R.i.p our mindsets those first 2 weeks fr.. the almost time rose got me trippen like whatever entity it is its basically unstoppable.
I think Joel coming gave it power. It needed a witness before taking her over. Joel appearing as evil was symbolic of it regaining power when Joel stupidly turned up.
Hmm I never thought of that. I was gonna say anytime she was with the entity she was alone but then I remembered the birthday party where it was tons of people and she still didn’t get killed. All the other times became hallucinations.
I think the entity has to get the victim mental weakened & broken before it can enter and then also make sure another person with trauma is alone with the original victim. Since Joel got it passed to him he must have some trauma he never resolved which sucks cause I was hoping they’d make it in the end.
I also wondered why the sister never got affected cause she clearly had issues still but maybe her leaving when she did was her way of healing from the original trauma, even though rose still suffered.
The most horrifying scene ever! Especially when she answered the phone and realized that it was her actual therapist and that this "fake therapist" was the actual demon
I would’ve pretended it was someone else on the phone
😂
Same🤣
Omg same 😂😂😂. Trick the demon.
And then what? You’d still be sat opposite the demon.

This film did a lot of stuff differently.
Every single jump scare is predictable and you know exactly when it’s going to happen. But it still gets me.
No the one with the girl head at the car door wasnt predictable. If it wasnt shown in the previews so much it wouldve been perfect
@@thomasmcintosh2977 Oh yeah for real, they put the best jump scare in the trailers and spoiled it for us
@@thomasmcintosh2977 I watched a CZcamsr video before I watched the movie. So I had that completely spoiled.
But in the context of storytelling, it still caught me off guard !
@@skyesfallenxx that’s the the most common criticism I’ve heard. I guess this film works on me regardless, because the themes are relatable. Abusive history, mental illness and it’s latency.
I never really got “hereditary”
Yeah the one when rose is listening to the record and she that creepy lady shouts rose was the creepiest jump scare in this movie and also a bunch of other ones

This movie taught me to smile more
Run Rose Run!
This movie could have been better. But has its moments
This scene is great but idk why they revealed the therapist was a hallucination in the trailer.
Idk why you watch trailers for horror movies
The only time the therapist smiled at her (before it revealed itself in this scene) was when she appeared at the front door, just before this scene. That was the foreshadowing that it was the creature.
When all the demons literally come out in a therapy session.
Her smile is funny af
This girl is fast!
I don't get the "almost time Rose", why couldn't the demon just kill her and be done with? Why delay the process for days? Brilliant, slightly predictable scene! The fear makes her legs go jelly!
To torment her. It worked out for this demon in the end, but agree, wasting time can result in giving power back to the other party and end up losing.
@@MikeNapoli1989 I later realised the smile demon is actually delaying possession to feed off Rose's own fears and slowly take over her mind in the process to fully take over her very essence!
It needs the victim to be mentally weakened and it needs another person with trauma to witness the death so it can enter them next and have them as their host.
i clicked on this without seeing the title that it was smile thanks for scaring me at 12:57 am LMAO
