Excellent video on this 1975 DT400 of yours!..Yamaha puts out an excellent dirt bike, and has for years. I was given a 1977 DT400 , first year of the Monoshock on the 400 size. Im in the process of restoring it to original..its in the Brick Red color. I'd say it hasn't been started in 20 years, maybe longer. I grew up on Yamaha 2 strokes..they get in your blood, you might say. I had a 75' DT360 and rode it back in the early 80s. Great bike also..They're ALL great bikes.. Very nice mate, Back in 1976 I purchased my second hand bike from a dude, had a choice between a a orange 250 and a yellow 400. The 400 went like shit off a shovel, was a bit too much power for me on the day, still remember it like yesterday. The 250 cost me $650, it served me well.
I had the same year YZ400 ! First mono shock !! In 1983’ old by then ! But Vibrations at 80mph plus ! My hands felt like holdinding two 1/2 to 3” dia handle bars ! Rafter two highsppeed runs !

I rode a friend's '70 or '71 Yamaha "black tank" 360 Enduro once, so I'm well aware of the powerful torque and pulling power your 400 must have! It was so funny to see you coasting downhill with the engine off! You were giving us a preview of the future Yamaha Electric Motorcycles! Does there exist a "low profile" rear knobby tire for your bike? I think a less bulky tire would give off a better contrast and help "balance the beast" that is your 1975 DT400!

Been watching your videos and subscribed today. Those bikes bring back great memories. The front fenders were mounted up high on our bikes in the US. I had a DT100 (have another one now that needs restoration) and a 74' DT 360 before switching to motocross. I rode that 360 to and from high school and had great fun offroad with it.

Hey Micou, really nice bikes you build! I bought myself a dt400 in silver like yours from belgium but im not sure which year 75/76.. because it came without documents. The frame number starts with 513 - 000... Do you know how to select if it is an B or C model? Thanks and keep the good work up man!
Hellomaho. With the 513 frame and engine number, it should be a B model (1975) In 1976, the C model was orange with a wide white line on the sides of the tank. But my 250 DT with engine number 512 was an orange bike, a 1976 C model. I painted it in the 1975 paint scheme. A yamaha code list give me 574 as the 1976 400 DT C frame and engine number…
Your restorations look amazing. I have a 73 at3 I’ve semi restored and I’m looking for a 250 enduro. What’s your go to source for parts after eBay? Thanks!
Hi ! eBay is my main source. CMS.NL, in Holland, have a lot of small usefull parts sometimes hard to find elsewhere. It happens I sometimes found parts by typing the brand name and the parts list reference number of a part in Google.

Hello Dave. Yes, you are correct. I own all the bikes I show in my videos. I often go back to places I know that they are OK for nice pictures. And yes, I feel that only one miror is enough for security (and to be OK with laws) In tight trails in the woods, 2 mirors are a handicap.
@@garbanzo262 Nice one..the DTs are all great fun machines for slow to mid speeds trail work especially that needs big torque..I had 8 of them over the years all sizes wish I kept them all..Trying to get most of them back but at a higher cost now..Long live the 2 strokes.
Salut Olivier. Le son dans la vidéo n'est pas tout à fait le reflet de la vérité . La prise de son de la GoPro est assez irrégulière. Le gros 400 DT fait à peu près le même bruit que la DTMX, mais beaucoup moins que les 360 précédentes .
Hello John. The 250 and 360 are nearly nearly identical . But the milling in the cranck cases is different to fit the bigger cylinder, so you have to swap the whole engine. The 250 is an easy and nice bike, the 360 is very hard to kick start and can even be dangerous for your ankle because of terrible back kicks.
Yes, you can swap but not between different generations. OK with 1968 - 73 DTs ans RTs. In 74, the engines cases where differents. 1975 - 76 OK . 1977 monoshock and on is OK.(to be verified ...)

I had a 1971 Triumph 500 in late 1977’ to mid 78’ ! 3” travel! Such a good road bike !

I had a DT 400 bought new. Then no bike for over 30 yrs. And now a DRZ 400S. I often wonder how they would compare.

We used the bolt holes on the fork sliders to install fork braces.

Hello Blackhat400. The Blacktank400 was the 1976 "C" model, with a large white stripe. A satin black, many years before what is up to date now.

I had a 1975 DT250 I bought brand new. it was 799.00.in the US. I couldn't afford the 400 at 899.00...
I seem to remember paying around $1,200 for my 1976 DT 400. Seems you got a good deal.

Hello this silver grey was used un Europe for the 4OO. The 250 was yellow. In the USA, the 400 was yellow and the 250 was silver grey.

Yep they are good for numbing your butt at 60mph if you ride for longer than an hour on the fwy..Definitely NOT a long distance road tourer.
