Similar to how our beliefs about angels formed, today, the imagery of "hell" is the result of hundreds of years of art, theology, and imagination. The Greeks believed in a punishing afterworld called Tartarus, and Christian artists and writers borrowed heavily from its complex mythological structure.

Is this going to be the new voice overall, or is the classic voice going to return? I mean... I don't hate this guy (in no way is he bad), but the classic voice has a warmth to it that I feel this one lacks.

Read the book of Revelation. Jesus gave the Apostle John a very detailed explanation of Hell.

People commenting about others not good at accepting changes. Well, you see, this is a very unexpected change. The OG narrator is THE REASON why I loved this channel in the first place. While our teachers managed to make history sound boring as hell, he changed all that. I love listening to his narrations because it felt like he was telling me a story.

He will always be the OG narrator for most of us. Obviously, everyone who's asking for the OG narrator in the comments refer to him and him alone.

23 times. Thats all the times hell is mentioned in the entire bible. Its almost the Bible is trying to teach you about something other than what happens to bad people. Its almos as if its about how to be a good person without the fear of punishment.
It doesn't mention hell at all. In greek it uses the word "hades" in hebrew it uses the word "sheol". Both words are literally translated as "the common grave". Jesus used the word "Gehenna" but that was the name of a garbage dump on the outskirts of ancient Jerusalem. The poor or people with no one to bury them were buried there. It was a burial of forgetting. James 1:13 "When under trial, let no one say "I am being tried by God" for with evil things God cannot be tried. Nor does he try anyone"

Any religion that paints God as an abusive parent is not representative of what is said in his word. People should stop basing their beliefs of what they are told by priests and pastors and prove it to themselves through their own diligent study. How can you form any belief of anything you have not read in full.

What hell is to me, is being separated from the love of God. I don’t care where the place is, I don’t care how far down it is, if it means you are separated from the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and our father God in heaven, than that in itself is hell.

Man I hope the old narrator comes back. This guy isn't bad but it is just that the other guy has a more unique voice and it worked so well for this channel. The jokes an type of humor just seems much more natural with him. Same thing with the female narrator on weird history food, for some reason I just really like when the OG dude does it better.
Hopefully, enough people are commenting on their strong preference for the other longer-term narrator that they'll continue with his work. This narrator isn't bad, but you're right - the other guy's voice is so original and so many of us associate him as sort of being Weird History. It's not just that it's jarring to have a different voice, the original is just Much Better!!! I'm hoping he's just on vacation...

Romans 10:9 tells us "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." It does NOT end with "thou might be saved". Any arguments can be taken up with the author.
Really interesting video but I was a little confused at 7:05 about the primordial god Tartarus who sounds like he got the exact same punishment as the Olympian god Tantalus.
When I looked up the primordial god I couldn't find this punishment story anywhere. There are other gods whose names became synonymous with an underworld (e.g., Hades, Erebus, Hel, etc.) but they rule the underworld rather than are punished in it.
Pretty certain you're right! Tantalus could never reach anything. Hence the name for the device in which you could lock away your decanted spirits and keep the key, to stop the servants from nicking any!
For people complaining because this doesn't feature the og narrator, he literally did the last video. And all the ones prior to that. Maybe this channel has to stay on a schedule and he needed a day off. Relax!
Officially, Christianity doesn't assert that the good people go to heaven and the bad people go to hell. It does assert than none are worthy of heaven on their own personal merit but they may go to heaven by accepting Jesus as their savior as a sign of their own recognition that they aren't worthy in and of themselves and, therefore, require grace to justify their lives and make them acceptable for heaven. Sorry for the long sententence.
I was looking for this comment. This video feels so ignorant to Christian theology. It got the ENTIRE premise of Christianity wrong. You don’t go to hell because you were a bad person. We’re all inherently bad people because we’re born sinners. No one is worse than another. The only way to heaven is to accept Jesus as savior. Personally I think this belief system is more fitting towards Islam because they do believe the way to heaven is good deeds… Christian’s don’t believe this. Jesus is the truth

The very first sentence shows a misunderstanding of Christianity. Nowhere does Christianity teach that good people go to Heaven and bad people go to hell.
It's cute when people that have never read the bible pretend otherwise lol. That's literally the carrot and stick of the whole thing. Eternal paradise for those that respond to that or eternal punishment for those that respond better to fear. You don't get to just make it up because you don't like the premise of a video😅

Its about believing on Christ for salvation... thats it... Full stop, easy. You can continue living your sinful life as you will, you still got your Ticket..... If you want to do good works *which is separate from salvation*, this is Discipleship, and while a Great thing, and something Christians should do, it is in no way a condition of Salvation.
EDIT: TL;DR -
Salvation is by Believing on Christ, it has nothing to do with the works you did before, or do after... The Bible says that anyone who works not, but ONLY believes on Christ, will be righteous in God's eyes. The Gospel is not a 12 step program, it's a one time, believe on Christ and you are saved and can never lose that.

A bit of history of the book. Christians are the followers of Jesus of Nazareth, called the Christ by the Greek. When his teachings started to get followers in non-Jewish people, they didn't get the references to the Law, the Prophets, the whole Jewish religious context Jesus talked about. So, the new Christians started to read the Septuagint, a translation to Greek of the collected Jewish writings, and eventually it was added to the new collection of books of Jesus and his followers' teachings, making the Canon of the Old and the New Testament. That's why God appears so different in the two parts of the compilation. Christians are not meant to take both parts as normative.
If you care to read the Gospels, you'll find out that their point is love, forgiveness, brotherhood. Jesus put as examples of goodness a Samaritan (a despised foreigner) and a Roman centurion (a hated invader) as example of faith.
It seems to me that many of you were not taught what Christianity is about. If anything, is too idealistic in proposing that humans can faultless love each other, help each other and work together. The best criticism of Christianity I ever heard was a rabbi saying that if Jesus was indeed the Messiah, then Christians (and Christian countries) should be remarkably better than anyone else. That Jesus should have changed the world. But, isn't that criticism more or less the same than saying that if laws were good there shouldn't be any criminals? We are still counting the years from that guy's birth.
It's still made up. It's literature, not history. Hell and the soul are Greek influences on later rewrites, and almost certainly would have been strange ideas to Jesus. Whether Jesus existed or not is irrelevant, we know there were earlier gospels that no longer exist, we know the current gospels changed a lot over the years, we know that interpretations of those gospels changed over the centuries, and we know that many current interpretations are outright wrong. Jesus of the NT was a hippy cult leader, but that image, though true, would anger and upset modern Christians.

So it is technically a guest list for Heaven lol plus God knows the end from the beginning because He stayed in His word that He will bring us to an EXPECTED END. Anyway, Weird History - please let us know when longtime regular narrator will be back on the job. People who cite Ephesians 2:8-9 always seem to forget about the verse that comes directly after it, verse 2:10: “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
My idea of hell is not being near my creator. Not the pain or spiritual death, but away from my God.

Funny thing is hell isn't a place in the bible .. Eternal "hellfire" means the effects last forever. Otherwise a verse like this one wouldn't make any sense “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” Revelation 20:14
Hell was translated from the original Greek and Hebrew from haides and and sheohl. Both words when translated mean, grave, pit or death. So that verse is saying that death and the grave will be no more. God will essentially destroy both of those things.
And the second death means everlasting destruction, so death and the grave will be destroyed or no more.
Because the New Testament was written in Greek, it says the Angels that sinned in Jude are actually chained in Tartarus. Sounds familiar?

2 Peter 2:4 is speaking of the disobedient angels of Noah's day. It indicates that they were abased by God from their heavenly place and privileges and were delivered over to a condition of deepest mental darkness respecting God’s bright purposes. Darkness also marks their own eventuality, which the Scriptures show is everlasting destruction along with their ruler, Satan. Tartarus denotes the lowest condition of abasement for those rebellious angels.

This kind of stuff used to bother me, until I realized that all this stuff (and that includes organized religions) comes from humans, not God, and humans are far from perfect, make mistakes, misinterpret things, etc. And they also have a nasty habit of trying to turn their own opinions in to fact, and the opinions of other people into fiction. There's truth and falsehood, right and wrong, in everything human.
I think a priest at my church said it pretty well when he stated that everyone has their own interpretation of Hell, and to him, it's a place where God is NOT! To me, that says it all! That should be the sign on the road: "Entering Hell: Where God is NOT!"
