They both came up around the same time in Quebec and Lara was a bit in the Shadow of Céline. Celine has a HUGE presence and even as she was ascending she took up so much room in the media. Kinda like the 1st time one would hear Mariah one could see similarities to Whitney ( I am talking at the very beginning) the same can be said of Lara and Céline but once you really hear them you can tell them apart. IMO the big difference is Céline epic versatility and her agility is legendary. I love and respect them both as singers.

She was born in Belgium, she moved to Italy when she was 1 year old and she lived there until 5 years and then she moved back to Belgium. She always return to Italy for vacations, in the summer. She moved to Canada when she was 18, I think.

I would say they are a tie on mids, with Celine having more power but with Lara having a much more fulfilled breath support and longer sustained. Lara takes Eb5 and up 100%.

For those out there who do not know this : both Lara and Céline sang at the Eurovision contest in 1988. Céline sang for Switzerland and won first place. The year after, Lara came to further her career in the province of Québec where Céline lived. Lara was doing great at the start of her career here in Québec. Both singers have a special place in our hearts. As Lara said, media and journalists made them sound as if they are both rivals and as Lara said : it is not true. They're both fans of one another and respect each other talent.

Both are fantastic belters. Laura I think is more consistently resonant- but when Celine hits that sweet spot, it’s out of this world. The last note in Imagine by Celine, is one of the most piercing resonant notes I have ever heard.

Thanks dude! Hard to compare them as they are two godesses, two divas with two exceptional voices. They are unique, have a flawless technique, they always deliver. I love Lara's story telling, her resonance. Incredibly, they've never sung together so far, Lara sings Céline's songs since she's 12, she likes her a lot and has lots of respect/admiration for her. She made the appearance of great voices possible, she opened the door and allowed great voices like that of Lara to fully express itself. She looks at Céline like an 'older' sister. On a few occasions, Lara said publicly that she would love to sing with Céline, that it would be a dream come true, she even wrote her a letter many years ago to tell her all the good she felt about her, without the media interfering. Even though Céline has never really replied, Lara knows that it reached & moved her. They met very briefly once on a show many years ago, and Lara said that Céline looked at her with lots of benevolence, she held Lara's hand & said to her : " even when you speak it sounds good" . They understand each other, they respect each other much. It looks obvious that from Céline's side (entourage), it's probably not possible now to allow this collaboration between these two incredible artists (for some reasons, specific to show business...), but I want to carry on beleiving that it will happen at some point. ;)

Since they're contemporaries. I think they sound so similar probably because they have the same vocal fach and almost the same background. They both are Full Lyric sopranos and they were born in french speaking countries and it reflects on the way they sing. French language has more closed vowels and you can hear the accent while they sing. Fun fact: They competed against each other in the 1988 Eurovision.

In 1999, when I heard "I Will Love Again", I thought it was Celine and I went looking for it under her name at the record store. I was given Lara's album by the (very knowledgeable) sales clerk and I became an instant fan. I have always thought they sounded similar.... like REALLY similar! I'm so glad to see that others are catching on. It would be a dream if they ever dueted!

I'm not saying that Céline ignored the letter; she is a nice person, so I bet her management never gave her the letter... René Angélil thought the same and that's why he made Tommy Motolla break the record deal with Lara. René was very powerful and he basically did what he wanted. I dunno if anyone else notices, but what we consider is more resonant, is just the clips that have the most distortion 😂 When they belt right into the microphone, projecting right at it, it gives off a distortion effect and we all go “omg that resonance is crazy!!!” I completely agree, they’re both soooo resonant, Lara has a darker tone, and Celine’s is lighter… but both have very clear voices. besides those F#5s in Je suis malade from 2002 to 2005 were all "equipped" with core while one of the best F#5 Céline had, the Divas 1998 ofc, was sung in a headier and coreless mix!
Below Eb5, they are both excellent, but as you said, Lara notes were fuller, celine's notes were more bright crystal clear, Above Eb5, Celine often strains, I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me, but that's just my opinion, I think in that area Celine is out of her comfort zone, growing old, she used heady mix to hit those notes more freely and in a healthy way to not deteriorate her voice, Above Eb5, Lara is more comfortable although she has a tendency sometimes to have a heady mix but even in those cases I am under the impression that her voice is a continuum. What I like to hear, it depends on the performance, and what best convey the emotions of the song

Nothing in this video is strained from celine other than G5. The second F#5 is not support but it isn’t strained. In Celines prime (1989-1993) she supported E5 more often than not.
They are both great, and they sound really good even as they are getting older, but my point was about their comfort zone, also I think that celine as she has been getting older, is using her voice very conservatively, she's thinking long term I suppose, 2 legends

@@Supcharged Thank you. I was talking to the other guy who said that She studied Céline's technique but she studied music when they both were kids. Céline started at 12 but She just become more well known some years after. And Lara is just 3 years younger than Céline.

It's not because she is more famous that she has a better level. The American destroyed the Lara Fabian's career but if you go to Russia, you'll see that she is considered as a godness. According to me, the Lara's technique is the best of the world.

I think the best way to describe it, Lara was classical trained for almost a decade or maybe over than that. Her style of singing will always be very controlled. While Celine is more like a typical pop singer kinda singer where she is like go big or go bust kinda attitude.
Low notes:- both belting :- Both ( Celine little more ) Agility:- Celine Soul :- both ( Lara little more ) Overall:- like it or not they are two of the best vocalists in the history and will always be. but to me if I had to choose between them two, it would be Celine for sure.. she’s my inspiration
Celine Dion does well when she has runs, like at 19:25. Her tone sounds pleasant at 15:54. However, to my ears she often sounds nasal and pinched and strained. All the belting battles that I have seen, Lara Fabian outperforms the others. Her belting is outstanding, but she has so many other good qualities as a singer and performer, that she is just so much more pleasurable to hear and watch.
Because Lara lowers her larynx which makes her timbre darker so her resonance is not efficient when it comes to those belts that are safe for Céline (A4-D5). In this ‘safe’ belting range Céline has her resonance sounds bright and clear while Lara is resonant too but it’s too dark and it felt like, something is stucking in her throat y’know. Plus, she is not as agile as Céline, her lower notes are pretty invisible, you can see it clearly in her Adagio performance, she can’t support a G#3. Moreover Céline’s headvoice is better than Lara’s. Lara’s Bb5(headvoice) are pushed sometimes
Lara is singing and sustaining the notes on one word Celine is singing songs that don't require her singing one note but multiple. Laura is excellent but she is singing songs that don't need agility and multiple mixes. If that was the case Lara is better than the vocal trinity altogether let's face it and do a full versus or Comparison video. Celine, Whitney and mariah for me.

Both are very good , love them both .I grew up with Céline Dion , when she started at summer outdoor festivals 16 years old and some were free !!!She had a natural voice and then I found she oversang , stressed her voice and it wasn't as pure , she was even told by Jean-Jacques Goldman de ''déchanter'' Céline admires other top female singers like Whitney, Streisand Mariah and has or wanted to duet with them , but never Lara ! If there is any jealousy it's for sure from Céline and she knows that in some songs Lara is better In an interview she was asked'' What would you say if someone mistook you for Lara'' answered '' too bad for me'' I guess she felt that Québec was not big eough for both of them .
When I first heard Broken Vow sang by Lara Fabian, I thought she was Celine Dion 'till my sister told me it's Lara Fabian. Their tone is very similar.The only difference is that, Celine has a clearer and well-resonated vocals, and she mostly uses Chesty mixed voice. While Lara has a darker and well-resonated vocals, and she usually uses heady-mixed voice. Still, I prefer Celine Dion's presence and musicality though.

Lara is dark comparing to Celine. Celine in my opinion has stronger , brighter and higher voice than Lara. But lara's consistency breath control is out of this world. I love them both. They should have duet together
Celine Dion is a truly a league of her own her Agility,Fluidity, Precise and consistent on-key ability, excellent Octave Leap and transitions. Although I applaud Lara’s Stamina and resonance but Lara is more comparable to Barbra Streisand. They share the same roundness and heavier tone and sometimes muted vocals.

Celine can go up to G5-A5 with full/chest voice in comparison to Laura that mixes way to early. Celine’s vocals are far more powerful and her tone much more distinctive in my opinion. Not in the same league.
Tbh celine only ever had one balance mixed G5 (the diva live one), the others are either really chesty strained or really heady. Her only chest dominant G#5 was also the one from incognito 1987. Her A5 belts were all later in her career and they were even headier than laras belts.

I have always loved both their voices, and all this who is better obsession is just exhausting. I don't care, especially as this is subjective. I can not blame anyone for loving one more than the other. If you look at my channels, you'll find that I actually have restored videos from this concert in 1999, as well as some more recent footage from Moscow in 2010. I did this because, while Céline definitely received the international recognition she deserves as an amazing vocalist, this was not the case for Lara, thus I restored some old videos to help people come to know her. Whatever you will say will never change the reasons why Lara fans lover her, in the same way that whatever Lara fans could say against Céline could not have any impact on her fanbase. I can't say that I have every belting note that Lara Fabian has sung, but the the notes starting at 16:04 are the impressive belting notes I have heard her sing. Would this be an example of a wailing belt? Lara has more body and fullness to her belts. The tone quality to her belting is what sets her apart from the other belters.

That's not a fair comparison video. They didn't use good Celine clips that have been used in many other videos and they are very easy to find, which makes it obvious that they just wanted to favor Lara.

I honestly think they sound very different. I would like to understand why one has always made me hunch up and wince but the other hits my aural net like velvet. One is like a box of pretty 8 Crayola Crayons and the other is a Deluxe 120 box set. There is something fundamentally different about their timbres that hit my nerve endings in very, very different ways. It's honestly fascinating to me.
Lara's tone and voice is darker and lower than celine but Celine's voice is more piercing and clearer to me. Lara's voice and tone is similar to martina McBride's voice where it's good but it keeps me wanting for more because it doesn't quite me that ump factor

They both came up around the same time in Quebec and Lara was a bit in the Shadow of Céline. Celine has a HUGE presence and even as she was ascending she took up so much room in the media. Kinda like the 1st time one would hear Mariah one could see similarities to Whitney ( I am talking at the very beginning) the same can be said of Lara and Céline but once you really hear them you can tell them apart. IMO the big difference is Céline epic versatility and her agility is legendary. I love and respect them both as singers.

For those out there who do not know this : both Lara and Céline sang at the Eurovision contest in 1988. Céline sang for Switzerland and won first place. The year after, Lara came to further her career in the province of Québec where Céline lived. Lara was doing great at the start of her career here in Québec. Thanks dude! Hard to compare them as they are two godesses, two divas with two exceptional voices. They are unique, have a flawless technique, they always deliver. I love Lara's story telling, her resonance. Incredibly, they've never sung together so far, Lara sings Céline's songs since she's 12, she likes her a lot and has lots of respect/admiration for her. She made the appearance of great voices possible, she opened the door and allowed great voices like that of Lara to fully express itself. She looks at Céline like an 'older' sister. On a few occasions, Lara said publicly that she would love to sing with Céline, that it would be a dream come true, she even wrote her a letter many years ago to tell her all the good she felt about her, without the media interfering. Even though Céline has never really replied, Lara knows that it reached & moved her. They met very briefly once on a show many years ago, and Lara said that Céline looked at her with lots of benevolence, she held Lara's hand & said to her : " even when you speak it sounds good" . They understand each other, they respect each other much. It looks obvious that from Céline's side (entourage), it's probably not possible now to allow this collaboration between these two incredible artists (for some reasons, specific to show business...), but I want to carry on beleiving that it will happen at some point. ;)

Since they're contemporaries. I think they sound so similar probably because they have the same vocal fach and almost the same background. They both are Full Lyric sopranos and they were born in french speaking countries and it reflects on the way they sing. In 1999, when I heard "I Will Love Again", I thought it was Celine and I went looking for it under her name at the record store. I was given Lara's album by the (very knowledgeable) sales clerk and I became an instant fan. I have always thought they sounded similar.... like REALLY similar! I dunno if anyone else notices, but what we consider is more resonant, is just the clips that have the most distortion 😂 When they belt right into the microphone, projecting right at it, it gives off a distortion effect and we all go “omg that resonance is crazy!!!” I completely agree, they’re both soooo resonant, Lara has a darker tone, and Celine’s is lighter… but both have very clear voices. Great video!

Nothing in this video is strained from celine other than G5. The second F#5 is not support but it isn’t strained. In Celines prime (1989-1993) she supported E5 more often than not.

I think the best way to describe it, Lara was classical trained for almost a decade or maybe over than that. Her style of singing will always be very controlled. While Celine is more like a typical pop singer kinda singer where she is like go big or go bust kinda attitude.

Celine lows is def better than Lara.
Celine Dion does well when she has runs, like at 19:25. Her tone sounds pleasant at 15:54. However, to my ears she often sounds nasal and pinched and strained. All the belting battles that I have seen, Lara Fabian outperforms the others. Her belting is outstanding, but she has so many other good qualities as a singer and performer, that she is just so much more pleasurable to hear and watch.
Because Lara lowers her larynx which makes her timbre darker so her resonance is not efficient when it comes to those belts that are safe for Céline (A4-D5). In this ‘safe’ belting range Céline has her resonance sounds bright and clear while Lara is resonant too but it’s too dark and it felt like, something is stucking in her throat y’know. Plus, she is not as agile as Céline, her lower notes are pretty invisible, you can see it clearly in her Adagio performance, she can’t support a G#3. Moreover Céline’s headvoice is better than Lara’s. Lara’s Bb5(headvoice) are pushed sometimes

Lara is singing and sustaining the notes on one word Celine is singing songs that don't require her singing one note but multiple. Laura is excellent but she is singing songs that don't need agility and multiple mixes. Both are very good , love them both .I grew up with Céline Dion , when she started at summer outdoor festivals 16 years old and some were free !!!She had a natural voice and then I found she oversang , stressed her voice and it wasn't as pure , she was even told by Jean-Jacques Goldman de ''déchanter'' Céline admires other top female singers like Whitney, Streisand Mariah and has or wanted to duet with them , but never Lara ! If there is any jealousy it's for sure from Céline and she knows that in some songs Lara is better

When I first heard Broken Vow sang by Lara Fabian, I thought she was Celine Dion 'till my sister told me it's Lara Fabian. Their tone is very similar.The only difference is that, Celine has a clearer and well-resonated vocals, and she mostly uses Chesty mixed voice. While Lara has a darker and well-resonated vocals, and she usually uses heady-mixed voice. Still, I prefer Celine Dion's presence and musicality though.

Celine Dion is a truly a league of her own her Agility,Fluidity, Precise and consistent on-key ability, excellent Octave Leap and transitions. Although I applaud Lara’s Stamina and resonance but Lara is more comparable to Barbra Streisand. They share the same roundness and heavier tone and sometimes muted vocals.

Celine can go up to G5-A5 with full/chest voice in comparison to Laura that mixes way to early. Celine’s vocals are far more powerful and her tone much more distinctive in my opinion. Not in the same league.
Tbh celine only ever had one balance mixed G5 (the diva live one), the others are either really chesty strained or really heady. Her only chest dominant G#5 was also the one from incognito 1987. Her A5 belts were all later in her career and they were even headier than laras belts.

I have always loved both their voices, and all this who is better obsession is just exhausting. I don't care, especially as this is subjective.
I can not blame anyone for loving one more than the other.
If you look at my channels, you'll find that I actually have restored videos from this concert in 1999, as well as some more recent footage from Moscow in 2010.
I did this because, while Céline definitely received the international recognition she deserves as an amazing vocalist, this was not the case for Lara, thus I restored some old videos to help people come to know her.
You people are here trying to dismiss the talent of Lara Fabian for some reason I cannot fathom. You also all forget she's a musician and a songwriter. Anyways, why not simply accept that we are lucky to have witnessed the presence of these two wonderful voices, as well as other incredible ones like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
To stand my point about recognition, go and search for top vocalists on Google and chances are high you'll find Céline right there but not Lara.

At 16:04 notice that the clip changes performances, Lara's dress changes. I can't say that I have every belting note that Lara Fabian has sung, but the the notes starting at 16:04 are the impressive belting notes I have heard her sing. Would this be an example of a wailing belt? Lara has more body and fullness to her belts. The tone quality to her belting is what sets her apart from the other belters.

That's not a fair comparison video. They didn't use good Celine clips that have been used in many other videos and they are very easy to find, which makes it obvious that they just wanted to favor Lara.

I honestly think they sound very different. I would like to understand why one has always made me hunch up and wince but the other hits my aural net like velvet. One is like a box of pretty 8 Crayola Crayons and the other is a Deluxe 120 box set. There is something fundamentally different about their timbres that hit my nerve endings in very, very different ways. It's honestly fascinating to me.
