@@_Rich_. since I made that last reply, I’ve also discovered additional info from listening to her music. She chooses to sing through her throat and it influences her to sound like this. Even if you listen to her early live performances with the Motown Revue, her voice sounds less squeaky but as shout-y as she does here. I’ve come to accept that Martha is a great singer in her own right, but her sound she’s famous for on record is the work of her producers
When I saw this I felt so sad.She is a motown all-time great but her voice has gone completely, like Elton and McCartney. Why doesn't someone tell her? or wouldn't she listen? Who knows? Very very upsetting to watch.
The mix on this recording is a total mess. Her voice is too high in the mix but also has some ugly limiter applied to it so when she's eating the mic it is really prominent. Her vibrato is pretty erratic!
It's all about respect for those in attendance, but she should give it up at this point , diana Ross has said that if she starts sounding bad she'll quit
