I was an Gunnery Officer in a ship with the same kind of gun (5in/54 Mk42). If it had been possible to shoot at the rate of 0.5 rounds per second, not only would the loading gear have exploded due to metal fatigue, but the barrel would've melted before the 20th round.

But you have to admit, an endless shower of shells that resembles a fiery rainbow of death would be epic no matter how you look at it.

This guy parks in open water, while radared, blazing away merrily and no-one shoots at him. He's either incredibly lucky, or the entire opposing team was drunk.
Kiting DD is more difficult & annoying to shoot even in Heavy Cruiser, the opponent think that its better to shoot that precious 30s BB salvo to other target than just a Sherman.
This is a damn fine game to play drunk

Also, seeing a gunbote DD without SI is painful but ggwp to this madlad
SI's priority is really only that high with the russian gunboats that has a heal, which means extra survivability. For ships like sherman and haru, SI basically means one more smoke, which isn't really that much of a good utility when you are running fearless brawler (you'd want to stay spoted) and/or the team has little spotting. It's not like you are a giant neptune that's effectively dead when spotted out of smoke.
@@forge16hanadamaintenancedr43 2 smoke only gives you so little utility, and with Sherman's shit speed plus large profile, you can't open water well either.

i've been curious, is sap better than he against bb's for the shermann? i know it's faster dmg, but wouldn't long term setting fires do more dmg? since the bullet reload is so fast you could switch out of he after you set a fire or 2 no? it's basically an instant switch
You use it interchangeably. SAP is in general a lot better as it’s pretty much guaranteed damage. Although, swapping to HE for the super structures here and there is a good idea. As long as you set that perma fire and swap back to SAP you deal maximum dpm

I wouldve started fires first before using SAP just to get more damage out them guns
On cruisers and battle ships it should be HE to set a fire and switch to SAP if they let it burn. If they use damage control to put the fire out you go right back to HE to get a perma-fire and start spamming SAP again. SAP is great against lightly armored ships but this was not a great example of the ships potential IMO
@@neganwho9747 Definitely the way I would do it. Fire HE until they burn and DCP and then restart fires knowing it will tick. Then swap to SAP. The only time I would use SAP at the beginning would be against DD's.

surprised the cv ignored you all game, fdr has the plane hp to deal with flak. he could have easily done 3 runs in 1 flight just too keep you on your toes.

DD behind BBs…
Forrest Sherman is not a frontline DD. It has horrendous maneuverability and detection range - it's effectively a Friesland with SAP.
Using it to contest caps against other DDs is a death wish.

hold your left mouse button (or fire button) to keep firing, then hold right button to enter free view. Then you can "fire without aiming"

One of the worst ships I've used, it's slow and massive for a DD making it easy to hit.
Only thing it's good for is farming BB.
If they're going to release such ridiculous spammers, they should at least make it more vulnerable with a short range (like they did with Atlanta). This thing and similar newer ships have basically no weakness unless they screw up and get caught at point blank range. Most BB's or cruisers have no chance to kill it at 12km+

Plays way too aggressive and tunnel visions, gets a downvote from me. Only reason he reached that high number is because he actually played pretty poorly, but wasnt punished for it. Mindless farming deserves no praise.
