    I love how reluctant and highly strung older Ferrari 12 cylinders are, both the boxers and the V12s. They're like an angry giant. They do not want to wake, when they have just been woken they stagger around groggy when cold, but when they are alert and warmed up they are just immense. Monsters.

      Typical Ferrari of the days when Enzo himself was still alive. Tiny, light, and pared down to the limit. Basically just a container for an engine, drivetrain, and a couple of humans. Exactly the same formula as the F40 from a generation later. Remember that the F40 was the last road car designed when the 'old man' was still alive. Since then, the name has just become an upmarket Fiat brand...

      @@Trades46 this is the masterpiece of Ferrari classics along with Daytona (rear and front motor) after at that time legally street racing 250 series around 50's ending. New era begin and Testarossa was Pininfarina showcase of two compenetrating bodys answer to Bertone's Lamborghini Countach, one provocative as a stripper the other ideally sculptured as those masterpieces you can see here in Italy by Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Giotto and others. We were still in the period all Ferrari dressed only red Italian racing color and none have Scuderia badge on sides, stable is the meaning of "Scuderia" and also is the name of the racing F1 team Scuderia Ferrari so is false on production cars, 250 series have it cause that production cars can race and win Le Mans or Daytona or Sebring being a Scuderia Ferrari car. These were also gentlemen drivers time, they driven their Ferrari directly from home to track and win! Until last Enzo Ferrari approved F40 before Grande Vecchio (Great Old) died. I suggest you as beauty 12 cylinder the 599 not easy to drive fast beautiful front motor what Enzo considered the right place for an engine, and if you drive nowadays Ferrari naturally understandable onboard a Portofino or Roma.

    These things have electric fuel pumps. Prime the carbs for 20 seconds and it should fire up immediately. Even after months of sitting.That's what I do and what works on my carb Ferrari V8 from the very same era. If it doesn't, it suffers issues.
    Do this on a 365 GTB/4 Daytona and you can replace its weak starter, which is big $$$ and replacement a major PITA.

    Guys there are six double carburetors (so 12) to synchronise manually with empty pumps (debimeter) etc. This is why many owners send it by plane to Maranello to check in factory. That engine revs to 7000 rpm (cause emission issues) not 5000 american v8 I love it, which fit better under a pickup hood indeed a sport car making one a cheetah and other a bull

    • @kb25j
      @kb25j Před 2 lety +1

      @@ssherrierable When the pistons are opposed to each other. For example, in a straight 6, you have 6 cylinders all in a row, connected to the crankshaft; in a V6, half of the cylinders are at an angle compared to the other half, so you have 3 cylinders angled to one side of the engine, the other 3 angled toward the other side (if you Google a picture, you'll see more clearly); in a boxer, the cylinders are flat and completely opposed to each other, so in a boxer 6, you'd have 3 cylinders parallel to the ground, and the other 3 also parallel to the ground on the opposite side of the crankshaft.

    Ferrari motors are like this for that era, it's simply dampness in the ignition and the fuel in the carbs has gone stale or gone off for sitting a while, two remedies for this is to add fresh fuel or clean plugs prior to starting as the plugs end up soaking wet with old fuel, I know this because I have the same problem with my dino, but please go easy on that starter! you don't want to burn those brushes out premature as it's a pain and inconvenient when they do!plugs & fresh fuel sorts it.
