  • I'll be aiming to answer the age old question that goes through a lot of creatives minds 'Can I feasibly quite my full time job for a career in my creative passion'? This could be digital art, photography, videography and many other passions.
    In this video I'll be conducting a very scientific (not) experiment to see if I can outearn my usual salary. I'm giving myself ONE WEEK to EARN AS MUCH MONEY AS I CAN using my skills as an events photographer
    Stay tuned 'til the end to see how much I managed to make in this crazy week and hear my thoughts on becoming a full time photographer!

    That was very insightful! Not going to lie, I was initially a tad jealous that you were able to earn so much but then I saw the shifts that you had to pull for it and the events you had to go to and realised that it would not be for me 😂 Good for you though! I was wondering, however, if the seasons affect the number of gigs you can likely score?

      @JimmyShixin  Před 2 lety +1

      thanks man! trust me the shifts were ruthless haha nkt sure how many more times I can pull it off (you saw me on day 8 lol things were rough)
      seasons massively impact gigs, currently im doing a lot of Oxbridge stuff so it depends on if its term time or not. And even if I branch out so say weddings etc. COVID has shown how fragile the events industry can be so I'd be hesitant putting all my eggs into the events photos basket

      I would like to know how you found those gigs ?

    Which gear did you use for the events? The a6500 and the tamron 17-70? Or did you have to use the sigmas to get that 1.4 aperture? Or... Did you use an external flash

    • @JimmyShixin
      @JimmyShixin  Před 11 měsíci

      yes to all of the above!
      a6500 and tamron for 90% of shots (w/ an old flashlite flash at night)
      for select portraits I used the sigma primes

    Cool stuff! Seems like you have very good connections and you can't buy those and not everyone lives in London. But it was very interesting to see what you did ✌️

    • @JimmyShixin
      @JimmyShixin  Před 2 lety +1

      yea that's true, these events weren't in London but having gone to Cambridge obvs helped - but having said that, wherever you are there's events, and where there's events there's a need for photos ;)

    Great Video!
    Did you use a flash for the nighttime pictures? If so wich model did you use ?

    • @JimmyShixin
      @JimmyShixin  Před rokem

      thanks! yess, an external is honestly so crucial for events photography in my opinion
      model wise it's literally a 10 yr old speedlite for my sister's old Canon camera lol

    Your video would be a lot more insightful if you actually showed the process of how you got those gigs because without it you basically told me. Yeah their is money to be made....if you can find it.

    • @JimmyShixin

      this is a very good point to be fair, shpuldve included this in the vid:
      -I knew the events existed and happened close to each other so they were on my radar (I've also previously attended the events so knew of them)
      -Each event has a dedicated committee that I had to find and apply to
      -made a website so I look more professional
      -found their contact details on their websites / social media / word of mouth and applied about 3 months before the gigs
