Myself, Darren John & The MacMaster took a trip to the east end in search for some traditional pie and mash.
I heard alot about Maureen's and have wanted to pay a visit for a while now.
Wow.... what a great place

If you’re ever up in Skipton, Yorkshire, there’s a great pie and mash shop there too. Don’t think they do liquor though. 🤔xx

Absolutely! Beautiful young lass, and she looks so happy, which is great. And only worked there for a week, she was born for customer service, amazing.
Love Sam's story - working class East End may be hanging on by its fingertips but its there and needs to be acknowledged and celebrated - like great chip shops and great curry houses - very few of us can afford the salt bae nonsense
That's the East end for you. Proper London grub at affordable prices and always a story to tell

Used to have a pie and mash take away every Saturday lunchtime from Nathans at the Boleyn, Upton Park. That was back in the 70s 😂 Glad to see the tradition lives on! Cheers Darren

They need to have these all around the world. Every Costco should have pie and mash kit on sale.
I think this is the #1 Pie and Mash in London. It has a much deeper flavor than the other ones I've tried in the east end. Particularly the pie crust has a buttery, crispy, flakiness to it and the flavors just taste richer. Highly recommend Maureen's.

My kinda place, family tradition and open for years. I am basically a veggie but, would eat a good mince/onion pie. That gravy looks awesome.

I was only at the pet shop next door the other day. I’m from Yorkshire but my nephew lives in Mile End. It’s a lovely area, so much more to see than all those usual tourists spots xxx

Why don’t you ever get the stewed eels . The double pie mash looked the business. I live in Vietnam and unfortunately haven’t had pie and mash for 9 years it’s the only thing I would come back for . I’m wondering how good that salt beef was , another favorite of mine .
If the salt beef is anything like the pie & mash - it will be off the charts
No to gravy and no to knives. The pie mash and liquor looked spot on. Haven't tried Maureen's yet. +1 for having it with tea.

@@DarrenJohn Will definitely pay that one a visit. Everyone swears by Arments, the colour of their liquor puts me off, however I won't knock it till I've tried it.
Love a bit of pie and mash,only ever made it myself.Would never of thought having parsley type sauce with it would work but it does and then some! Missed out adding chilli vinegar so that is next on the to do list. : }

I do love Maureens Pie Mash
Back in the 1980's Maureen had a shop on the
Isle of Wight in Shanklin
It was great.
Use to visit every day when on holiday.
I have also been to Chrisp Street shop
Maureen use to be where the Eastenders shop is before moving to the Island.
Of the 3 pie mash shops
I give Mauree the edge.
There small pies are also great and their salt beef.

I used to live in Poplar . We went back to our roots , went down Chrisp Street Market and had Maureen's pie & mash which was nice. But so upset the way it's changed so much around there. Soon went home again. lol

When I was researching my family tree I traced my g-grandad's eel & pie shop. He was Walter Pyrke, his brother Alfred was a fishmonger & Walter was a baker. I found their shop in Leather Lane on the census. I think it was number 51 or 56 unfortunately it is no longer there. The other side of the family manufactured samovars for tsars. (don't mention the Russians) They had a factory where the ITV building is now somewhere in Tottenham Court Road.

There’s a good one in Romford, Robins Pie and Mash but they’ve recently had to put price up £5 for pie and mash. It’s traditional to eat with spoon and fork.

Those pies look devine, and think I would need to have some of that chilli vinegar that sounds amazing. Mash looked really nice and smooth too. The place also looked nice and friendly which is always a plus point. I am also a sucker for nice artwork which looked amazing. Also Sam was awesome so I would give this a 9.8 xxx

I normally turn the pies over. I always go for a fork and spoon - much easier.
I absolutely drench it in vinegar, open the pie up and drench inside.

I have made liquor at home in a large stock pot. What I use apart from fresh flat leaf parsley and plain flour is some mash for extra thickening and 2 fish stock cubes to replace the eel juice. Tastes bang on.

Pie & mash looked fantastic, I used to get salt beef sandwiches from a kiosk right in the middle of Stamford Hill they were off the chart.
I am an East ender, I had pie and mash once it was vile, potato pealing in the mash, but this place looks very nice, I would like to go there

My dad was born in Plaistow and I was born in Canning Town. I am now in Ontario and would love to be able to get pie, mash and liquor here. Very few chippy's here and getting decent fish and chip anywhere in a restaurant is difficult. The first thing I crave when I am back in the U.K is 2 Holland's steak puddings in a tray with chips, mushy peas and gravy. Soon to be followed in the next few days by Soreen malt bread and a Melton Mowbray meat pie with Colmans mustard.

I go to Maureen’s Lovely Pie and Mash shop, the Unique thing about the Locations is that Crisp Street Market Poplar here in the East End of London is that there are not one but 2 Pie and Mash shops there. 😋
