- A Nigerian King, referred to as an “in-law” by Prince Harry, is reportedly a conman and has been deported from the US twice.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went on a three-day trip to Nigeria last week.
During the visit, Harry and Meghan met with the kings of four different states in Lagos. Harry jokingly referred to them as his “in-laws”, adding: "I'll skip the protocol because at this point we're all family.”
One king, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, who was pictured with the couple, allegedly tried to cash a stolen cheque for £247,000 from aviation company Boeing.
Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan discusses the story with royal commentator Kinsey Schofield.
Kinsey says the comments were “cringeworthy and insincere”. She adds that it is “dangerous” for Harry and Meghan to meet with “shady” people, as the couple have “political influence” in the US.

It was very dangerous allowing these two loose in Nigeria especially Meghan’s speech in Women’s rights which Nigeria has a record of treating their women badly, forcing young girls as young as 8 years old to marry dirty old men and many due in child birth as their little bodies are jut ready for pregnancies. Women get raped and they practice FGM etc so with Meghan banging on about Women’s right the Nigerian authorities could take offence to what she was saying also what Meghan was wearing was totally unsuitable for a Muslim Country where she was wearing strapless dresses and no bra and had to be told to change and cover up. Because if the fake Royal Tour the authorities count here thought the King had the same views as Meghan.
When the King or working Royals go on a Royal Tour they have to liaise with the foreign office then in the background not inky do the staff but the King and working Royals have to research the host Country’s culture traditions and religion, everything is very well planned in advance, speeches the wording has to be diplomatic and carefully worded then scrutinised by people you check there is nothing in the speech which would offend, then particularly as the King does not waste money lines to keep the host down to the host Country and then there is an adviser to confirm what wardrobe they would need.
