You have literally the most soothing voice and kindest face in CZcams. The way you explain things is so calm and patient without ever being patronising. I adore your videos! I wish you had hundred more in your channel. I’m now re watching them all. You are my most favourite CZcamsr and I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you so much for all your advice.
I could not agree more! I love your channel. ❤
I clicked on this thinking I knew a lot of what to do with the freezer, but boy was I wrong! This was super helpful, thanks so much!
lol 🙋♀️ same here1😅
lol 🙋♀️ same here1😅
I liked, subscribed. And now I'm taking notes. Thank you Wendy. ❤ I have three young teenage boys. Life just got easier. Thank you again.😊
Seriously! A real treasure trove of tips and tricks.

I love the idea of "love your future self" by doing things properly now. It's really something to consider in all things you do around the house.
i save all kinds of containers ,but i never thought of using the ketcup bottles in the freezer ty!
My mom uses a ketchup bottle to store her oil. She buys big jugs but its too heavy to lift up and down.
I use a ketchup bottle to keep my denatured alcohol in for my tiny alcohol burner cook stove, it's easy to pour and it doesn't spill everywhere.
I like the idea of the frozen peas in it, that way I can just sprinkle some in my dumplings or soup. You don't have to drag the whole bag out every time.
Be happy everybody, Jesus is coming ✝️🌿🐦❣️
These ideas are especially wonderful for a single person trying to avoid food and packaging waste.. Never thought to reuse bread and tortilla wrappers as you do. Loved the clear, well paced explanations and visuals of your process. Been frugal for many years but learned a lot Thank you!
Absolutely can be extended for all life situations. 🤗💜
Ditto!!
Would you mind sharing how you chop and freeze your garlic and ginger.?
I buy@@thelowcarbchronicles9059 I buy the large bags of organic pre-peeled garlic at Costco, dump them into a small food processor and mince. I read you can add a pinch of salt to the mixture and just a bit of water. Then I freeze in small ice cube trays, once frozen, into a plastic bag. Some of it I slice, put on tray for an hour or two in freezer, then into a bag. Not original ideas - read it from others! LOL
I agree with you !!!
I like the gift bag organizing and using Classico jars. I really need to be more kind to my future self.
💙🙏love being kind to my future self!! Easier on back! (gift bags) !Decrease energy waste- sitting with freezer door open.. Wonderful ideas!
Be nice to future Keane!!!😉🤣
I also freeze everything but did not know about avocados
The ‘tool’ to make that lets you know if something has gone wrong in your freezer is genius! Thank you!! Going to make mine now.
"Just like copying off the smart kid at school...." love it!
🌠high five!
I freakin’ love those Classico jars! I use them to store my teas. They save space and look way better than a cabinet full of tea boxes.
I’m going to use that idea for tea storage. Thanks.
I'm getting some! Lol
They are also canning jars made by the Atlas jar company. The canning mason car lids fit and work great on them.
I have them too store beans and small bags of brown rice.
I'm gonna use that idea.
My great grandmother saved every bread bag, dry cleaning plastic, etc. nothing like ziplocks were purchased. She froze or canned everything. I’m so happy channels like yours are continuing the ideas of good food storage snd how to reduce/reuse those plastics we already have.
This was so amazing! Im the youngest of 4 children-so even though im in my early 50s, i grew up with older parents-so , I got the “depression era” mentality, and this video really spoke to me, thx! My parents are both 93- and i am one of those people who hates to waste food! 😊
Really like the idea of using gift bags for the bottom freezer! I got a new fridge with a bottom freezers and it’s my first time using one like this and it was annoying feeling like I was just tossing things on top of one another. I kept a bunch of gift bags from Christmas so just found a new way to use some of them!
I watch a ton of these types of videos, and I love that you give ideas that I don’t see ANYWHERE else. Thanks for the great content!
Another Wendy! 💜 so glad I can share something new 😃
I have a storage tip that some of you may already know also. I use the large file folder rubber bands that we used to use in the corporate world to wrap my packages. It is a bag of frozen blueberries, you take out what you want and you roll it down into a smaller size in rubber band it. Really safe space and you can see where everything is. And nothing breaks open please. Someone came to my place one time and got something out of the freezer and said oh my God I can see everything and it's great. And I said it came out of necessity. Because I kept screwing up stuff and I never knew what I actually had in the freezer. But I also use the big rubber band trick on everything. It is my official clips on bags way of saving things.
I do most of this already. Thank you for the tips. I save almost everything. My family thinks I am crazy. My Mom did this too. I even save leftovers even if it’s two bites of beans left, it goes in the freezer. I add all to soup. Every little bit you can save, saves you money. Anything you can reuse saves money and helps our 🌎.
Yes I'm frugal too !!!!!
Shredded cheese contains wood pulp to keep it from clumping! I always buy block cheese and use my food processor to shred it. Healthier and less expensive . I also freeze block cheese as is . 😁
I didnt know that . Thanks for sharing .
Me, too. Even better if cheese is on sale. I can shred several blocks in a few minutes.
They put a little corn starch in shredded cheese so it will absorb any moisture and not get mold.
The lazy me one day figured out the food processor hack
I forgot to mention that I spray the bowl, the top/tube, and the blade before adding the cheese. This seems to create less stickiness/gooieness.
The ketchup bottle for freezing peas is genius! Greetings from NYC❤️🗽👍🏼
Your comments and directions were helpful and appreciated - even those about reusing containers, bags, etc. However, in this year of extreme inflation (July 2022 as I write this) your ideas are even more appreciated. Few of us can afford to waste even a single lettuce leaf! I honestly don't know how people are feeding families with 2 or 3 growing kids that eat like miniature horses. I'm just a single person but I bought one of those small 5.5 cf freezers for my garage. Allows me to freeze portions, purchase on sale, etc. I can also rely on contents in the event of forecasted food shortages. Thank you so much!!
Yes, Freeze ALL the things! I have a side-by-side freezer, but I am VERY impressed with your gift bag idea for organization. Just Brilliant!
By the way, peas are good in smoothies. Depending on the other ingredients and how much you use, you may not even taste them at all. Same thing goes for various cooked beans. One of my children does not care for most meats but loves smoothies, so we sneak in some extra nutrients and protein in this manner.
So great to know! Does your child like pesto? Pea pesto is wonderful as well. My son goes through phases of eating less protein/meat too so I try to sneak protein in when I can too!
There is another way of adding proteins in your diet is roast as many variety of lentils as you can about 1/2 a cup each of your choice add to a tray and put in the oven for until they are cooked. Just like that without soaking. Then leave it out when they cool down powder them and keep in an air tight jar for use in curries or soups spoonfuls for thickening plus very nice taste too. Hope you'll like the idea that way children eat them without knowing. They taste delicious I've tried them with children and also in cooking when I'm a volunteer in retreats . Enjoy the tricks.
Past Wendy, present Wendy and future Wendy, you are my hero🦸♀️ Repurposing unused items or future waste is so satisfying. Amazing content! Thank you 🙏🏻
I’ve been wrapping smaller meat portions in plastic wrap, then freezing them in a freezer bag. Some other tips were quite useful and things I’d never thought about before. Thank you. I like your ideas for reusing ketchup bottles and such.
So real!! NOW, THESE ARE REAL TIPS!!! not all those fancy-ass videos, with their fancy-ass buy bins, buy this, buy that, look at my large freezer/House and all the money I have....
I LOVE THIS!!
Duh!, why didn't past wasteful Tina not think of these? I love how you describe things. I have to share this.
I love “ Future Wendy”’s current (intelligent, industrious, creative) Wendy!
Enjoyed this immensely. I sort my bottom freezer with clear plastic containers. I pre-chop while cooking a current meal.. I chop the whole onion and freeze half, same for celery, carrots, peppers, tomatoes, and toss them in a freezer bag. However, never thought of Classico jars in the freezer! Love all your ideas and presentation.👌😊
I've been making cat food for our 5 elderly and infirm cats recently and am reusing old jars to hold 3 day amounts and freezing them. The cats are all looking and feeling much better than when they had a store bought diet! In the bigger jars I make up salads to take to work for lunch, kept cold with a couple of frozen bottles of water (I usually fill them 2/3 full and then add juice or water to the top before I leave the house). You gave great tips for getting even more use out of our freezer, so thanks!
I applaud you. My Labrador lost vision at age 4. I put him on 1 month of homemade soups. His sight fully recovered, but he needed 1 week a month of homemade soup to maintain. He is 12 now and is not blind still. With meat and any g m o free carb, I use carrots and any g m o free vegetables the dogs will eat. Onions and garlic are poison for dogs, do cats have any danger food?.
OMGOODÑESS I am overwhelmed by all your wonderful tips and I thought I had cornered the market on using the freezer to save money! You are my new Hero! Seriously, I am going to watch this again a couple more times to not let anything relevant slip past me. Seeing this makes me wish your videos could be broadcast in schools both for the adventure of recycling and to help children with small amounts of food in their household learn how to manage and stretch it. Often times children can educate their parents. When parents are stressed trying to make ends meet and don't have time to watch videos, children will come to the rescue with a, "Mom or dad, why don't you try this ,,, we saw it on a video at school". Anyway, as I said, a Wish. Thank you so much for sharing your frugal homemaking thoughts with us. Keep up the great work!
I love how you think so much about reusing packages! So important for the environment 👍 This is actually something we do instinctively here in Germany. We consider package more like a resource than thrash. When I went on a holiday in the US, I was really shocked about all the trash that is caused by to-go items. Well done! 👏👏👏
This was seriously a real treasure trove of tips and tricks! And I thought I already knew a lot abt this.
My only critique was that it might be better digested if broken up into 2 or 3 videos. Well done, though. And I love your voice - very calm, soothing and encouraging EG: "Love your future self".
Here's another related tip. Save your grocery receipts (paper or electronic). I had an electrical outage and because I could document my losses, the power company reimbursed me for the $70 loss.
I totally agree with you to avoid waste: I re-use all my bags, and even wash my used Baggies, jars, containers, etc. I learned to be frugal from my Mom. I also use office paper clips and rubber bands to keep
bagged crackers, or food items fresh
wow i was very impressed with this video. She even went into hard data with websites. She isn't just providing her perspective, she gave much more and was smiling too! lol
These hacks are brilliant! I love the idea of using smaller bags in the freezer for organization and I might just store my recycled zipper bags in a paper towel tube from now on--loved that!
Terrific ideas - so glad this popped up in my recommendations. I have always been a big fan of freezing food - especially cooked foods for easy weeknight meals. I think people who aren't experienced freezers will be amazed at how many foods freeze beautifully. One key to freezing food you cook at home is to freeze any leftovers right away after cooling them to at least room temperature.
This video should be referenced in all owner’s manuals for refrigerators and freezers. I’m sharing it with my friends. I learned so much! Thank you Wendy!
So many great tips here. I will use many of them, especially the one where you dice onions and garlic and store in glass jars in freezer.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’ve always wanted to do freezer meal prep but wasn’t sure how to start it where to begin. Loved the video!
So many great tips! My grandma taught me to save cereal liner bags. She used them to separate layers of cookies in tins instead of waxed paper, and on top of jars with a rubber band to hold it in place instead of plastic wrap. Your tips are going to cut down on food waste in my kitchen, thank you!
Dory, my grandfather was born in 1901 - a boy of the great depression years. He taught me many, many things that at the time, I scoffed at. In this year of 2022, I look to the heavens and thank him everyday for his teachings.
I use them too!!!!
Love the idea of reusing plastic bags and then putting them in freezer bags, which can be reused. And the gift bags! Genius!
Great recommendation with looking in the freezer aisle at the grocery store to see what can be frozen. And taking a picture of the reheat instructions! Love it! I also like how you recycle the glass jars. I hate throwing them out so this is a great way to reuse them!
I love this, thank you so much! I will definitely be using these tips. I have one for ginger. I freeze the root whole in a freezer bag and then use a micro plane to shave off what I need from the frozen block.
great tip - thanks!
Me to
Thanks
I do the same but grate it when I want to use it!
Me too, but grated frozen. Sometimes I cuisinart chop a large portion and freeze in thin portions flat in zip lock bags. If thin it is easy to break off the amount I want.
"Love your future self." That's a gem to remember! Thanks!
I have used those free address labels that companies send unsolicited. Dark marker is easily seen over the address. Since the items are used fairly quickly and the tags get thrown out so a different one can be put on, using the address labels saves a lot of money. I even tag things in the refrigerator section so we don't have to open every opaque container to see what is in it.
This was probably the best storage video I have ever seen. I do a lot of similar things as I hate plastic and waste so re use plastic to freeze. You've taught me many more ideas and tips thank you. What an amazing video. X
I’m just learning how underutilized freezers can be lol 😂
Can you imagine storing soup in used chip bags? An elderly Hungarian I was friends with taught me that trick. As soon as the soup cooled down, he’d ladle it into a Doritos bag. I don’t buy enough chips to do that, but Butcher Box (we have a subscription) sends us salmon in thick freezer bag packaging, so that will be good for soup! And yes, tape will be a great way to label…..or maybe dry erase markers?
Love your future self ❤! Oh I love that ! My mother froze everything, I freeze everything too.She cooked for a family of 8 every day.We never ate out.We all grew up healthy ! Love your channel !
Superb freezing tips ! And all in one place ! This lady deserves an AWARD 🥇!!!
Thank you for this. We have become a society that glorifies waste and Pinterest perfection! Growing up we reused everything including bread bags and food bags of all kinds. I don’t remember having a lot of garbage every week. I am trying to be a better steward of the earth by not having too much single use plastic and trying not to waste too much food. Thank you for being a great example of good stewardship.
You are a jewel and so organized speaking clearly and concise and showing what you are doing thank you for sharing your expertise so informative
I loved watching your video it was so informative and easy to listen to and I will do many of the things you showed and suggested. We love freezing local strawberries, other berries and sliced banana pieces and finely sliced pineapple and mango pulp too. A small handful of frozen strawberries blended with a cup of milk is very refreshing and cooling on a hot afternoon when its too hot to eat much. I like how it is frothy and cold and so sweet as fresh strawberries. Yum. Thanks very much for the inspiring video.
God bless this woman! I was raised in a family where my step mom RE-used everything!!! Taught me so much and it’s honestly so helpful and cost friendly.
"Love my future self"
Tears...
What a great video! I save so much money by using my freezer correctly and still learned from your video. Great job!
*These are really good tips since I tend to freeze some leftovers. These are very creative ideas!* 👍
I use those plastic bags that hold dry cereal in the cardboard box. I'll split up family packs of meat and put the meat into these bags. I then seal the bag with my food saver. This also saves on having to buy the food saver bags. I also wash out the plastic bags and reuse them.
thanks for all the tips! i've wasted so much food ..i'm getting a small chest freezer due to a catastrophic illness with mom so i need to work smart
Frugal Minimalist I miss you. Wishing you and your loved ones the best in 2021.
Dear Wendy, thank you sooo much!!! This video is a treasure for me - an excellent guide to freezing and saving food for good!!!
Love your tips. I reuse plastic bags and especially like the ones that have a zip lock like tortilla bags. Love the ketchup bottle idea.
Smart + Frugal = Brilliant.....you are one SMART cookie!
Excellent! Your uber smart ideas blew me away!
Hope to see more videos from you!
Geez, how I have been underusing my freezer! Thank you for new knowledge!
Thank you for this video! You have a nice voice, enjoyable to listen to.
Thanks for all the great tips!! Some of these I knew but some were a REAL 'Aha' moment, but still totally making sense! Great content!
You are soooo inspiring and calming!! I have a small frugal channel (I mean teeny tiny lol) and you keep me going!! Love your videos and can’t wait for your next!! Thank you!!!

@@TheFrugalMinimalist you are so sweet! I humbly thank you! I could listen to you speak and teach all day...seriously! You have such a lovely channel!
Oh my goodness this video was so helpful! I’ve seen so many videos on similar topics, but this is the first one with actually new information! Thank you for making this video! 💛💛💛
Wow! Seriously I am in awe of your organization, frugalness, energy, efficiency and conservation of food. This is way beyond me though. 😅
Great tips!! A bay leaf in your flour/dry goods can also deter pests. I love using my Classico jars.I wish we had those milk containers - comes in bags in Canada.
Wendy you're my hero! I love this video so much! I just talked about those Classico pasta jars too, they're awesome. I'm doing a low spend again and a lot of your tips will be very helpful. Thanks for sharing 😊👍
I freeze so many things so this video is perfect for me! I love the ideas you gave in this video. So many things I have never thought of. I like the idea of copying the way they do it in the grocery store, that makes so much sense! Classico jars are great, as are canning jars! Great idea on slicing the butter before freezing. So many useful tips packed in this video, Wendy!! Thanks! And you are right, the video would have been shorter if you had shown what you can't freeze!😂
Just when I thought I knew a lot about using the freezer, you teach me something new :)
Great tips, as usual! Love the gift bag idea! This will be so helpful to me as I am disabled. TFS 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I do hope it helps Eilieen! Bags and duct tape for the win!! 💜🛍
I was doing some of these things. But this was taken to a whole nother level. This woman is a genius! Wow what helpful tips and tricks :) I followed her today and excited to learn more :)
This was like a Deja vous!
I eventually discovered many of those ideas on my own, but took many years to come to them.
Another thing I do is use corn chip bags.
My favorite snack is corn tortilla chips. The stiff plastic bags they come in are awesome for other uses.
I wipe out the empty bag for immediate reuse, or wash and dry for use at a later time.
I use them as a disposable cutting board liner, and as freezer wrap for raw meats like chicken breasts, fish, and steaks.
I also reuse freezer wrap from the grocery butcher when I buy meat that they put into a plastic bag before wrapping in the freezer wrap.
I like to juice the overabundance of lemons from my mom's tree and freeze the juice in icecube trays then bag the juice cubes to use to make lemon water and lemonade.
It is so good to see an American CZcamsr reusing and reducing waste. I see so many videos from the US where they show driving everywhere and throwing away recyclable or reusable items. In Europe we would never do this, and the planet belongs to everyone.
Thank you so much Wendy. For sure I will be taking the advice. Love how you remind us to love our future self.
Wonderful video...just remember most pink ziploc bags are for storage and blue for freezer.
I love my future self and I love you with your amazing tips! That was a ton of info. Thanks. 😊💖
We love freezing our food and will do it frequently when prepping for the week. Thanks for all your great tips!
You are a sensible saver! Love that you are encouraging us to use stuff we already have and freezing to prevent loss. Thanks for the tips. I am subscribing!!!
Thank you sooo much for making this video! I just purchased my first deep freezer and I am now going to start using your amazing tricks you just showed me💜

I love your videos! You are goals. I don't consider myself a minimalist, but I am trying to be a better steward of the things I use, and these tips are so useful! Thank you!
