BT 05 - How and What to Practice

  • The most important question I faced as a Bansuri Student. It is important to understand this before we invest a lot of time practising long hours in without understanding why and how.

Mind blowing attention to detail. I've never heard a flutist talk about such detailed analysis of gayaki ang. It is always a vague explanation of "mimicking the vocal techniques"...how it's mimicked is never explained. This session is the best explanation of techniques. I'm truly thankful to you bhaiyya. Please keep making more such videos. This is a treasure trove of learning for flutists! I'm going to keep sharing this video with all my friends. People need to see this video. Truly insightful words from a professional flutist. Thank you so much for these videos bhaiyya!

    पेंटिंग बहुत खूबसूरत है।

I've never seen such detailing explained before as a secret being revealed out 🙏🏻
I'm a beginner(on flute) but now on whenever I'll listen to a song/composition I would definitely be noticing volume control and everything (may be not understanding everything but it will be a good start to start noticing ). I love to watch your videos sir 🙏🏻 it gives me immense pleasure and I always learn from you❤️

The detailing mentioned in this video couldn't be described in words. The Best Content for Flautists on CZcams. Please don't say that you're getting distracted from the Topic, because THIS DISTRACTION SHOWS THE MINUTE THINGS NEEDED for any flautist which NO OTHER CZcamsR HAS EVER MENTIONED (May be they don't want to share their knowledge, or I might not have crossed other videos in which this much detailing is done earlier).
THIS DISTRACTION shows that you want to share your Knowledge selflessly. THAT'S THE BEST THING I'VE FOUND IN YOUR VIDEOS. KEEP DOING GOOD WORK.
Thank you so much sir again.

    Personally मैंने ये महसूस किया है कि जितनी आपको संगीत की समझ आत्मा से होती जाती है उतने ही ऊंचे कलाकार आपके सम्पर्क में कही ना कही से आकर संगीत से मिल ही जाते हैं.. जैसे कि sir आप.. मिले youtube ke through..
Thanku Sir For giving us your valuable time.

I can't express enough gratitude to you for this video. Practice is important. But understanding the intent behind techniques of practice is equally important. You've opened my eyes to a whole new world of expressive detail. Volume control in the minutia of phrases! I'd never concentrated on it before. Now that I recall all the beautiful musical pieces, I can see that they've used volume control and intonation and weighting on those phrases. Makes me realise that I have to listen to phrases thousands of times before I even attempt it!

The title of the video is misleading. I've watched the previous videos which were on point. I was expecting to see tips on how I could learn to play the flute with ease and swiftness. But instead the video details about the nuances of beautifying the notes.
Don't get me wrong, you speak with passion and care and a lot of details. So please don't stop.
I'd humbly request you to post tutorials on how to practice and what to practice, precisely. Thank you.

Thank you for the comment :) The point is that one cannot learn not just the flute but any instrument ‘with ease and swiftness’. That is a myth. It is very interesting how people generally ask “in how many DAYS will I learn to play”. It takes time.
I have tried to explain “how” to analyse a phrase, if given by the teacher, or just any phrase - and “what” to do to go about getting as close to that phrase as possible. I have also explained how to figure out our weaknesses and iron them out by picking phrases or musical movements, with examples. Hence the title. My apologies if it mislead you. :)
