- Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, enjoys the third in the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare Series. This time, the leading ‘ghost’ malt is Glenury Royal, joined by Pittyvaich and the grain whisky Cambus, while the ‘rare’ are Inchgower, Glenlossie, Glen Elgin, Glenkinchie and the grain Cameronbridge. The result is decadently delicious, Mark says.
Outstanding review Mark. Jim only changed 2 of the rare distilleries on his 3rd release of ghost and rare.

Saw this one in the shop when I went to go pick up the Song of Ice and Fire bottles from Johnnie walker (I'm a big fan of the books and the bottles look impressive on my mantlepiece), $500 Australian dollars over here for this one! No one can seem to fault it though despite the high price.

I found a bottle for $400 in Boston, and wanted to see how it compares to the ghost and rare first.

Great review as always. I have the first two so I’ll be looking for this. What’s your order of preference with these rare releases now?
The Brora release comes first, then the Glenury Royal and then the Port Ellen, but they are all very close and all of them are top notch.
Just got my bottles tonight so this might be premature. Brora, Glenury, Port Ellen. I think Port Ellen is clearly behind the other two. Thanks Mark!!

I have no idea. I live in Belgium and here the bottle can no longer be found. I do sometimes see it in auctions, though, where it sells for 750 to 1000 euros.

How this compare the the Blue Port Ellen version?
This one is slightly more fruity and therefor I prefer this one.

Mark, which one is the top of the line for blue label. Is it the Legendary Eight or Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal, or the Ghost and Rare Brora
All are amazing (also the G&R Port Ellen), but the Legendary Eight is my personal favorite, followed by the Glenury Royal, then the Brora, then the PE. But that is personal of course.

Mark Dermul low ABV and frankly the price is a big turnoff. i didn’t mind paying that for the other two but this one should have been priced more aggressively.
