    Would love to give this a go. Im sure it would ruin all other JW's for me, just like how Casks Edition Blue made standard Blue undrinkable lol, cheers boys.

      Ya these special editions are perhaps a bit over priced but there is def a step up in quality. Cheers bud!

    I still see some sites selling it for 300 to 400 dollars. Maybe they’re not legit imo. Fortunately I managed to buy a few of them for 250 each when it first came out. Thanks for great reviews ❤

      Sounds like you bulk buy a lot lol. Its prob not the Brora bottling for 300-400

    Great review as always. It would be great to see a review of the legendary eight if you have a bottle. Cheers.

    Thanks guys! Ya, a lot of hype for anything Brora. I could see the secondary prices going even further up for any of these special editions that contain even a small portion of Brora juice.

      For sure. Worth retail but not much more.

    Nice review guys, so happy you’re back again and impressed with last 3 reviews. I had a chance to grab one of these for 250$ when was shopping at K&L Redwood City but since standard Blue Label never impressed me I passed on it. Hope JW bring more of these quality releases.

    • @maltreviews

      The special releases with higher abv are def a step up in quality

    Hi guys! Ya I really like this one a lot too. This is the value a great blend brings to the table. I bought a couple more at original retail after I opened the first one. BTW the new Brora opened a couple of weeks ago. Same property as Clynelish. Can’t wait to go back.

    Great review! It was selling for $550cnd at retail in Canada when it came out. I passed, but at $250us that's a good deal.

    I got this bottle at $300 and it's definitely a step up from the regular Blue. I agree with the 88-89 score. You should try the Johnnie Walker Centenary Blend 18 yr. I got the first bottling of it at auction for 40 pounds and its very good. Great review.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  Před 3 lety +1

      $300 seems fair when considering the collectable aspect of having this bottle. Cheers!

    I have this one open and I was (and still am) a little underwhelmed by it. I don’t reach for it very often and I won’t be replacing it. It’s a stretch at $250 for me, and certainly not worth secondary. I find it just a little simple (dumbed down) - as with many of the JW line - but I guess if you love JW Blue, you’ll like this one too. Great review though - agree with your preference of double black over blue (including this one).

    Nice review. Have you guys tried Valinch and mallet bruichladdich 15 Madiera? Its totally insane and unique. Crazy farm notes almost manure level craziness. Durian fruit, industrial waste, metallic. The most unique spirit I’ve ever tried.

    great review guys, my thoughts on this echo yours. This one is the best of the three, but the new legendary 8 is a little better than this to me(its a brora blend as well)

    • @maltreviews

    Have you guys tried any Glenury Royal? Together with Glenugie and Brora it is one of my favourites from the lost distilleries. I suspect you can not get many such bottlings other than the Diageo special releases.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  Před 3 lety

      That is correct, not easy to get which in a way makes it that much more special when drinking such whiskies.

    Damn that sounds nice! Last time I saw one of the ghost and rare bottles it was...$450? For the port Ellen edition. Too steep for me, but I’ve heard good things about these bottles. Cheers!

      ok after watching. Surprised you know what the regular blue tastes like given.....it's basically forgettable. But wow 88-89, that's insane. That's a 400-500 dollar bottle for you guys, all day.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  Před 3 lety

      @@topshelfdustin3060 Haha , I passed on this for $180 as well. I assumed it was a gimmick. Its def better than the blue as I am not a fan of the regular blue.

    Honestly, i like Johnnie Walker (for the casual dram), but also see JW as this blended scotch Frankenstein - aspiring to, but not quite achieving a cohesive whole (like a good, solid single malt)...you guys mentioned Double Black (haven't had) but i swear by the older (not the new stuff w/ different font) bottles of 12 yr old BL which, for the $, is close enough qualitatively to the underpowered & overpriced Blue Label to embarrass it...this, however, is a quite different Blue with serious complexity, depth & a much better delivery system @ 46 %...best JW blend ever? Maybe, and if you don't want to spend a G on a high-end 25 yr old, & want that more synced "Young Frankenstein" Frankie dance this will definitely do that...nice review....
