I think it’s just his pretty well versed opinion of his work. Schnabel’s rise came along with that late 80’s stock market boom and that’s who was collecting him and David Salle, driving up the prices and seemed to inform their work. (The Bonfire of the Vanities era). He knew what he was talking about. He spent many years with the well known artist Jutta Koether and had roles in the Whitney Biennial himself.
I listened to this yesterday then woke up to the news of his death today. Bye, Tom, and thanks for one of the greatest bands ever.
