I was musing to myself yesterday on this very matter.
However, I was thinking about Southgate hiring backroom staff primarily based on their 'contribution to a diverse workplace' shall we say.
Then I thought "why doesn't he just go off and manage Crystal Palace, because at least in terms of players his mission would already be complete.

Agreed. Hiring him was akin to Celtic going for John Barnes, or Blackburn with Paul Ince. A 'virtuous' hire. Which is a shame, because there should be no difference, as long as you've done your badges and possibly paid your dues. Could say the same about Lampard and Rooney, of course, who were also illogical hires.

It’s not mad. What would be mad is any premier league club considering, and I’d add any top half championship team.
He was a terrible club manager, and whilst he’s brought constancy and harmony to the England camp, with the talent he’s had to pick from, you’d have to say he’s underachieved!
Gareth is a good man, a good presence, and he should be given a roll in the FA, I think he can still have a positive influence on football, but not as a manager.
What would change if Southgate went to Palace, nothing, he would have the same average squad, with their best player at the club injured. I doubt anyone can save them.

Getting Southgate would just rub salt into the wound. Just what has he achieved with the best players the counts to offer, other than imposing his woke agenda on us all? An absolute waste of space IMHO
Southgate would probably do well at Chelsea in all honesty. Especially with the young crop of players they've got. In addition to his familiarity with at least 7 of their squad, with England. Those 7 would lend towards a greater atmosphere of trust amongst the team. Furthermore, he is the perfect coach for helping players deal with their mistakes, considering how he is most well known for missing a crucial penalty in the Euro '96 Semi-final - he would have a great amount of empathy for them should they fail. People like to bring up his tenure at Middlesbrough, that was 15 years ago, the man has grown and evolved as a manager and might do well at club level after having been England's second most successful manager. Just a thought, although I'm sure Chelsea fans would probably disagree.
Can see a club like West Ham or Chelsea going in for him.
