LumaFusion on Android! Why I'm Dropping PowerDirector...

  • TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy LumaFusion is the real deal. I've been cutting video on phones for years now. My favorite app on Android has been PowerDirector, but recent changes to PD's subscription and account verification have soured that experience. This isn't a weak sauce comparison where I just read a list of plugins and show the UI. I'm legit dropping PD from my app drawer. This is an airing of grievances! LumaFusion comes at the EXACT right time. I can no longer recommend PowerDirector or Kinemaster anymore...

LumaFusion is proof that it's not so much about the OS the app is running on (as often is claimed by some) but the talent of the developer that makes the difference.

Maybe Google should do a fancy commercial showcasing what LumaFusion can do on an Android device and have the "Shot on a Pixel phone" to show all of these iFruit sheeps that their precious walled garden has been rotting away for years.
It speaks on how good LumaFusion is when on a beta version, it already surpasses the competition in almost every aspect AND it's cheaper than the competition, even at full price.

Great comparison. I tried PD some years ago briefly but did not like it. Glad that Lumafusion is finally on android as I have used it on my ipad for years. I was hoping I could install it on my Xperia XZ premium but it's not available for android OS 9. No problem with my Xperia 5.
Filmic Pro is going the way of the subscription model and charging a lot for it. I hope it's not a trend that Lumafusion will follow.

I too, purchased Power Director a few years ago. I downloaded it to my tablet and was surprised that it "forgot" my purchase and that it was asking for a subscription instead. That's not a nice experience. I've steered clear of that company moving forward.
Looking at the comparison here, it's obvious that Power Director rested on its laurels and let someone else take the lead. It's going to be hard for them to come back from this. Their monopoly pricing is not going to be sustainable moving forward.

Great piece of work. In a segment where the prevailing NLE licensing model is the subscription, not the one-time purchase, Luma is an absolute steal. Let's face it - even if it were not the best app out there feature wise, we would still go for it, at $30. But it so happens that it also IS the best one from a technical viewpoint. The rare areas you mention where Luma might still be lagging behind somewhat will, in my opinion, be fixed promptly, as the app is moving in leaps and bounds. Without forgetting the massive effort made by the developers to make it available to the Android / Chromebook crowd, in addition to iOS. I have read that the team behind Luma is comprised of former Pinnacle Studio developers, that says it all. Thank you, LumaTouch, thank you so much.

Important, key subject, well done ! I had my reasons to de disappointed in PD (& actually Kinemaster & some other apps) when I wanted to try vid ed on Android, & just couldn't take all the features, precision etc, cutout. The watermark thing indeed is typical of that kind of firm, which peeves me on a + subjective level 😆 .
Luma F on Android is the greatest news so far on the field, while I'm still eager as well, for a Davinci Resolve version, aligning the iOS tablet/iPad version.
Alongside, I agree with ppl saying Android lacks proper Audio editing / managing apps, that could for instance, take advantage of audio interfaces in such way we could use it on anything such as phone calls (I've been looking for ways to use XLR mic for phone calls, very tricky, the closest was the Samsung Dex kind of softw, but alas its audio features are limited to output, the input remains your phone instead of USB extrnl audio...).

I’m one of the weird people who was trying to use his android phone as a desktop pc. 😃 I was trying to play my keyboard live using midi and also video record myself with it. Latency was a big issue when I was using android. It’s one of the major reasons I switched to iOS a couple of years ago. Android io doesn’t seem to be there. Samsung had pro audio but dropped that I believe. I was using ik multimedia piano apps with my midi controller. The app broke with an android update and samsung and ik said it was the other. That was the early move away from android including the lack of music apps. I didn’t want to invest in the video apps either because I was trying to record myself playing bass guitar and monitor with same latency issues. After moving to iOS most of those issues are gone. Multitasking now is the only issue as I can’t multitask like on my Samsung device.

I bought power director to use on a windows tablet for on the go editing and it came with a qr code for the power director mobile app for free only with 1080p exports. But everytime I export it wants me to pay. I have to uninstall scan the qr code to reinstall the app to export without issue. I bought , lumafusion to use on my lg v60 and my android tablet and so far I like it. I don't think I will ever use power director mobile ever again unless they have a pay once version.

I was always very impressed with PD Mobile but low key felt there was a lot of missing features especial for a subscription based app. The improvements monthly/yearly are too often not feature and usability based....just more free content(graphics, stickers, sound fx, etc). But it was the best choice out there especially if you subscribed to the desktop app which i love. Now I'm thinking about jumping to LF when it comes out of beta and cancelling PD mobile

Why do none of these apps show how to 1) mark a beginning point of a segment you want to delete, 2) mark the end point, and then (rocket-science complexity warning) 3) tell the stupid app to delete that segment. Baffling as to why this most common or all editing actions, has zero clarity in either the user interface or the documentation.

Why don't they just one time purchase model for the whole base app and make people buy for a new addition feature. Because sometime that are just new feature that you don't need, so you don't have to pay for them. Subscribtion makes it feel you don't own the app itself.. really ugly bussiness model
