    John, I bought and installed a similar unit after you initial videos.
    I had previously bought a replacement rear view mirror that has a built in half screen. Had it installed a few years back and worked well enough in parking garages.
    The camera from that unit is still installed and working so I put my new camera right next to it in same area you selected under boot lid.
    The new unit is better with the roof down for sure.
    Keep up the great work!!
    Chris

    Another job well thought out and executed John. I've been happy with my phone holder to be honest but reversing my 98 convertible has always been an issue. I have gone an alternative route for reversing and have fitted an electromagnetic system from Prolex. The system uses a metallic strip behind the bumper so no drilling. The control box is tucked away on the frame that supports the roof pump and the sounder behind the driver's side speaker panel. It has already saved me from reversing into a nicely placed pole, so payback has already happened.

    Very well done John, I don't need this rear view camera because I have acoustic warnings. However, I would probably install a camera for the front. Unfortunately, I don't know which I'll take it. The installation of the Carpuride w 103 in my dashboard was a great success. It looks like it was originally delivered by Jaguar. Ha ha, greetings 😅 Udo.

    I set my camera a bit higher so I can see any oncoming traffic. The fun part now is running the wire under the center console, under the back seat, up around to the side where there’s a pass-through just below where the canvas meets the body. Easier to see from the rear seat area with a bright light shinning into the top back of the trunk. Poke a 3 for long rod through, then tape & snake your wires. You’ll have an extra 10 or 12 feet of wire that can be coiled under the rear seat.

      Top tip Tom. I will follow it👍

      @@ToTheGarage It took me many hours to complete the camera installation. A lot of interior to remove and just fiddly. Then the short section between the boot lid and the body, I drilled a hole in the rubber grommets. I then taped the wires (weeks later) to the piece that the existing loom runs through. (Prior to taping I just zip tied, but that let the wires bend dramatically producing noticeable wear rather quickly. Fortunately I spotted it before the insulation wore through.) I also added flex tubing around the new and existing wires. I’ve been meaning to return to that part of the installation and see if I can run the wires through the casing the loom runs through. Ideally it would look OEM.
      Good luck. I look forward to your completion video. It’s always fun to see how others overcome obstacles that I have gone through. I always learn a better way in some aspect of the project. And I’m eager to see how you run that section I just described above.

    My 2 cents on camera viewing field: having the rear bumper as a reference works best for me. Tiny poles, pets, toddlers and whatever godforbids will creep just behind the car and be literally overlooked. The bigger distance can be viewed in the rear mirrors

      Good point Kees. I think when its all finished i will indeed adjust to include the rear bumper.🤔

    I mounted mine centrally and it works great. I have to lift the boot lid slightly to the side but that's no bother

    I'm very interested to see how this camera set-up behaves in the coming months. My biggest concern being reliability, which seems to affect every system I have considered purchasing.
    Perhaps you could feedback, as we go through the next 6 months, (where water ingress into the camera might become an issue).👍🙂

    Excellent video. Thanks John. Look forward to fitting mine. Any news on the bracket angles?

    • @ToTheGarage
      @ToTheGarage  Před 24 dny

      70 degrees internal angle on top leg Alan and the lower leg is parallel to top and VERY slightly curved down as it goes into vents

      @t.alanblain6313 Před 24 dny

      @@ToTheGarage I did a screen print and then measured the angle, I got 68° so I wasn't that far out, however it's great to have it confirmed.
      Thanks John

    Enjoyed the camera installation but on a different note I can’t find anything that shows best way to clean head liner on a convertible.
    Have you ever tried or heard of a good way. I have a 2002 xkr
    Hope you can help
