I loved this video. Great voice, right to the point and you go slow enough for me to grasp concepts.
I'm exploring pottery for the first time and this video is one of the few that got straight into it and patiently explained things step by step, without going into unnecessary details like type of clay etc. I have signed up for my first pottery class thanks to you. Thank you!!

Hi there, this looks like an amazing tutorial 😍 I am definitely going to make my first mug, very soon. Where can I find the template of the Mug?

Thank you for sharing this video,I really like it, can you please share how to make the clay you used in this mug?
I bought "low fire" earthenware clay from an art supply store.
Okay you know that there is a way of making a slab coffee cup I can make them in under 3 minutes and they work people by much doing my last one I sold for 20 bucks and your way is very very nice actually kind of awesome I like it it's very precise
Is this kind of low fire earthware clay naturally grey? Or, do they add colorant to regular naturally brown clay?
Tip of advise: before beginning to work with ceramics find out where you can bring your pieces to cook! You need a knilt

Where did you get your template for the mug?
Hello and thank you. I'm very interested to know how you make your templates? I can'tseem to get them shaped properly
I used a paper cup cut it down the side and flattened it out to create the shape I used for the template in this video!
@@HowersArtClass Thank you. That's great start for me. Any other tips?
@@lisamcc1275 watch a bunch of videos and surf the web! There are so many techniques for pottery and each person has their own way of doing things. It might work for you and it might not! Don’t be afraid to make and don’t be afraid to fail!
Was there a link to the template? Thanks, Cathy
What is the size of the template you’re using?
How thick are you rolling your slabs?
They are about 1/4 of an inch!
❤❤❤🖐

White earthenware clay from Amaco
I build a cup in my art cllass too with ms diaz i'm 5th grade are you a art teacher too
You mention a Mug Template. Where can viewers download your mug template?
Thanks for your comment! I made my template by taking an old paper cup that I cut and laid flat onto paper to create the curved template! Hope this helps!
Does this clay not enter the oven.. and where do I get it?
This clay does need to be put into an oven (kiln) but there are many air-dry clay options that are available online! I don’t know if it would be safe to drink or eat off of though. Normally you need clay that has been fired in a kiln to be dinnerware safe
@@HowersArtClass Thank you, thank you, dear
what kind of clay do you use? :)
I use white low fire clay that I get from Highwater clays in NC
What kind of clay are you using I'm new at this
I’m using white earthenware clay from “Highwater Clays” in NC
Thank you
Hi can you please list down all the materials you used for this 😊

Wooden clay tools
Round sponge
Canvas mat
Water
Slip- watered down clay
Where does one buy pottery templates?
I know they sell some on pottery supply websites. But I made mine by cutting a paper cup and laying it flat on a piece of card stock and cut it out!
@@HowersArtClass Wonderful idea! Thank you
do you have a printable PDF for the mug template?
I cut a paper cup and laid it flat to get the shape that I needed! I could make a video of how I made it if that would be helpful!
@@HowersArtClass I'd love to see that, I'm hoping to get my first kiln this year
Measurements for template?
I took a large paper cup and cut it down the side so it would lay flat. That’s how I created mine
What are the dimensions of the template?
I cut a paper cup and laid it flat on a piece of paper in order to make the template. You can use any paper cup. That way you can choose the size of the final mug

“Low fire white earthenware clay”
Very nice video, but I’m wondering why you didn’t bevel your sides? That’s a fairly basic technique that not only makes the connection more secure but aesthetically pleasing. Even with the wiping and removing of clay that you did the connection looks less than ideal.
Thanks for your feedback! Yes beveling is something I try to do with my more advanced students. I made this video originally for my 6th grade middle school students where I simplified most of the process down to its bare bones. I generally show beveling in person in class. Thanks so much 😊
